  There are some settings in the music player to limit use of data. Activate/download song data, another is toggle streaming, and the third is to postpone the song downloads until wifi is available.

  As the other poster said, there are some applications that can disable the use of the data. We're quick settings, another is APNDroid. Both are free (I use quick settings, seems to work ok). The applciation Tasker (not free and paid) can disable data when an application is launched.

  I use the phone with a 30 MB data plan, which means that I don't use that data when there is a wifi connection available. It works just fine.

  If I understand correctly, you can not go beyond the initial start-up of advertising screen Apple music. If there is not a link that says go to My Music under the pink button to join Apple music I would start by exit music:

  Force an app to close the iOS

  I just had time to check this. I could listen to music from my watch to my bluetooth speaker, then put the timer as well. I was also able to switch back without the reset timer or stop. I could also stop the clock and continue where I stopped it.
