switching graphics cards

I recently bought a laptop DV6-6154NR.  I am running Win7 on it. It has two built in graphics cards.

Intel and Radeon.  I see how I can spend program that uses different graphics driver.

I see no difference in the display when I pass.

My question is, how do we know what graphic display is actually used?

Thank you

Glad it works,

can you do this an accepted solution? I've will conduct research on the map but can't promise if I can get to it.

How can I activate the graphic card automated switching, where the system chooses to use the Nvidia card or integrated graphics card Intel?

I recently bought a Lenovo Y580 and installed a 120 GB SSD with a new installation of Windows 7. I downloaded and installed all the drivers from the Lenovo site, but am still unable to use the button "graphics" on the laptop; the button that is near the right speaker. I take this means that my Y580 does not switch between Intel and Nvidia.

You must press the button revoery before startup to enter Bios MEMU. It forms that you want to move down the list of Configuration. can search for graphics device. Make sure that it is on the graphics of swichable instead of the graphics card UMA for the active card Nvidia graphics.

Also in the Nvidia control panel you need to peak each program individually so that the switchable graphics will work on INtel or Nvidia.

Hello, I believe that the answer lies in another thread that they keep as a «sticky' at the top of this section "Display/video"

so here's the link to that thread, that you shows how to download the right driver BIOS and graphics, then how you set it manually in the BIOS for fixed, if that's what you want.

  • Alienware 17 - integrated graphics not detected in BIOS - cannot switch to the integrated graphics card

As the title says, I own an Alienware 17, bought around November of 2013. My NVidia GeForce GTX 770 M runs like a champ. But I can't go to the integrated graphics card (should be Intel HD Graphics 4600). I tried the Fn + F5 (several times). It is said that it is "optimal". Tried with the laptop plugged in and not plugged. I looked in Device Manager and there is only a single index card (NVidia) view. I then booted the BIOS and it said: 'Integrated Graphics - undetected. " I have the latest BIOS version available on the support Web site.

Don't know what to do at this point. I should have integrated and discrete, but only discreet is detected. I want to be able to switch to the Intel card, so that I can mess around with things like the Intel WiDi and want to also DO NOT perform my NVidia card all the time, and because I'm not playing games all the time.

Any ideas? All support staff out there who can help out me?

Cub... I think I might have answered my own question... My laptop has the option to display 3D 120 Hz. For this reason, 'Optimus' technology is not available (I think I say this right), and so I can't go to the graphics card Intel because of the way the 3D display is wired. There is a YouTube video that I saw what explains the all (link below).

"Alienware 17 with 120 Hz 3D display has no integrated graphics":

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=RJ3IRvCkllg

Then... Not sure that I'm too happy with Dell right now. One of the advantages that I looked forward had to be able to change maps and play with some of the features of the Intel WiDi map in particular. When I bought the laptop, I was not made aware that I would lose the functionality of upgrade of the screen to get the 3D option. Would have been nice to know, so that I know what are the trade-offs.

    Hello

Most graphics cards require BIOS version 8 HP.  BIOS version 8 is listed under Windows 8 for your particular model PC.  While the BIOS version 8 will probably support your new graphics card, you might find yourself stuck that Windows 7 will not work using the UEFI. You can install BIOS and then turn on legacy mode and see if the card works. However, if the card is a single card UEFI well then you are in a situation of 'catch' 22 In this case, you would have the BIOS later and W7 should always work in legacy mode.  Even with this BIOS update running in mode inherited that there could be some risk that W7 will not work.  Once you update the BIOS there is no coming back.

    Another thought.

There are no Windows Ultimate 10 version if upgrading to W10 (free upgrade) would you put on the professional version W10. I do not know if that would suit your needs. However, if you have a place in the upgrade by using the W10 iso DVD or flash drive then you could extract the W10 license key so that your could do a clean install with legacy mode turned off in the BIOS that puts your PC into UEFI mode.

You have a few risks to consider.  In addition, HP has not posted the W10 for your PC drivers.

What would I do?  I'd go for it, but then my wallet could be deeper than yours.

    Hi Dell Community

I recently bought a laptop Dell Inspiron 5521.

I opened a video game and noticed it was a little laggy on high detail settings (Dragon Age 2), I went in the configuration of the game applet and discovered that I could choose between two options for my display driver (both options are 4000 Intel when it comes to be the dedicated AMD graphics card).

I opened the CCC and allowed the game to use the high performance ~ ~ ~ didn't WORK

I tried to disable the card intel 4000 in Device Manager ~ ~ ~ MADE things WORSE

I opened DXDIAG ~ ~ ~ for some reason, the two '1' and '2 'sign up as Intel HD 4000 display

There is no settings in the menu of the BIOS to disable the Intel HD 400

I really want to play this game in detail using my dedicated graphics, ALL SOLUTIONS?

  • Laptop will not switch to the AMD Radeon graphics card

Hello.  I just bought a Dell Latitude 3540 on 10/01/13 (yesterday) and everything but the graphics go a lot.  Whenever I check the graphics that are used, it says "Intel HD Graphics 4400" instead of 'AMD Radeon HD 8850 M' as it should be.  I installed the Catalyst driver and software and plugged in, but also put everything for maximum performance in the config of switch graphics.  I EVEN USED PC RESET.  NOTHING WORKS.  Help, please.

    Hello

What is the version of the Catalyst driver and software you use?

The option to switch between graphics depends on the version of the installed Catalyst driver. I suggest you follow the article given below for further assistance.

  • The switching in an Alienware 14 graphics card

Is it possible to change the graphics card in an Alienware 14 after I bought it?

Dell doesn't have this option. To get the GeForce GTX 765 m, you'll need to buy the card mother AW14-R1 and have a local technician do the work. Call 1-800-357-3355 Dell spare parts and ask for prices and availability, or perform an Internet search for the 5-digit number. Motherboard numbers are related to the operating system.

    Momthetechie, welcome to the forum.

If your motherboard has UEFI , you should be able to use the video card.  However, you might have to upgrade the power supply (PSU), also.  The current PSU is only 300W.  Most newer video cards require at least 400W to work properly.

  • Drawing objects in Firefox and Thunderbird after installing the graphics card MSI R6850 of AMD

After installing the new graphics card (MSI R6850 CYCLONE 1GD5 PE/OC), pilots the latest on Windows XP 32-bit, I frequently meet with Mozilla Firefox 8.0 and Mozilla Thunderbird 8.0 drawing artifacts. The problem presents itself as a horizontal black bands or model checker color scattered. It occurs especially when the child (like the Download Manager) passage of another application for Firefox or Thunderbird or when to switch to a window for Firefox. It affects the entire application or only some rectangular (region clearly who was redesigned due to change of application). Then repaint (such as switch between Firefox tabs) usually solves the problem. This is just visual, the behavior is not affected. The problem never happened to any other application so far. Any ideas? Any who have experienced the same problem? Thanks in advance.

  • Qosmio G40 - update graphics card

    Hello world

I know it works has already answered in October 2009, but I have a few not 100% course info on the upgrade of the graphics cards. Now I have a qosmio g40-10 with nvidia geforce 8600 with 512 video memory. Because this card is purely not enough for the high-end gaming today, I want to update at least 1 GB of video memory. Like many people here, I tried to find some information online but its just waste of time. I asked in each PC store in my town this topic and 60% of them responded that it is possible, but it will cost you so.

They could not tell exactly witch card should take but logically it will be nvidia series that were used by Toshiba manufacter, what I'll do I will find some young model of Toshiba nvidia cards and will just try to adapt it. Logically that laptops Toshiba chassy is almost the same, of course mounting screws can be different, but ultimately, it's a project. The only problem is the motherboard, I heard that this motherboard is unable to accept certain graphics cards.

If you have some info on this please let me know.
Also different (highest card) coz, there will be cooling problem so if you have ideas to solve heating, please share it with me.
    Thanks much adrian

    Hello Adrian

I guess that you know very well that the possibilities of upgrade on mobile units are very limited; especially GPU or CPU upgrade and laptop manufacturers offer don t any kind of support. Because of the design specific common problem for mobile units is cooling system. More performance means more heat and more heat, compromised of portable computer hardware switch or damage.

Manufacturers of portable don t support cela and don offers t any helpful info about it. GPU upgrade in my opinion is not a good idea. OK, you can do with your laptop that you want and play a little bit, but I'm afraid that your project is too risky and will not end with success of m.

If you need a more powerful computer I think it's time for the new portable computer with more powerful hardware. What you think so.

  • Question graphics card

    Hello all;

I have a HP Slimline 3600t I bought last year. I checked after my video and graphic has been slow real my card 256 MB GeForce 9300 GE fan was unusable. I don't know how long it has been, but I also noticed how the material was hot when I opened the file. I went to put a small house until the hardrive fan until I can get a new card that made the PC now works like a charm! My question is, I checked the part number for this graphics card, but there will be no problem if I switch to the GeForce 9500 with 512 MB card? This part also shows like that can be included with the model 3600t, but I wanted to be sure that I have not put anything else if I made this purchase.

    Thank you-

    Hello

You should be fine with the GeForce 9500GS but probably not with the 9500GT Geforce that requires more power.  Your Power Supply Unit is rated 180W which will restrict graphics cards, you can choose.

    Best wishes
