Hi KarenBlank,

· When you receive this error message?

· It is when you work with a program or a particular application?

· Or is it during the installation of update?

· What is the service pack installed on the computer?

· What is the number and the model of the computer?

· Do you remember all the recent changes on the computer before the show?

You can check the link below: you receive an error message after a Windows XP-based computer runs an automatic update, and you may be unable to run any programs after the closure of the "svchost.exe - Application error" error message dialog box: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927385

If any malware or virus detected on the computer activity, run also, check and online virus scan. You can run the scan for viruses online from the link below: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

I have a computer running Windows XP (sp 3) and received the above error message.  When I first start the computer, I got the following error message "Generic Host process for Win32 has encountered a problem and needs to close."  When I select the 'debug' option, I get the SVCHOST. Hello

Step 1: Perform the clean boot on the computer.

From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

    Reference:
How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
    1. click on Startand then click run.
    2. type msconfigand click OK.

The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    3. click on the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.
    4. When prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

Step 2: Perform SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer.

SFC tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

    1. open an administrator command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    2. at the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow
