  Windows XP SP3 problem

  Recently, I met a problem with my PC and was forced to use the system recovery. Now I'm back to factory settings and try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my computer. Windows Update won't work for me, that whenever I try to update I get [error number: 0x8024400A]. I think it's because I use Service Pack 2, or that's what I concluded after researching the problem, anyway.

Because I could not get the update automatically, I tried to download and install the "Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT professionals and developers" myself. The first time I did it, I restarted the PC after the installation and was met with "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. "  I went into safe mode and went to a just system restore point before SP3 was installed, but now I don't know how to install it correctly without encountering this problem after reboot. I'm hardly the easy just stick with SP2 when there are potentially important available updates. How can I get Windows Service Pack 3 is installed on my PC?

  If the cause of your problem is to have a HP PC with an AMD processor and an original image on your hard drive (and of course it sounds like this is the case), the solution should be to rename the file intelppm.sys and launch the sp37394.exe patch. Once done, the SP3 file that you downloaded from here:

  SHOULD work!
  I'm puzzled why there is no intelppm.sys file in your directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.
  Since you recently returned to square one with your PC ("return to factory settings"), then you may as well run the patch from this page:

  and try the SP3 Setup file again.
  But, first, let's be absolutely sure that we are both using the same terminology. Please answer the following questions:
  1. have you safely backed up ALL your data?
  2. what method did you use to ride "back to factory settings? I think that your choices have been a destructive restore (full) and a (partial) non-destructive recovery. The first erases the disk and leave you with a pristine image and NOTHING ELSE (which means that all of your programs and data get deleted). The other (which does not always correctly) is supposed to leave programs and data intact.

  · What is the number and the model of the computer?

  · Do you remember all the recent changes on the computer before the show?

  · What is the service pack installed on the computer?

  · What options have tried advanced startup options?

  Remove all external devices such as printers and scanners connected to the computer and then try to start.

  As you mentioned you don't have a CD/DVD drive on the computer and you are not able to boot in any mode, there are only two options:

  a. you will need to connect external CD/DVD drive to the computer for further troubleshooting.

  b. you must contact the manufacturer of the computer.

  2. are you able to boot to the desktop?

  3. did you of recent changes on the computer?

  Method 1

  If you are unable to start windows check to see if you can boot into safe mode.

  If you are able to boot into safe mode then I would suggest that you do clean boot and check.

  You can click on the box "Show more restore points" to view the older, but they may not be as reliable (they may fail to apply or they may not actually work).

  If you do not see the box to check, or the oldest, so it is not of the ancients still show.  If this is the case, you will need to use the 'Refresh PC'.

  This driver belongs to AsIO.sys Asus Probe. Try to uninstall Asus Probe and if you need, install again. If this does not help, uninstall Asus Probe and other tools of control such as Speedfan. Open the registry (regedit.exe) editor and search for AsIO.sys and remove all the entries that you can find.
