  Find your profile and the prefs.js file and rename that. (The renamed file is a potentially useful backup.) Firefox is then forced to regenerate the file and will reset your default preferences. You can then re open and use Firefox. Then, try to return to normal.

  Try to manually change the file prefs.js is normally a bad idea. However, if this is a one-time change prefs it would be possible to directly edit the prefs.js file (while Firefox is closed) to get everything back to how it was before.   If the file names displayed in green, an indication that the files are encrypted using the Encrypting File System (EFS) in XP Pro.  The encryption key to decrypt these files is stored in your certificate store on the machine/user name that originally encrypted the files.  To access these files, you must connect to the original machine which them encrypted and access it using the same user.  If the encryption certificate is lost or damaged, then you permanently lose access to your files.  For more information, start with this article:
