Svchost 100% Windows Update the cause

From my own post about my problem after taking the post similar here.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook, running Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, Version 2002, Service Pack 3. I use Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus. This toughbook gets used to work.

Noticed the last time I turned it on it, he crawled and was unusable. Today I spent some time with it and noticed the process svchost.exe takes 99% CPU. I have narrowed it down to the service of automatic updates which is the cause and I was also impossible to obtain updates through Windows Update with the right bar from green back and forth endless progression.

First of all, in the Windows Task Manager, I've selected display, select columns and checked the PID (process identifier). It showed me which instance of svchost was using all of the CPU, PID 1060 (although this PID is probably different on different machines)

Secondly, I opened a command prompt and ran: tasklist/SVC

In the list, I looked at used 1060 PID and invalidates them one at a time by services.msc services

Disabling automatic updates service immediately set the svchost using all CPUS.

Recheck the tasklist/SVC watch the wuauserv (automatic update service) was the only service missing PID 1060 for the svchost problem.

I think I found the solution at the moment. I was brought to him a post on another forum.

The solution was to install the last update of security for IE8 (KB2879017). You can find and download at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40390.

1st thing to try is a restoration of the system in safe mode

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.

    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

    Hi joselizama,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. What is the full error message that you receive?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?
    4. When was the last time it was working fine?

    Method 1

I suggest that you restart all services related to Windows update and check later if you can install the updates of Windows on the computer.

To restart services required by Windows Update

You must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps.

    1. Open administrative tools by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools.
    2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. In the Services window, double-click in the Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
    4. Under the tab general , under Startup type, click Manual, and then click apply.
    5. Click the connection tab and make sure that the service is enabled in every hardware profile listed.
    6. Click the general tab, click Start, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    7. In the Services window, double-click Windows event log.
    8. Under the tab general , next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.
    9. Next to Service status, check whether the service is started. If not, click Start, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    10. In the Services window, double-click the Windows Update service.
    11. Under the tab general , next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.
    12. Next to Service status, check if the drive is listed. If not, click Start, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    13. In the Services window, double-click software licensing.
    14. Under the tab general , next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.
    15. Next to Service status, check if the drive is listed. If not, click Start, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    16. Close the Services window and try to install Windows updates again.

    Method 2

If the previous step fails then I would suggest that reset you the default Windows Update components and later try to install updates.

First of all, please note that the term 'memory' is used to designate the
place where the computer contains the program and data with which it is working
for the time being. It's normally a memory (RAM), but who can
be extended with the page or swap hard disk file. The word
'memory' is never used to refer to the space on a drive (be it
It's a hard drive, floppy disk, CD, DVD or thumb drive). Space on a
hard drive is normally called "storage" or simply "disk space".

Call for 'memory' disk space is not so much wrong as we have just
unconventional. In a sense, the disk space is, of course, memory, but the
important thing to realize is that the word is never used in this way.
and if you do, you do so at the risk of confusion seriously your
    public.

So I guess that you may have about disk space, not memory. Do not
remove the previous updates, since doing so put you back in the
situation before the updates, with all the problems and risks to the security
    only updates corrected.

Also note that the amount of disk space, you may save is relatively
small. And if you are short on disk space, there are various things
You can do this will save disk space.  But the amount of disk
space will be only a few cents worth. If this amount is
It would be important to you, not more than one
Palliative and the only real solution to your problem is to buy
