Switching from 32-bit to 64-bit os.

My operating system is Windows 7, 64-bit home edition.  For some reason any property that it runs on a 32 bit os.  Why is this and how do I solve this problem?

Are you sure that you are really under 64-bit Windows? 64-bit systems can run 32-bit versions of Windows too.

Click Start, right click on computer

Click on properties

Go to the System section > system type:

There it will list whether the processor is x 64 based processor . In my case, I have processor 64-bit capable.

For users of Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7

You can determine if your processor is 64-bit capable in using an free tool called CPU-Z. You can download it here. Once you have installed, double click on it and it will scan your system. Click the CPU tab and look in the Instructions field, want called AMD64 or EM64Tinstruction set. If you see them, your processor is 64-bit capable.

When the 64-bit processors have been introduced more than 10 years ago, one of the advantages of x 86 - x 64 has been the ability to still run 32 bit OS on 64 bit unmodified processors and harness advantages such as compatibility and real help from 9% in performance running 32-bit code and apps on such an architecture of processor.

There is more to running a 64-bit on 64-bit operating system, other factors determine if it is worthwhile.

Windows 7 64 bit comes in handy when you need to deal with at least 4 GB of RAM or more. Windows 7 32 bit can use up to 3.2 GB of RAM. Because the address space of memory is much larger for 64-bit Windows, this means that you need two times more memory than the 32-bit Windows to accomplish some of the same task, but you are able to do much more, you can have more apps open, do things like run a virus scan in the background it will affect the performance of your system. 64-bit Windows 7 is safer too, malicious code cannot easily infiltrate it, drivers are more reliable because they must be signed before it can work with 64 bit Windows 7.

Regarding compatibility, you need device drivers 64-bit hardware devices, you may have. In addition, there is no 16-bit subsystem in Windows 7 64-bit, which means, your applications must be 32-bit only, not 16-bit Installer or programs uninstaller. Also, if you decide to switch to Windows 7 64 bit in the future, there is no way to upgrade from 32-bit Windows, clean install only. Because

If you decide to go to 64-bit

You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the applications needed.

Download the corresponding edition of Windows 7, you have a license from the following link. You can identify the edition on COA sticker on your machine, at the top/side or bottom compartment or battery (laptop) if it's a desktop computer.

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

    Hello

A full Windows license or upgrade, is for ONE Installation only.

When you have 32/64-bit, you must choose 32-bit or 64-bit, not use both.

And there is no way to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit; It must be done with a clean install.

  • Can satellite P300 - I switch from 32 to 64-bit Windows?

    Hello
Soon I'll receive the CD with Windows 7 and the drivers for my laptop (P300-20 b). I warned for Toshiba Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program. And currently I have Vista 32 bit.
Can I switch to Windows 7 64 bit of Vista 32? And another question, what is the optimal amount of RAM for 64-bit system? Currently I have 3 GB.

    Thanks for the reply!
    Kind regards
    Gregory.

    Hello Gregory

Unfortunately, you can't switch from 32 to 64 bits. If you want to use the 64-bit operating system, you must do any new installation. Install Vista 64-bit using the recovery disc or HARD drive recovery option.
After doing this update install Win7.

Optimal RAM? You can use it with current 3 GB, but if possible you can upgrade RAM and more powerful laptop. ;)
Laptop specifications that your PSPCCE can be upgraded up to 8 GB of RAM. Not bad.

    Microsoft sells more than Vista.

    Microsoft now sells Windows 7.

Before purchasing Windows 7, follow these steps:

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

I have a HP Tx1000 Tablet running on Windows Vista Premium 32 bit. I want to uprade to Windows 7 and I was wondering if I should use Windows 7 32-bit or could I upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit. I know everything must also be compatible with Vista. I have a 1.8 ghz AMD 64 X 2 Tl - 56 processor. I switch to 4 GB of ram (32-bit only recognized 3 GB though). I want to move to 64-bit so I can use all of my ram, as my computer has a severe disorder runnning, more than one program at a time especially when I have Internet Explorer to the top.

    Thank you
    Derek

    Hi derekdel,

For 32-bit to a 64-bit system on any operating system (XP, Vista, Windows 7), you will need to do a clean install.  The upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit is not available on any Microsoft OS.

    Hope this helps, Kevin

  • Can I switch from Vista Ultimate 32 bit for Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

I have a Vista Ultimate 32 bit legtitimate, I've never used and I want to upgrade to a legitimate Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.  Is it possible to do it and how?

During the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit, you must do a clean install.  You can transfer most of your settings via the windows Easy Transfer Wizard, but you will need to re - install all the applications.

    It becomes a bit messy

Yes.  You can perform a custom (clean) installation, using the upgrade disc.  For more information, see upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 and Windows 7 Upgrade Considerations .

Also, I found 10.7.5 be shifted somehow. I don't want losing cumulative use audio and video software so can't go as a result of El Capitan. I have almost everything, including Java and Flash works well, but I really need to use 32 bits to record Zoom R24.

Then, look for kernel_task.  He should be among the 64 bits

The following text is from an El Capitan, which will very probably a little different from the Lion

What follows is a Snow Leopard system which is 32-bit by default.  You will notice that kernel_task 'Genre' snow leopard filed did nto say (64-bit).  If you have successfully changed your system from Lion to start the 32 - bit, then your kernel_task shouldn't say (64-bit).

  • Switching to 64 bit to 32 bit

Awhile back, I installed a 64-bit version of windows 7 on my laptop after a hard disk failure. It started to overheat with each use, and I was led to believe that it was because of the wrong version of Windows being installed. I was hoping I'd be able to fix this with the news of upgrades for Windows 10, but after trying, I see that this is still based on what architecture is currently installed on your laptop / PC. How someone in my situation would be able to correct this problem, without a redemption of shares and fitness in shape with a new OS? Is there a file I can download and install from a USB stick available?

I would if switch to 32 bit on the amount of RAM you have.  If the / 3 gb or less then change as another of more than 3.5 GB of RAM will not be used in 32-bit for WIndows 32 bit.

If you still want to change you can clean reinstall Windows 7 in 32 bits, or if you have already activated the Windows 10 Upgrade on this PC, is able to clean reinstall Windows 10 Upgrade with any other version and it should turn back on.  Get the media here: creation of installation Windows Media 10

If you want another week or there will be a new Windows 10 fall update is scheduled for November release of which will have all the latest drivers and patches included and also has a feature to directly activate upgrade with the product key of Windows 7 where the previous update had not been activated.

In any case, I clicked on the install Adobe on the taskbar button and close the window.

The note system performance then continued with about 10 steps ahead after 15 minutes. All well done.

So the trick is to close a window of the installation components that get stuck. Hope this helps some Toshiba laptop users out so hard.

A suggestion from bits to the team of Toshiba laptop:
The full screen of the Recovery Wizard is good to hide technical details from users. However, if hang in some components, like the Adobe component I've seen, this will be confusing and advises current defects if the end-user following some in the thread above, legacy because of some missing components and the wrong configuration. It is preferable that the wizard of recovery to exit full screen at a given time, or the wizard handles error scenarios better.
