I'm trying to stop my netbook, and it was stuck on installing update 1 of 14 for well over an hour.
Hi Scouty7,
1. perform the updates always installation?
2 you cannot stop the laptop?
3. do you get an error at startup of the system?Given the many updates installed on the computer, it is recommended to wait for the updates are installed successfully. Force reboot or stopping manually in the middle of the installation of updates can cause system start to fail.

Stuck at installing updates 1 of 26
I'm stuck on the screen that says "do not turn off or unplug the machine, install update 1 of 26" it has been like that for 4 hours.
Chode_Muncher,
That suggested Andre, that's when you go into Windows Update, you can choose to display updates are available. In the list, you can then select the updates to install. You must then select only 2 or 3 then restarts once they have installed. Repeat this process until all updates are installed. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

Tip: Ideally, you would never, EVER use system restore to 'Cancel' an update, Service Pack, or upgrade of IE! Instead, uninstall the update, Service Pack, or the IE patch & reboot. If that does not resolve the problem, then try System Restore.
Tip: Should choose a good Restore Point will leave you with a "restore incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored... "error, see http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html

Update Vista stuck on installing update 4 of 7 for 2 hours
During a normal shutdown, I got the message updates were insalled (Vista Home Premimum). For two hours, I was stuck on the installation of updagte 4 of 7. How should I proceed. Power off, to let him stay or what? If I turn it off, which option to choose on a reboot?
klh1955,
If you are still having this problem, then normally choose the boot option and see if it will fill or load normally. If you enter Windows and not all updates have been installed, you can install the updates one at a time and see if one of them is having a problem.
