Strange beep on my Satellite M70

Hello
While working on my Toshiba Satellite M70 - 159, from time to time, I hear a beep (about 0.5 sec.) There is no announcement on the screen and the computer works normally. It has no meaning if it works on the adapter or batteries. It happens once or twice a day, usually after a few hours of work. I have read, it could be linked to the temperature of the processor, but how do I check it? Someone has an idea what could be the reason for this beep and what do I do with it?
Best regards,
Piotr

Hello

In my opinion, all the software of measurement of temperature are not precise.
You should consult the Web site or contact the support of this tool, because they know how it works. In my opinion if you don t use temperature sensors you can not get an exactly the temperature of ie. CPU or HARD drive.

Good bye

    Hey!

I have the Satellite A210-f16 (PSAELE).
I installed Windows XP on Vista Home edition and I got a few strange beeps of the successive PC.
I thought it was because that bad drivers (because Toshiba has not done mount pilots btw).
So I installed Vista back with the recovery disc (I have adobe flash player btw problem - I ve removed all software from Toshiba).

Now I get the same problem... There is a strange beeps from time to time...

Does anyone has the same problem (s)?

BTW: when Toshiba will put the official drivers of Windows XP Home edition on the site? Does anyone know?

  • How to adjust physical memory in Satellite M70-337?

    Hello

    I'm buying a memory upgrade for my Satellite M70 - 337.

However, I'm not sure how to adapt really.
I unscrewed the memory Panel and watched it not really knowing what to do.

All the tips, links to diagrams would also be very useful.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello

First before you install or remove a module, turn off the computer with the closure of the option in windows. The laptop should t be in standby or hibernation, because you will lose data.
Some modules of memory can be physically installed but are not entirely compatible with the laptop. In this case the machine will issue a warning as 3 short beeps.

    Here's a short instruction end how the modules;
-Turn the laptop (don t forget to unplug all cables) and remove the battery.
-Remove the two screws holding the plug cover memory modules
-Slide your fingernail or a thin object under the lid and remove it
-Mount the fittings of modules in connectors from computer to a 45 degree angle, and press the modules taken care to ensure a good contact.
-Push the module down so it lies flat. Locks on each side will be lick into place to fix the modules.

But note; to do this, carefully and don't use any force!

  • Satellite M70 - area more clearly as for the screen and guaranteed

    Hello

My laptop is a M70 and the problem of the screen: there is a fairly large space more "clear" on this subject, which sometimes moves a little or that becomes clear/more darker. The problem appeared a long time ago but continues to evolve and now affects seriously the readability of some documents, and a few other spots seem to appear slowly.
In fact, it seems that these zone can be observed with normal colors, when I change my point of view...
Is such a familiar of her problem to someone?

In addition, because of the breakdown of my power adapter, I recently bought a new, but not a good Toshiba. If I have my laptop with it to the technical service (which is requested in the warranty Handbook), can it be a reason for a refusal of warranty?

    Hello

Well, your description of the problem of the sounds strange, but of course, it could be a screen issue.
What about warranty? Is it valid?
The warranty only covers hardware problems and malfunctions.
For me, it doesn't sound like a software problem, and so the warranty should cover the audit of the laptop, repair or replacement of display.

I read about a strange color on a Satellite A100 series problems. Some pixels were light and dark a few pixels.
The BIOS update has solved this problem.

But you know, this does not mean that the Bios Update will help you.

  • Satellite M70-151 - not possible to install new HDD

    Hello

I have a problem with my Satellite M70-151. bunch of old hard drive (100 GB Hitachi) reached the Windows XP screen then just ends with a blue screen a turn off laptop, immediately. I had to restore my data with an application file-rescue of another PC. It was not possible to start from old hard drive yet.

Then I bought a Western Digital SATA II 250 GB hard drive that put my Windows XP CD in DVD player installed and tried to start. The laptop turns off as soon as the laptop computer tried to access the HARD disk.
Thought, it was question of SATA II disk and tried a Samsung 160 GB Sata I - same result.

    BIOS recognizes the correct drives.

If I try to boot from old hard drive, it shows the issue I mentioned first, but as before it reaches the Windows XP Boot screen before moving on to the blue screen before turning off the laptop. So start goes further than the boot with new hard drives

The Windows XP CD I used is not the restore CD that came with the laptop, but a normal license.

The heat is not a problem, I cleaned the CPU fan there is enough space to breathe the cold air mobile, the temperature is ok.

    * My questions are: *.

Is there any special application running on laptops satellite, like special software of Toshiba, perhaps Backup, should I be aware of?
What I need to preformat the hard drive, Toshiba-Hardware will recognize the hard drive?

It would be great to get help on this issue, because I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance!

    André

    Hello Andrew

This behavior is very strange. I have some old Satellite M70-159 with 100 GB HARD drive. I also tested how it will work with a 250 GB HARD drive and all is well.
On two drives, I have installed WXP using the Toshiba recovery image.

I answer your two questions No. to install Windows XP Home edition on this model of laptop you don't need some special Toshiba application or a piece of software.
HDD should be recognized correctly by the BIOS and the Windows XP Home edition installation procedure should work well.
What you can try is to set the BIOS to the default settings and try again.

The strange thing for me is that judgment. The blue screen tells me that there may be some serious hardware problem, the HARD drive controller might be. It's really not easy to say with certainty what can be the problem.

  • Satellite M70-239 - problems with brightness adjustment

    Hello

I ve got this laptop from my father after I buyed a new. Actually everything´s with him very well. But one thing is a little strange, I think.
My old laptop and other portable that I had before, has the ability to control things like the brightness of the screen when you connect to load automatically. So not for this one. Nothing happens.

Windows doesn´t also shows the remaining battery life expectancy and other things like that. These functions are not supported by this guy? I ve installed the latest bios version 1.70, which is available on the official website and I m using Windows XP.

Someone at - it the same problem and is there a solution for this? Maybe you can help me.

    welcome them

    Hello

Satellite M70 was delivered with Windows XP edition family, and Windows XP Home typical configuration. I imagine that you have installed all Toshiba tools and utilities, so it must there also have preinstalled Toshiba Power saver.

He yiou can see profiles of different powers and each of them can be configured separately. Thus, when the laptop is connected to power notebook AC power will be the mode full power. There you can set LCD brightness to the maximum level.
When the laptop is on battery will then serve others power plan. Compare the settings in two power modes and choose your preferred settings.

Brightness level can also be changed with the key FN + F6/F7 combination.
Of course, this will works if all Toshiba tools and utilities are preinstalled.

  • Satellite M70-340 battery not charging

I had a problem with a Toshiba Satellite M70 - 340 portable hard drive, but everything else worked perfectly, and it was possible to operate on battery power. So I sent it to a maintenance shop where they changed the hard drive and installed a fresh new copy of Windows XP. Once I got it I found that I am not able to turn it back on, except when it is connected to electricity and after a little or looking around, I found out that the battery is not.

In addition to this, when I plug first laptop for electricity while it is turned off, the yellow/orange battery LED lights only for like 3 seconds. And even if it is activated, the led is still off, and the the battery icon on the status bar indicates that the laptop works on AC and does not say that the battery charge, he repeats to me 1%.

I also tried leaving it plugged to AC while it is off, hoping he can recharge, but I bite the dust.

So what would cause the battery won't charge if from one day to another (and just by changing the HARD drive and install a fresh copy of windows XP), the battery has stopped working?

And I was just wondering is an update of the BIOS or your driver fix? I want to say a battery need some kind of driver or software to run?

    Thank you

    Hello Zaher

I have Satellite M70-159 and issue described is not known to me. If you are sure that this strange issue started after get it back you with 100% service I recommend you speak again with technicians.

Behavior described is not really normal. As much I know BIOS update or drivers have no influence on it and to me it sounds like a malfunction of the equipment.

BTW: remove the battery, connect the laptop to the power adapter and start Notepad. When the operating system starts correctly, wait a few minutes and put the battery in the laptop. Please let know us what happens when you do this.

  • Suddenly the screen on my Satellite M70 had color red, green or other

Some time while I was on the net screen on my Satellite M70 exploded and a color on the screen and I couldn't do anything unless I close the lid of the laptop and the computer will put into hibernation. After doing this the laptop go normally, and after a while he'll be back.

There's something that amazes me that some time, sometimes 3 times a day and some time it doesn't happen in a week.
    Please I need your help

    Hi guys

This seems very strange and it's amazing that a single software application could have a negative influence on the screen.
It happens only when the laptop connects to the internet?

But of course, maybe the program like MS Messenger has a bad influence on the graphics driver and so this problem appears.

Try to update the graphics driver and check if it helps!

  • Satellite M70-173: spontaneous reboots

I have a M70-173 that restarts spontaneously. It is under XP Home SP3 and has all updates applied.

Reboots are more common at certain times than others, but the only clue that I have on the cause, it's that they seem to be more frequent when I have the wireless network card.

I realize that it is much much to go, but everyone has ideas about what could happen?

    TIA

I have Satellite M70-159 almost two years now and it works like the first day. No reboot and some strange questions. I always use SP2 and do not want to install SP3. After reading some comments here, I don't want to have a few problems with OS well running.

What exactly happens? Laptop switches OFF and you need to start it again or laptop restarts as after reboot of the choice of option?
Is there any message or something? An application that runs in the background is possibly responsible for this.

If possible, install your laptop with the recovery image and see if the problem recurs. Sorry, but it is not possible to say with certainty why this happen. We can only speculate, here. All we have own OS configuration and use favorite applications, freeware and shareware applications. Many of them are not so good and everything is possible.

  • Satellite M70-340 - mobile scroll continues to fall down

    Hello

I have a Win XP based PC notebook Toshiba Satellite M70-340. Last week one - the problem I encounter is that fullscreen window/browser/e-mail, I opened rolls selection at the bottom. There are very small (in seconds) periods of time where behavior is not seen, but it appears again. If an e-mail window scrolls down and if I'm moving around the keyboard/mouse/scrollbar I'm impossible to do and scrolling lowers again.

I thought that this is a virus/malware/spyware and I scanned it (deep scan) with Malwarebytes, iObit i360 Spyware, Mcafee Stinger, Avast, Avira, Eset NOD32, Essentials of Microsoft, but the problem is not resolved. Threats have been found & removed but the problem remains.

This morning I noticed that the configuration of the BIOS screen showed behavior similar is that the last parameter of a chosen/selected automatically which leads me to believe that the DJ can be conking off the coast? I also hear strong beeps when I put that run Windows when I click F12.

Disabling the USB mouse has no impact. For the most part, I can scroll upward with the keyboard but the parchment falls down after a certain time which is most frustrating.

I have reset the default BIOS, run the recovery disc (reinstalled / restart of the operating system), SP3 installed on Windows XP without result.

What can be bad beats me. Help, please.

    Hello

This is most likely a faulty keyboard.
If the problem is in the physical keyboard, it will not help to simply attach an external.
Also, you must unplug the built-in keyboard.

So if you are ready to use a screwdriver, try please remove the keyboard.
If the problem disappears, consider ordering a new keyboard for your device. They are not very expensive.

    Good luck!

  • Internet LAN conection problem when power is connected - Satellite M70

    Hello

I recenetly bought a satellite M70 - 360. For some reason, internet connection (LAN) only works when the computer is running from the battery to the moment where you plug in the AC adapter, it is cut (you can also hear that there is some type of distortion on the line when the power is on)-its impossible to conect to the net, even if you already have AC. Have searched all previous messages and found that another person has reported the same issue, but no one answered at his post... ideas?

Would be very grateful for any advice.
    Mark

    Hello

Very strange. Have you checked the State of LAN card in Device Manager if the captain was connected? A yellow exclamation point appears in the net
Section of the cards to work?
In the properties of LAN card, you will find an Advanced tab. There you can activate and deactivate some additional options. I think you should check the options and possibly allow it.

You said that the internet connection does not work when the power adapter is connected. But what about connecting to the local computer network?

  • Satellite M70-148 - ATI driver blocks everything in windows starts

    Hello

Strange thing, when I start windows xp, the windows on the slider blocks

I have a Mobility Radeon x 700 graphics card in the Satellite M70-148.
I have seen that it is the graphics driver that gives the problem

I have restore dvd toshiba with the same problem.
I was on the site to download the latest driver maybe again the same problem

I went to AMD for another driver, again the same problem.
The only rider agreed to work is the driver of windows, but the quality is not top (max resolution 1024-768)

    In safe mode no locking

I also upgraded the Bios without result (and I don "t want to replace the motherboard)

An idea for the other driver for better work

    Thanks for any help

    Hi mate

It is difficult to say what issue it could be
You said that the graphics card a few worries and the laptop does not event after using the Toshiba recovery.

That s weird. This means that there is something wrong with the hardware in your case perhaps the problem of graphics chip :(

But without a hardware test it is really not easy to say what part has been affected.
I think you should contact the technician ASP pourrait test the laptop, check the motherboard and might be able to provide more details
Then you could decide what to do

  • Satellite M70-337 random startup failures

Hello, I hope someone can help with this problem.

In the past months, my Satellite M70-337 (18 months) began to refuse to start. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When that happens, it will be often blue screen, reboot, and then work fine. The BSOD seems to graphics (ialmrnt5) driver-related, so I'm not too concerned about this.

Anyway, more specifically, here's what happens:

I'll turn on the monitor and recharge the battery and the power LED lights up. Then I press the power button and the power led lights up. But the hard drive light does NOT illuminate. The display shows lifeless, and the laptop shows no sign of life other than the three lights. It does not even show the toshiba start screen which normally invites me to press F2 or F12.

I then turn off the laptop by pressing the power button and hold.

I checked the event logs, and it seems that the problem coincides with the date and time being reset to January 1, 2005. So, the problem could be related to a dead CMOS battery? The strange thing is, if I leave the phone off for a week and it will restart with no problem. Yet it can begin to misbehave after be off for 6 hours only. If the CMOS battery need replacement, probably after a week without being able to time could be reset?

And if that's the CMOS battery, why won't the laptop start not at all on a few occasions? I'm confused!

I checked the memory of errors (with MEMTEST) and it is fine. I reinstalled the memory and changed the locations of memory, he is sitting in (while wearing an anti-static bracelet!). No change.

Similarly, I checked the hard drive is in place. Yet once again, it was fine. I scanned using CHKDSK/r, and it turned out to be very good.

    Thus, all the advice, please!

    Thank you

    BAV

    Hello

I do not know how to start so I will try to explain things step by step.

    Regarding the battery CMOS;
If the battery is empty, all the parameters of the BIOS as time, data will be set to the default settings.
But the CMOS battery empty should not has a bad influence on the start-up procedure. Usually, you should get a message to access the BIOS and restore and save the changes. Then the cell phone should start as usual.
If the CMOS battery is empty, you can reload on the laptop for about 12 to 16 hours on the AC adapter / CC.

However, in my opinion the start-up problems have nothing to with the CMOS battery

    Regarding the graphics driver ialmrnt5;
I have goggled a bit and discovered that many people receive a BSOD caused by ialmrnt5.dll
This file seems to belong to the Intel graphics driver.
It would be desirable to delete the old driver Intel of the operating system and install version a new driver from the Intel page support.

But to be honest I don't think that a graphic driver could cause this problem!

I had a similar problem with my laptop 6 year old. He froze, and then it was not possible to restart the laptop. I thought it was an overheating issue. I cleaned my cooling module and assigned and new thermal grease for cooling modules and CPU, but it did not help.
I have checked with the Memtest86 memory but found no problem.
Then I removed ONE of the memory modules that have been installed in the laptop and have tested the BONE for an extended period.

Since then I have not received any errors or other trouble...
In my case it was a defective module!

    Best regards

  • Display problems on Satellite M70

I use 70 M Satellite laptop, purchased approximately more than a year back and really like it (M70 Pentium, 512 MB Ram, 40 GB HD). So far, it has been without major problems.

The only problem now is that a few times the screen for a second or a fraction of a second. It happens randomly, once or twice a day and flicker is more prmonant in the lower part of the screen. Seems a minor problem but it bugs me because I think that it is too early for a laptop show such a question and it can change over time. What do you think of him? Is this a problem with the chip graphic (it has Mobile Intel 915 GM), card mother or any other material? Doesn't seem to be a problem of software for me.

BTW I saw these flutter in two other laptops from Toshiba not with my friends, but in their case it was more frequent and prominent and the entire screen will be flutter and shake for a second / or a fraction of a second, a feeling very, very unpleasant.

My problem is that I can't even show it to a tech because I don't know how I can reproduce this floating to show him, that happens only rarely and randomly.

I want to say to two other minor problems with M70 as well:

I put in the power settings, the screen to turn off after 5 minutes and the laptop to be on standby after 10 minutes. When the screen is off and the laptop still did not in standby mode, the normal behavior of the screen is to be ON if you press the touch key (or mouse). I noticed that sometimes the screen will become not THE same to touch the mousepad, totally, it fails to do so. Obviously I can not access the windows logoff / restart at this time that the screen is OFF. Then I'll just close the lid (which puts the laptop into hibernation), and reopen it to make it again, the screen will become ON this time. I do not reset to prevent my current loss of data at the time of the power.
I noticed this problem early, after I bought it. He rarely goes well (once / twice a month). Everything has noticed this problem?

Another issue that happens too rarely (once in a month or two): sometimes while working with laptop, all of a sudden s computer screen laptop will become lemon green, light blue (not BSOD) or pearly white or another color like that. Yet once of course I can't access the windows logoff / restart at this time here, so I'll just close the lid (which puts the laptop into hibernation) and then reopen the lid to make laptop ON again; the screen will become generally Ok this time. I try not to be able to reset here also to prevent my loss of current data at that time here.
This issue has been there too since from the beginning.

All these comments make me think that there is a problem with my Toshiba of day 1, probably the graphics? Think you and advice on this subject?

Really, I'm going to be reluctant to buy a Toshiba next time because of these problems.

    Hello aiglehawk

I read your announcement with a lot of attention because I have Satellite M70-159 almost a year now and it's always very interesting to see what other M70 owners report on this model of laptop.

Unfortunately here in the forum is not possible to give you an accurate diagnosis, but I just want to write my comment on your ad. Perhaps of strange sounds, but I'll start with your last sentence:

    > Really, I'll be reluctant to buy a Toshiba next time because of these problems.

In my opinion, this sentence is absolutely superfluous and I'm sure you'll write the same thing if you had any other non-Toshiba laptop. I understand you, but you know very well that if BMW produce 100 cars it can always happen that 5 of them have a fault.

Believe me, that my Satellite M70 is almost permanent (day and night). I get it from the company where I work and I don't like at all on this subject. It runs and. I tried all the stuff you wrote in your ad and it works perfectly. Energy-saving all settings, I changed several times and I have never noticed something similar.

Yes you're right about the service. I think that you can't reproduce it, but I'm sure you know very well the technician have different tools of diagnosis for the verification of the material. With the help of these tools they may know if some hardware component is defective or not.

Because of this I recommend you contact the service. They check your laptop. The warranty is still valid?

In the end, I will also say that I love my M70 and I am very happy to have. But as next laptop I would like to have some monster like Qosmio laptops.

Good luck my friend and please let me know the results of the service.
