Strange Desktop / Start Menu redirection problem

Hi all I have a very strange problem on a field of 2012 server using Windows 7 desktop computers.

When a user connects for the first time the office menu and start to not redirected and I have the following error

You cannot apply policy and redirect the "Desktop" folder to "\\SVR\Desktops$".
Options of redirection = 0x1000.
The following error occurred: "unable to generate a list of known subfolders.
Details of the error: "the system cannot find the specified file.
".

However on 2nd session opening the desktop and start menu are redirected properly.

Description:
Applied with political success and redirected folder "Desktop" to "\\SVR\Desktops$".
Options of redirection = 0x1000.

This seems also only affect the recent HP Prodesk computers, we started to use.

Desktop and startmenu redirects are configured for a group of users and permissions are the following

Share permissions - full control everyone

Folder permissions - UserGRP Read and Execute only

Any help would be appreciated

    Thank you

You should be able to simply click on start > click and hold the left mouse button and drag the icon on your desktop. If it does not, click Start > run > paste C:\Program may Explorer > click ok. Locate the IE icon > right click and choose "send to" > Desktop.

  • Start menu are become virgins and desktop icons & shortcuts are gone, need help to restore them if possible

I contracted a virus of webroot, and although it has not crashed my pc completely, he has managed to erase my Start menu and 'all' of my icons/shortcuts office. And most importantly, I lost the Internet Explorer icon, even if I always still have and can use it through other options like my email provider when I receive mail or messages which sucks because I'm use to just clicking on my provider internet icon and it takes me right to it. It's another thing my provieder icon went too which allows you to be on my desk, so I wonder if there is a way to restore my icons on the desktop & Start menu. When their shattered virus he left me with a black screen but my toolbar was still there, I also bought the Norton 360 and installed because it all happened due to my previous expired anti-virus software. Norton 360 has helped and supported & stored all my folders and files that have been analyzed and are good, but I have no idea on how to get them back where they belong. Help! I guess I need hooked on Phonics or something... lolol

  • Right-click in the start (menu) menu options not available for live tile, why?

"  What are the options and how to do for their active and visible in the taskbar of the apps?

Store apps have no locations, you can navigate to (under normal circumstances).

In addition, Store apps cannot run as "Administrator" because they are sandboxed in a virtual machine, so that they are extremely safe and can be virus.  This is also why you cannot use apps if you do not have UAC enabled: Virtualization provided by the UAC security model is required or the platform cannot even initialize an app in the first place.

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post on Start menu problems launching apps and wanted to help.

As test, open one of the shortcuts on the desktop by right-clicking on it and choosing Properties.

There is a box of the target, and there you will see the full path to the program file.  The file name must end with ".exe" write the full path to the bottom.

Then open Windows Explorer, and using the information that you noted, navigate to the folder that contains this file.

When you find the file, double click it and see if it starts.

If so, the shortcut is "broken" and you need to replace it.  To do this, a right-click on the same file again and you should be the ability to create a shortcut.  Once created, drag that shortcut to your desktop.

If the file does not launch, it probably means that it is corrupt.

Try this with several other files.  If all fail, it means that you have file system corruption.

And I think at this point there would be that your hard drive has failed - due to age and wear.

Because it is almost impossible to find even XP these days, you will have to seriously consider replacing this PC with something more recent.

Sorry, but the PC does not last forever.

    Good luck

    Hello

    1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?

Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1:

I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.

    a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
    b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
    c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
    Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    Explorer.exe

    d. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.

    Step 2:

Test the issue in a new user account.

    Hi Rehman,

    ·         Did you change to the computer?

    ·         What is the antivirus installed on the computer program?

    ·         The start menu is empty?

    ·         Other user accounts have the same problem?

Check to see if the following is useful.

Method 1: You can run the Microsoft Safety Scanner to check the infection by the virus. Check out the following link to do so.

Microsoft Safety Scanner - free online tool for PC health and safety

Method 2: Check to see if this article helps you to the question of the desktop icons.

Your desktop icons are missing in Windows XP

Method 3: Log on to another user account and check for the issue. If you do not have another user account and then create a and look for the same thing.

  • Vista Start Menu problems

This is similar to the problems of others on the Vista Start Menu and the taskbar. I looked at the answer, tried to do, but it is already on the "'Start Menu" look, with the "Classic Start Menu" unchecked. "

He remains in the classic style. Even the scrollbars, windows and Microsoft Paint Program file have a look outdated. In fact, everything, but my Google Chrome browser is outdated, even if the scroll bar is white and square.

I love my computer and what she looked like before. This has happened after that my laptop has suffered a systematic update. I leave my laptop rest and waited to reconnect. The first I noticed was the Start Menu obsolete, white square and unpleasant. Another thing I noticed, it was a bubble of a word on a system event Notification. I don't know if it plays a role in this dilemma.

I want just the Start Menu of Vista to look like a Vista Start menu.

    Hi MLD1990,

Step 1: start by checking the event notification to know what could have happened.

    See the links below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/open-Event-Viewer

Step 2: this could also be a problem with the themes, you can try to change to a different theme (Vista's Aero theme) and then check out.

For more information, see the links below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-desktop-theme

Step 3: you can also check the recently installed updates to know what could be the cause.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/see-which-Windows-updates-are-installed

    Hope this information is useful.
