symbol ban 2008 iMac

On Friday, I was with my iMac and it started to go very slowly. I tried to stop but interfered application and the computer appears to be frozen. I forced the closing down. I tried to start up and I get the prohibitive symbol. Safe mode does not nor do recovery mode. I've tried resetting the pram and it did not help. What is going on? What can I do?

You did not provide any essential info to help you.  What operating system do you have?  What version?  iOS is not for computers.  Which iMac model do you have?

If you reinstall the operating system, and then do it.

  • Symbol ban after new installation on new SSD

    Hello

A few months ago, my original HD failed (MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid 2012)).

I decided to replace it myself with a SSD instead.

the thing is, every time you start, I get the symbol ban for a few seconds until sometimes for hours, but once the start is done - everything works perfectly.

tried to replace the disc SSD 3 times now - the same result after each new installation of recovery of the internet.

Currently, using SanDisk Ultra II 240 GB.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

The symbol you see means that the computer did not find a bootable system disk and sometimes occurs when you have not set up a default startup disk. Go to System Preferences, and then select Startup disk. You should see your SSD in the window. Select it after you unlock the preferences.

The strange thing is that, if this is your problem, it must be solved in seconds - certainly not hours. This would suggest there is something more complex. You say that you tried to replace the SSD 3 times. Different drives? Different manufacturers?

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results in your response. • iTunes on my 2008 iMac won't work.

When I try to open iTunes on my 2008 iMac, it opens for 1 second then closes the window and the program. Should I maybe just consider to Apple?

Your profile suggests that you are always under Snow Leopard, which was released more than six years ago.

I suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of OS X (El Capitan, OS X 10.11.3).)  Then you will be able to run the latest version of iTunes (12.3.2), which cannot be run on Snow Leopard.

  • 2008 iMac can't be repaired?

The power supply on my 2008 iMac has not so I set an appointment for the Genius Bar.  I'm here and the 'genius' looks at it and says that the 2008 iMac is obsolete and Apple doesn't even make for him more.  The iMac is not my main computer but it has always worked well, my children used, and new, it's a very expensive machine.  Now I find myself with a computer that can not be repaired because the parts Apple are the property.

I'm more than a little irritated.  Planned obsolescence is one thing but forced?  Seems to have no option here.  With a PC, I could continue to power from any computer, store and buy a power supply but with the iMac, I apparently need to buy a new machine every six or seven years.  Given how much why should more expensive mac on PC, I buy a Mac?  I type this comment on my MacBook Pro and get stuck thinking, well I'll have to replace it in a few years too.

Finally, if my machine is obsolete and it will not affect Apple, why did let drag me the thing into an Apple store?  My machine is connected to the appointment is not as if I was walking with a surprise.  Why I was even able to make the appointment?

Why not check out this site:

    https://www.iFixit.com/

Or find an authorized service provider and ask them. I wouldn't bother with Apple at this point.

I think that Apple is officially supported hardware for about 5-7 years (they have to support it for three for anyone with the Applecare). I must say though: you have a computer almost 8 years - I consider myself lucky to have one last that long because: Unfortunately, anything electronic is virtually obsolete the day walk out you of the store with her.

  • Installation DVD does not recognize my internal HD on a 2008 iMac

I'm looking for suggestions here.  My 94 year old mother has used the iMac 2008 8.1 for internet e-mail.  We needed to upgrade its OS X 10.5 to be able to upgrade to a new version of safari to access some banking sites.  I upgraded the memory.  Sister has an iMac with OS X 10.6.2 Installation/restore dvd 2010.  I went to update.  I have caused the initial problem because after reading info seemed I could create a second partition on the hard drive of 250 GB and use Time Machine to back up before preceding.  See not all the warnings on the addition of the partition. (Yes, if I had not forgotten my external hard drive I should not try that, but I forgot it.)  Things seemed to make the partition, but time machine bogged down and hung up.  After trying many things, I found myself deleting and resetting on the internal extended (journaled) using HD, recreating a single partition using the guidelines GUID, thinking that I could just do a clean reinstall.  BUT, while I can check/fix delete etc the internal disk utility when HD started from my external hard drive so I boot from the OS install DVD it does not recognize the internal HD.   ? ? ?   Gives cannot update this post Mac.  If I run the Setup from the beginning of the disk upward once again, no offers to go to in the installation program.  I can access everything in THE RUNOFF when the post boot drive.

Why THE works on the internal HD of the post start up (which was made with the 10.6.2 installation DVD), but not when started to leave the DVD left me puzzled. The DVD is not just see the it.  When it is started from the DVD with the external drive, he sees very well.   You are looking for ideas, thank you in advance.  By the Way the machine had no problem before starting this :) live and learn!

If I understand what you were doing, you tried to use a Mac installation disc and to update another Mac? Is this correct?

If I am not mistaken, which simply does not work. The installation provided with Mac discs won't work on another Mac, the original installation discs are machine-specific.

  • Updated 2008 iMac to El Capitan

I use my iMac 2008 primarily for mac mail and google. It will work well with El Capitan?

    # 2 GB of RAM, it is barely enough to load the OS X. Upgrade RAM up your machine to be held. Despite this, you'll be pushing account bound to the CPU that is in it. You can make it work, more or less, but it's really time to upgrade your hardware soon.

  • Failed Windows 7 install, 2008 iMac running 10.11.4: not found disk bootable

I'm having a lot of bad to install Windows 7 on an iMac of 2008 running the latest OS X El Capitan, 10.11.4. The exact procedure followed is based on this Apple Support document, with a few changes:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT205016

The first change is to the Info.plist of Boot Camp, three changes to account for what is a former Mac:

    (1) adding a string version of the ROM of the Mac: < string > IM81.00C1.B00 < / string >

    (2) change < key > PreUSBBootSupportedModels < / key > < key > USBBootSupportedModels < / key >, i.e. delete "Pre".

    (3) addition of the string that identifies this Mac: < string > iMac8, 1 < / string >

Running Boot Camp Assistant again, I can then tick the three boxes available in select tasks, according to the screen shot in the article cited above.

WININSTALL flash player is created, a legitimate Windows 7 ISO 32-bit file.

The second amendment concerns points 8 to 11 of the article cited above, which mentions that the following files/folders should be added the flash player:

    $WinPEDriver$ (file)

    AutoUnattend.xml

    BootCamp (folder)

Supposedly the correct support for this iMac 2008 software is as follows, 4.0.4033...

    https://support.Apple.com/kb/DL1630?locale=en_US

... but after you download it and unzip, I'm not find the required files/folders.

If I dig around on this other page, looking for other Boot Camp downloads where these files/folders may be present:

    https://support.Apple.com/downloads/Bootcamp

Curiously, some of these downloads contain the three files/folders, and some do not. So I download the latest software from Boot Camp, 5.1.5722 support:

    https://support.Apple.com/kb/DL1836?viewlocale=en_US & local = en_US

I find all three files in this download and drag them to the flash drive. The entire list of files on the drive WININSTALL is now as follows:

I make new Boot Camp Assistant, i.e. the third box in the screen select tasks, the installation process.

The installation will stop when the Mac re-lance himself. The following message appears on the screen on a black background:

"No boot device - insert boot disk and press any key".

I tried this procedure several times and with different flash drives, with the same result.

Restart the Mac with the button shows 'alt' that the normal Mac hard disk is available for selection, but no Windows disk is present. If the same partition?

I'm puzzled. Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

Bootcamp Info.plist changes do not work on 2008 models, because there is no support to boot from USB MBR. You will need to burn the W7 ISO on a physical DVD and then use the last checkbox to install Windows. Keep the USB key to install the drivers for BC when finished.

The reason why you can't find the files in 4.0.4033 is $WinPEDriver because $ is loaded when the front boot from USB on specific models that take into boot USB. 2012 models supports USB or DVD connection facilities.
