Subvi visibility

I inherited a large (1000 + screws seems large to me) project TestStand in which many of the subVIs are visible. How to determine by inspection the process used to make a visible Subvi? I am fairly new to this, but I think that there are at least two ways to do this. I remember having seen that a number of things about it but failed to make a mental note that I was alligators in size of a different kind at the time. Looks like there is a visible when running and bring in before the method but can't seem to find them.

Thank you

JVH

JVH,

When it comes to 'visible', I guess you mean "popup", in other words: when it is called, the VI it shows the façade. Fix?

If so, there are several places where this could be configured. But more often, the popup feature is configured in the VI himself (VI settings > appearance). It would be the first place for me to look in.

hope this helps,

Norbert

Would be easier to place a static VI reference (application control palette) and search for the correct VI. Then use a node to invoke with the FP.open method.

  • Looking for a way to programmatically set the visible front part when opens a Subvi

I'm looking for a way to programmatically set the visible portion of the front panel, when a Subvi opens.  Did not find all the messages that are related, but I do not know how to ask the right question.  To be clear, I want to write a VI assistance programme through a list of subVIs to ensure that background images are all in the same place when to open their respective subVIs.  I hate to play manually with scroll bars before I save each of the screws...  I'm thinking I need to find the top/left of the background image location (know already do) and then to set a property of the VI FP some offset or these values, but I can't find the corresponding property. FP:run - timeposition:custom looked promising, but only affects the location of the window, and not the area of the front panel displays the window.

I should have added that the idea of using the background image does NOT change the origin.  Therefore, always be close enough, as your controls and indicators won't move, just the image.

I personally use the OpenG VI and the open method of front panel, when I am in your situation.

  • Make items within a cluster (in) visible by a Subvi (from LVOOP?)

    Hello

I would like to know how it is possible to make elements inside an invisible cluster, using a Subvi from LVOOP.

The description is in the main program, the internal operation is explained in the Subvi.

Her to give a larger program a better overview. But I don't know how to do it.

Create a reference instead of a property node.

Pass this reference to your Subvi and use nodes of property to the rear on the reference that the sub - VI was adopted by the high level VI.

You can review the images that I have in my "GUI_Controller" Albumn found here. If you click any of these images, it will take you to a page with an image more large and which includes a link to the thread where I spoke at the origin of these images under the model of design GUI_Controller (a form of Action Engine).

It is apreview of what you will find in this Albumn.

If you post stuff a few photos more (thanks!), so we can take a pic.

  • used in a Subvi LabVIEW property node

I have a group of Boolean control front, I want to minipulate the visibility and color (4) in a Subvi.  I created a Boolean refnum cluster and spent by them in VI.  In VI, I created a group of CTLRefnum that I used as entrance pole.  In the Subvi, I am able to control the visibility through the time property node, but the Color property node (4) does not appear as a selection in the Sub - VI.  Any ideas on how I could control the colors in a Subvi.

    Hello HEJ@WR,

Looks like you may have thrown your refnums Boolean to more generic control refnums - as the Color property is specific to Boolean values, you will need to ensure that you are now the reference type.  Visibility is a property more generic that applies to all types of controls. Refer to this article for more information on casting refnums:

LabVIEWWiki also has a very good discussion of types refnum and properties specific to the class here:

Also - if you set the example code showing what you're trying to do is much easier for other users of the forum help!

  • Using an algorithm of scaling of the graph of a waveform within a Subvi invisible?

    Hello

I have a little problem with the automatic scaling of the graphs.

    First of all:

For automatic scaling of the axis LabVIEW uses the set of data that was sent to the curve. If I zoomed in on the inside, the automatic scaling always uses all of the data even if it is not visible at the moment. To resolve this problem, I read on the positions of the zoom sliders and values min/max within this area of research. This method works.

    Second:

Now, I want to the scale of the axis using the specified min/max values. Labview graphics using a special algorithm of scaling according to the format of the axis. I want to use it, so my idea was to send the cut data and format of the axis to a Subvi. Inside this Subvi, I use a waveformgraph to display the cut data and run an automatic scaling once. Now, I read the values min/max of the graph and set this values on the main chart, I see in my program.

The result is, my main chart shows the data zoomed area in maximum size (to the axis scale) and hole data is always available, so I can still pass the data in the chart or others.

Problem: The sense of scale with a grpah inside a Subvi only works if the chart inside the Subvi is visible. If it isn't, no scaling would be made. My solution is to open the Subvi as a small window and close automatically after the scaling. It's not very nice.

Are there any other ideas how to use auto scaling without showing the front of the Subvi?

Thank you very much and best regards,

    Michael

    Hi Michael,

-show your façade out of the visible screen area, so the user does not notice the window...

-Make your own algorithm of scaling based on these values min/max...

  • 'Create a Subvi' movements labels (LV2013) IMAQ image controls

    Hello

I noticed a strange behavior in LV2013 (x 64 and x 86) what SubVIs creation from a selection containing Image IMAQ son:

The labels out of place of obtained characteristics Subvi on IMAQ controls/indicators, see the illustration below.

    This VI

is impaired by creating a Subvi for copying and masking as follows

The Subvi created has a façade that result that looks like this:

All labels on IMAQ orders/lights are completely irrelevant. I couldn't understand, what appears to be a function of the new position of the label. In any case, it is quite annoying, because labels sometimes moving out of the main visible portion of the public Service and you have to go and look for them (through the window). -You must identify all the labels with the command/indicator to put everything back in place.

One of my colleagues has confirmed this behavior on a different windows PC, using the same version of LV in x 64 and the same version of Windows 7 Pro)

Of course, a simple method of MoveToDefaultLocation on all PS elements cause they go where they are expected to be, but how tedious... I remember not such behaviour in LV2011 where I used 'Create Subvi' loads of times with IMAQ Vision functions.

I'd be happy if someone such color in it. Thank you very much.

Cleaning of façade create a Subvi is performed, but it's not explicitly change the position of the control and indicator labels. There seems to be a bug in VI server when setting the position of the refnums IMAQ. This bug is independent of the function to create a Subvi. When writing of the 'Position' of a refnum IMAQ control property, the label seems to throw himself in a weird position. I've not seen this with other types of control with other controls, their labels always remain in the same relative position when the control is moved.

I'll drop a CAR against the Position and IMAQ refnums property. In the meantime, you can use the VI attached to this post to solve the problem. Follow these steps in LabVIEW 2013 or later:

1 copy of the VI attached to the following location: [LabVIEW 20xx] \resource\plugins\CreateSubVI

    2. restart LabVIEW.

Once you have done, the position of the label IMAQ refnum to correct every time that you perform an operation to create a Subvi.

  • Main VI is not up-to-date data Subvi

My guess is that you have a while loop in your Subvi. If so, the essential is not supposed to be updated the Subvi is running. It will only get updated when the Subvi ends. This is the basis of dataflow. If you have the front of the visible Subvi, why do you need to show the same data by hand. Depending on how you call your Subvi, you can't do anything with the hand until the Subvi ends anyway. It is also fundamental data streams.

You could explain what exactly you want the Subvi and hand to do. Attach the hand and Subvi

  • Contact a Subvi in a secondary

    Hello

I'm creating an application in which I have a main program running under three - VI with their visible facades in sub-panels on the main program.

I want the main program to be able to send data to the Subvi for initiation settings where each message to each Subvi would be different and a common stop etc.  (it will be a group of initialization parameters and a stop ctl Boolean)

I don't know it's probably subjective, however what is the 'best' way to transfer this data to or from a Subvi, lacking access to the connector pane?  I tried currently Global Variables and method of Ctrl Val.Set and do not know what are the benefits of a more than another's? Or is it a better overall solution - I've heard people speak of notifies on globals, but do not know how this could be implemented without the connector pane?

    Thanks for your time,

    Mark

I generally use the queues and the authors of notifications when dealing with the sub-panels.  You can get a reference to a queue or the notifier without using the connector pane by plugging in the name Terminal on the function get.  I sometimes destroy the queue to force an error in high school to get out by an error state.  controlValue.Set is good for the initial values of the parameters before the subpannel is executed and could be used for the infrequent control changes. Controlvalue.set access to the UI thread and is relatively slow compared to the transmission of the data via a queue or the notifier.  If several values at once uses the property "reporter Panel" updated (set to true during the changes) to significantly improve performance.

  • Run Subvi dynamically

I read a lot of post on this, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do this.  I want to do is create a pop window of my main vi that is currently running.  Pop up to if poster select indicator values but in a zoom State so they will be visible from a distance.  So I need the values in the pop up for update with main vi that is running.  An attempt, I did the information gathered from messages is attached.  The problem is that the Subvi front is not displayed when the zoom button is pressed.  There seems to be a problem with how I'm passing the reference to sub - VI.

First of all I am doing this correctly?  Secondly, how can I connect my reference in primary vi to the Subvi?

    Thanks in advance

    Terry

Here is a photo illustrating what nathand said you:

I added the ' FP. ' " Open in the Subvi method, but as he says, you can do it here or in the main VI.  I like to have in the Subvi, so that the user can click on the 'X' to close the Subvi Panel instead of click on 'stop' red) and the Subvi ends always correctly, but it's a matter of personal preference.

He has a good point about the reentrancy.

I also prefer to use queues or the authors of notifications to pass data between the screws, instead of control references, but it is also a matter of personal preference.

  • Great Multiplot XY graph very slow to update the changes in the line of visibility/colour/width

    Hi all

I have a problem that is interesting for you all. I'm trying to update the features of large graph XY (3600 points given for each of the 160 different storylines, all on a graph) by reference and it goes very slowly.

What I've implemented is a system where mousing over other indicators and buttons "will highlight" certain groups of plots by intrigues a thickness of 2 instead of 1. Similarly, clicking on other buttons will change the color of the plot or toggle the visibility of certain parcels. This implementation, I have a Subvi, which contains a reference to the xy graph, and in a loop for each parcel of land for active, applies the changes I want to see done. The problem is that it takes more than a minute to fill in for an update! I'm supposed to be traced new points of every second, and mouseovers and button clicks may occur several times in a second, so it is obviously unacceptable.

I noticed that as I'm a loop in all plots of 160 in the Subvi, the XY graph is updated, one plot at a time. My question is: is it possible to prevent the update until all changes have been made in the chart? Or maybe a way to apply all the changes at the same time, rather than use a loop for?

I discovered that if I simply drag a property node graph xy HUGE and all at once instead of make a loop for, the changes appear immediately as you wish. Is it really what I have to do to get the results I want? It is incredibly long and unmanageable to have a node gigantic property will be all the steps of the loop being applied at the time.

    Help is greatly appreciated!

    -Aaron

    Two things you should consider:

    (1) reporter Panel updates.  The value True before the loop and false afterwards.  Considerably from the things speeds as this place.

    (2) no way you can see 3600 points on a graph.  With this number of plots, I would consider the decimation of the data in order to reduce the number of items displayed.

  • Outsourcing of the controls on the front panel for a panel floating Subvi

    Hello!

I already found a few similar topics, but I still don't know which is the best way to solve my problem. I will try to describe my problem in detail first: I have a main VI that acquires data from a device and displays these data in a large waveform graph. I have also a few controls on the front panel to control my device. First, I placed all of these device controls (digital, sliders, etc.) as well as the chart inside the front of my main VI. However, due to limited screen space now I would like to make the largest possible graph and so decided to "outsource" some controls out of the main façade of VI to several panels front-end Subvi.

I would then press a button in my main VI and it would open the Panel before the floating of the Sub - VI corresponding with outsourced controls when required. However, everything must be absolutely transparent. It is important that floating panels to run in parallel with my main VI, that is the main VI must continue to operate. That way I'll have my data constantly updated in the chart in my main VI while I can change some settings of the device through the controls placed in my SubVIs. These changes will be immediately applied (for example as soon as the main VI calls this slot - VI in its main loop).

It is important to the visibility of the outsourced optional control panel, i.e. If the Subvi front panel opens with the user that it will pop up and the user will be able to change the paramers device using the. But then the user should be able to close the front panel (hide) the Subvi to see the entire chart again without the Panel floating in front of her (of course control values must be maintained when the Subvi front is not visible). Then the new button is pressed in the main VI that opens the dialog box not modal Subvi containing controls and it can redefine new values of device.

Advice how to do this are welcome. I don't know if I need something complex like VI server or asynchronous screws or I can solve my problem by changing some settings simple Subvi? Thank you in advance for your help!

    Best regards

    Anguel

How about using a global variable for the VI at VI communication instead of a queue?

A global variable will, also.  Write you in one place and read the value frequently to somewhere else (in the election). So you can see easily to any value change.  However, mark will waste a lot of time processor.  This is why I have proposed to use a queue or a notification utility.

    AStankov wrote:

Would be the last option that you mentioned, i.e. finish the Subvi at each change of value, I would keep the Subvi front open as needed until things from the user to hide? Or would there be inevitable flickering Panel or any other drawbacks?

Yes, the Subvi can keep the façade open until the user closes. And there should be no flickering.  The biggest drawback I see right now is that when you expect an event in the Subvi, the mainVI cannot stop without talking to the Subvi to stop.  So you'll need another channel of communication (again a global, a queue, a declarant or an event) to tell the Subvi that she must stop.

  • Is it possible to create a Subvi of variable size (stretch)?

I was wondering if it is possible to create a Subvi where its size (inputs and outputs) can be extended. To be clear, something like the CONCATENATE function, where you can change its size by making it bigger.

Which does not allow the slide to add more entries, it changes just input/output are visible. I think OP wants a Subvi with an expandable size input/output similar to the Array Index or concatenate strings.

Good point, my suggestion really offers only a cosmetic change in the way your diagram appears. OP, you might look into XNodes to do what you describe, but it will probably take some work. Last I heard they are a type of "use at your own risk" of functionality that is not officially documented or supported.
