Sudden power problem

(I searched the forums for a couple of hours, without success, before posting)

I have a T61p which worked great for a few years.  All of a sudden yesterday, he refused to power upward: a boot cold goes like this: to begin with, only the power plug and battery lights is on.  When I press the power button, the light of Z-with-a-circle and the caps lock and caps lock Num-buttons flash (with a soft click), and then, with another low click, the lights of locking caps and caps lock Num-fade - and nothing else.

I took out the battery, unplugged the power cord, drained the laptop by pressing the power button and plugged the cord in - same result (except the battery light is not, of course).  Today, handing the in fact only the battery orange flash light, making me think it battery is not, either.

I'm deeply watered?  Must I now begin to ask questions about how to recover my data from the hard drive for my laptop soon-to-be-newly purchased?

This is compatible with the nVidia GPU failure. If your laptop production date is before 2008/08/08 (August), then he has a graphics processor which tend to fail more often then normal. If this is the case, you need to replace your motherboard. In this case, there are many options and here are several good discussions in the forum on this subject and the options to solve the problem, just be careful because there are many tips that have been poorly repaired offered for sale. It would be a trivial question to get your system to boot, but it would increase again in minutes, days, weeks, each time only.

I suggest you do some reading and if there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

  • On the Satellite P30-131 power problem

I have a power problem and I tried the process of elimination, but could do with help, I gave as much detail as possible and appreciate any help or advice.

This started a few weeks ago and seems to be deteriorating slowly.
I turned on the laptop and all 3 lights before the main power on fully charged battery light and light green...

I started noticing a few times when my power cord is plugged into the laptop that, without warning, the laptop switches to the battery power and also turns off power light, battery light turns off too but which may or may not happen, in any case the laptop is still on but now running on battery.

I then out of the supply cable and reconnected it hoping that power is restored, but it has no effect, I have to close then low laptop unplug then Pug back in and I get all 3 lights and then I can start.
Now, when I boot it does not always solve the problem and I can finish on a few seconds of starting battery.

Its certainly not the battery because it has a new battery replaced 12 months however, its either the adapter or the connection inside the laptop that plugs into the adapter.

The reason I think it is perhaps one of them is when the laptop going to battery, lead that is always plugged into laptop, I moved, and this can cause the return of t lights and also the laptop back in, power once again, but if I let go then it goes to the battery again one the light turns off. I also took the battery out and kicked and the laptop works but has lost the power sometimes when I moved it turned off my tour so I'm sure that it is related to the lead, but do not know if its internal or external.

    Any help or advice appreciated

    Thank you

What kind of help did you expect exactly?

    > Its certainly not the battery as it was a new battery replaced 12 months however, its either the adapter or the connection inside the laptop that plugs into the adapter.

It seems you have tested everything that could be tested using common control procedures, I think that more is not possible
I can provide also a few suggestions and I m coming to the conclusion that neither electronic power supply is not ok or your power adapter.
But I would tend to the first; electronic power supply.

As you can see that these are only suggestions

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi aloum,.

    (a) what kind of mouse you are using?

    (b) the left button of the mouse seems to be stuck or it does not meet the click? This only happens with certain applications?

Step 1: Test the mouse on another computer or another mouse on the test computer

To determine whether the mouse or the computer is defective, follow these steps:

    1. test the mouse in question on a system that works, you know. If the problem appears to follow the mouse, you may need to return or replace the mouse.

2 test a mouse you know is working on the computer in question. If the problem seems to stay on the computer, then the problem is most likely related to the software.

In regard to the battery not holding charge

Battery problems are often associated with the battery itself. If you encounter this problem, contact your mobile PC manufacturer. If you purchased the battery separately from the notebook computer, contact the manufacturer of the battery.

    Hello

I have a desktop HP Pavilion 7865 has started to give me some power problems.  I followed the troubleshooting steps to

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/bph06788#n414

The first time it's happened that I noticed that the power light little would go as I connect the power cord to the back of the unit.  But the little green light and then returned.  After some tests, the power light remained on and I was able to turn on the pc.  However, it started again this morning so I finally took my monitor power cord and used this one to connect the power supply to the back of the computer and to a power outlet and it works.  I plug the pc power cord into the monitor and my monitor works too so I don't know if it is or is not the power cord, but I'll go out and get a new one and see if that solves all my problems.

However, my question is this... If the problem is with the power supply that I plug in can be replaced?  If so, it is something I can do myself or should I consider somewhere to do?  Also, if I need to replace the power supply and I can do it, how can I know what type of replacement power supply unit power I need to get and are there any other cables that I also need?

Thank you so much for all your help.

  • Satellite A30 - sudden power loss

2 times recently my A30 suddenly just cut dead, almost like a power cut (even if it wasn't!). If I tried to re - start right away it would only have access to the login screen and then completely cut out again. If I leave then for an hour or two (cool?), it starts OK. Oddly enough, you do NOT receive the usual message "windows was not shut down properly, now check the drive for errors," i.e. it booted up just normally, however the 2 I was working on documents Word have been recovered OK.

My feeling is that it may be a hardware failure, possibly related to the temperature? Someone out there you have ideas? Thanks in anticipation...

    Hello

It could be an overheating problem. If the temperature drops to the critical limit for the operating system stops the unit. It is a thermal protection of the portable Toshiba.
Well, the overheating problem is a very serious problem. I recommend to check for dust cooling fans. Try to clean it with the vacuum cleaner.
If the problem persists then you should contact the service partner.

  • Equium P300 - 16t power problems

My laptop Equium P300-16 t has suddenly stopped working. When it is connected, the power icon is always on view, but the battery icon has disappeared, and the battery icon when you press the power button flashes red for a few seconds before disappearing... it means I need a new battery?

I thought that the computer could work without the battery, if it was still not able to connect to a power supply via the power adapter? I just wanted to check before you buy a new battery, I don't want to spend £50 on something that is unnecessary, especially if I have to buy a new laptop.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

I don t think you need a new battery because the laptop should work without the battery only on the AC adapter.
I guess that this problem is related to the motherboard or components (RAM) on the motherboard.

    Guess what? Try this:
Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery.
Now press the power button / 30 sec long. Connect the two parts, then try to turn on the unit.
To be honest I m not sure if this would help you but it s worth a try

If this does not help, delete one of the RAM modules and test the device using a module in each slot, but in the worst case it is a motherboard problem, and this should be verified by a Toshiba ASP

  • Lenovo Y510P | Sudden power loss on unplug and operate the State cycling under the optimized battery

    Hello

I recently came across these related problems on my Lenovo Y510P of power: model i7, 8 GB Ram, GT750M configuration.

    ----

It started after I installed a new SSD for the system, the clean install of Windows 8.1 with all latest drivers except the previous version of the BIOS and Lenovo Energy Management. Until all this started, the battery would not charge I have troubleshooted and fixed this problem by removing the battery and holding down the Start button. Over the next few days, I started to have additional problems.

When I unplugged the power adapter, the system suddenly put off the power. Here is what happens:

    1. turn on the system with connected adapter and battery attached.

    2. unplug the adapter

    3. quickly plug adapter

    4. Quick disconnect adapter again.

    5. the system turns off completely.

Then, I started to notice that the "Battery optimized" regime, the power state would be cycle between power adaptor and batteries, as observed in the cycling of screen brightness and performace cobs. This has happened only if the battery charge level was higher than 60% but less than 98%. Regularly, I used this energy system and did not notice this problem until very recently.

    ----

I reinstalled the original SSHD (same OS and driver installation methods), where these issues were not present in the past. However, two problems remained.

I've updated the BIOS and the Lenovo Energy Management to the latest versions. Two problems persist.

    ----

I would appreciate any help or insight. My tech knowledge level is above average, so feel free to use the advances or procedures. Thank you!

I don't know what the problem at the moment with your laptop, but if it's a problem with the power supply or the battery it can easily lead to a fried motherboard.

I would like to communicate with Lenovo and send the laptop for repairs or ask for a replacement charger and battery.

  • power problem only with HP Pavilion ze4400

    Hi all

My trusty Pavilion ze4400 suddenly stopped responding when plugging in a power supply. Light that indicates that the battery is charging not connect anymore. I can't make it work without a power supply because the battery has almost completely lost his ability. There is no problem with the operating system or the hardware, I was still working with a few hours ago.

My question is: is there a way I can get my data from the hard drive? Perhaps by removing the disk hard drive itself? I searched with the envelope and even down it does not seem easy.

Is there anything else I can try? I thought about putting a new battery in there, but it must be already loaded and I can't load it with my laptop.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

This could be a number of things.

    (1) the charger is dead. The Chargers do not last forever. If you know someone with a similar laptop that uses the SAME charger, try this to see if it helps. Make sure the charger is the same voltage, same polarity and is the same size plug.

    (2) the laptop has a hardware failure. Where your charger plugs into the laptop may be damaged by the cord pulled in a clumsy direction. Over time this can happen as well due to the odd tug on the cord. If this is the case, you will need to have it repaired by a technician.

    (3) the unit is cactus. There is also the chance of the machine is dead. Does not simply because he was working an hour ago, there no FRY in the last hour. These things are happening.

Get your hands on a charger that is proven to be good is the first step to find the fault.

If you find that the device is dead, you should be able to remove the HARD drive. Computer portable HARD drive are a usable user component and are usually accessible by removing the two small screws on the bottom. If the HARD drive is a SATA drive you can simply connect it to a desktop PC to access your data. You could also use and external box so that you can access the HARD drive via USB or eSATA.

If it is an IDE HDD then you need a 2.5 "IDE to IDE adapter 3.5" or an external enclosure 2.5 "IDE.

I hope that it helps anything here!

  • Power Mac G5 power problems...

Hello, on a quest to find a G5 computer, I found an early 2005 Power Mac G5 (2x2.7GHz). The first time I plugged it in and turned on, it works beautifully. The second time, I pressed the power button and heard a loud noise from the power supply. I replaced and this is what is happening now:

When I plug the power cable in, there is a small clicking noise about a second after plugging in, and the power led on the front of the machine flashes for the click. However, it does not at all depend on when I press the power button. When I unplug the cable, it makes the same noise about a second after I unplug the unit. I see a pale glow of the light output after unplugging it.

Anyone have any suggestions to solve this problem? It is part of a collection, that's why I want to do operational.

There may be defective capacitors or other power supply problems, including

overheating in the dust inside the power supply or air channels. And

If the device is cooled by liquid, other things may be involved.

Since all the PowerMac G5 power supplies are considered to be custom,.

to get a good replacement is a way hoped to improve the situation.

Unlikely as is, actually an inexpensive job.

  • Help! Why 'Save' did not work in Word 2008? (Sudden compatibility problem?)

This may be a matter of Microsoft, but I couldn't find an answer on Microsoft, and I see that sometimes Word questions get addressed here - I'm really desperate, so thanks for any help out there!  For my actual questions, scroll down.

    SITUATION:

Yesterday I plugged my Macbook (13 "early 2006) to a"certified refurbished"card I bought it in case I ever needed replacement.  This morning, my speakers Logitech from emitting a buzzing, but it disappeared when I disconnected the.  Then after that I had worked for about 20 minutes, Word for Mac 2008 started to work very slowly.  Fortunately (I thought), I have always set Word to register automatically once per minute and had saved the document several times manually anyway.

Don't know what was going on, I saved the doc once and tried to quit Word normally, but everything was so slow that I knew I was in trouble.  I couldn't get to "Force quit" in the Finder or get the slider to make a restart (the cursor moved but Finder did not), so finally I forced a stoppage.

When the computer has restarted, I was hoping that at least if the document had not been recorded when I pressed on congratulate + S, I could get it back to automatic recovery.  However, when I open the document again, not only had not he been saved, but nothing of all the work I had done since starting to work 20 minutes earlier had been saved or (although I definitely checked him at least 4 times, including just before trying to quit smoking).  In addition, the 2008 Auto Recovery folder is now empty.  Other Office programs that I use seem to work normally.

I have copies of what I started with (I save to Dropbox on a stick every time I stopped to work and every night with SuperDuper/passport), so it was not a disaster, except that I really want to recover the work I've done.  I went into the preferences of Word and saw that "Autosave" was always "every minute" but "Always make a backup copy of" has been disabled, so I checked it - but of course will not recover my lost files.  I then went to the typed Word document something again, click Save (File menu this time), you leave the file and reopened; the change I had made had been recorded. If that really works, but I fear even saved manual can stop working!

    QUESTIONS:

    1. is it possible to locate and recover at least one of the previous versions I saved?  (Hopefully there is a simple explanation; "I'm a kind of a technodunce!)

    2. where did you all documents Word 2008 AutoRecovery go who were supposed to be in the folder Microsoft Data?

    3. can you Word 2008 suddenly became incompatible with OS 10.6.8? Or could the new adapter did BONES 10.6.8 (Word, Finder, etc.) crash AND destroyed existing AutoRecover documents?  (I had not looked into the record of automatic recovery for a while, but I'm sure there are a few in there!)

    4. where are all these "Works Word files" I always saw? Don't know what they were for, but I can't now.

    5. Why does Word not only disappear all the existing documents of ASR, but also stop save the custom keyboard + S?

Thank you very much for any suggestions on these questions (1 and 2, in particular!).

  • Satellite Pro U400 starts - power problem?

    Hey,.

my liquid U400 down without any reason and doesn't start anymore.
My first idea was damage from CPU, but even if the laptop is taken to power the power led does not illuminate.

    (1) make U400 notebook work normally when the battery is removed, but pluged in power? Because if not maybe only the battery is broken.
    (2) any other ideas? :)

Guarantee is more than 1 months :(

Answer to your question is YES. You can remove the battery and use your laptop with AC power only. In most PC stores showing the rooms are placed laptop without battery. Probably the batteries have been stolen in the past.
Anyway, they can run with AC power only.

When you connect the laptop to the power plug and the power light is not on I assume that there is a problem of electronic power supply.
