Sync iPod very old classic in my musical library of MacBook Pro

My husband has an old, classic iPod (remember the year), and I would add my iTunes library (songs) for what is already on the iPod.   When I connected the iPod to my 2011 MacBook Pro, set iTunes to update iPod to the latest version of the software, but then do not synchronize.  When I plug my iPod to more recent (2011) model, it automatically up-to-date with my iTunes library.  Why don't the old iPod to date as well?

Thank you

Katrina

If the iPod is currently to synchronize with your husband iTunes library, it doesn't syncs automatically with your (different) iTunes library, unless you change the association so that it syncs with your iTunes library.  The iPod can only using automatic synchronization ( synchronization music setting) with one iTunes library at a time.  If you change the binding so that the iPod will sync with your iTunes library, content current iPod is deleted and replaced with the content in your iTunes library.

To do this, select the iPod in iTunes (click on its button on the device on the horizontal bar) to show the settings screen in the iTunes window.  The side left (in the sidebar), under settings, click music.  Right, parameters of music on the iPod screen.

NOTE: All of the songs from the iPod that are not in your iTunes library will be lost.  If there is a problem, thanks for posting

Check the box to Sync music.  This enables automatic sync and combines the iPod to your iTunes library.  If your library iTunes music can fit on the iPod, you can choose the option synchronize entire music library.  Then click apply.  iTunes syncs your music to the iPod, by replacing its existing content.  Further, iTunes automatically keeps your iPod 'in phase' with your iTunes music library when you connect (or click sync , if already connected).

  • My iPod classic is synced to my old pc windows how can I send it to my new apple mac - all my music on iPod is uploaded to this topic via ads and bought on iTunes?

My iPod classic is currently synced on my old windows pc - how can I send it to my new Apple Mac without losing any of my music.  All my music is downloaded from the ads?

If you still have your old PC in working condition, with its iTunes library intact, not to use your iPod to transfer the library to your new Mac.  You transfer your data from user (not just your iTunes data) directly from the old PC to the new Mac.

There is an automated system called Migration Wizard, if your system meets the requirements.  Be sure to have a backup of the data.

    Migration of Windows v1.0.5.7 Assistant

Alternatively, for the part of iTunes, this paper outlines how do it manually, using an external drive.

Manage and backup your iTunes media library - Apple Support

To summarize, the first step is to make sure that all your iTunes data is stored in the iTunes folder ("consolidate"), which is located in your folder music user account.  The second step is to copy this folder iTunes on an external drive, to create a backup.  The third step is to restore that backup the iTunes on your new Mac folder.  Launch iTunes to use data from the old PC iTunes; It looks like iTunes running on your old PC, complete with all the songs (and other types of media) and data, such as reading lists, notes, play count, etc.

Your iPod continues to synchronize with it, because for the iPod, it's the same iTunes library (on another computer).  If you using your iPod as a data source, you add your old data to an iTunes library on Mac.  It is NOT complete.  The iPod sees it as a different iTunes library.  iPods are not designed to be your data from iTunes backup.

However, IF the iPod is now the only place where your songs are stored (and you have no other backup), thanks for posting back.

  • Transfer old iPod Classic (80 GB) music

I have an iPod 80 GB Classic (Windows format) I used to use in tandem with a PC I have no more.

Now I have a new iMac and I want to transfer all the music on iPod (60 GB worth) on this new iMac. (I don't have the old PC longer, incidentally.)

When I plug the iPod on the new iMac with open iTunes, it is of course said that it's put Windows shaped and apparently not give me options to easily transfer this music.

Is it possible for me to do this?

As you move from your Windows PC to Mac, the iPod can be formatted for Windows.  A Mac can read and write the disc format 'FAT' of Windows, for Mac can use an iPod formatted for Windows.

There is no option in iTunes to transfer songs from iPod to computer. By its design, sync iTunes participates generally in one direction, computer, iPod.  The exception is the songs purchased from the iTunes Store (because iTunes can check the property).  However, there are methods and third party utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like 'the ipod transfer', you should get some useful links, including a CNET article on the subject.

Once the files of the song on the drive to your Mac, you can add them to the Mac iTunes library.  After that your iTunes library has all the songs, set up automatic synchronization for the iPod (which will delete the current content).  If you want it to be formatted for Mac instead of Windows BEFORE synchronizing, you can do a restore of the iPod using iTunes.  This will erase the iPod (and format it for Mac), reinstall the software and set it to default settings.  THEN, set up automatic synchronization.

NOTE: The next time you go to a new computer, you must copy the folder full iTunes (the one in the music user account folder) on an external drive.   Which copy all your iTunes data, including the library of database files and media.  On the new computer, restore these data; iTunes on the new computer will look like iTunes on your old computer, with all the songs and other media, including playlists, sides of songs and play the County.  OR, you can use the automated migration of the Mac tools to transfer your data from old Mac to new Mac user (including the iTunes data) or your archive Mac Time Machine backup again.

iPods aren't supposed to be your iTunes backup.

  • I have a music library of about 7.6 GB.  I have an old nano iPod which has a capacity of 8.0 GB. When I try to sync my library on the nano it accepts only about 1.68 GB.  How can I fix?

I have a library of about 7.8 GB of songs iTunes music.  I have an iPod nano to 8.0 GB.  When I try to sync my music on the iPod the IPod does accept that about 1.68 GB.  I tried to restore and re-synchronization-the same results.

    JEB

Are all your songs stored locallyin your computer's iTunes library?  iTunes cannot sync the songs that are accessed by streaming from Apple servers ("iCloud").  To check, find a song that does not sync your iPod to your iTunes library.  Do a right click and get information.  On the tab of the file Info window, browse to the location.  This site shows a path of the file to the location the file of that song on your drive, or should I say iCloud?  Expressed the iCloud, download it.

If this is the General reason why much of the music library will not sync to the iPod, you can select the pieces all affected at the same time, right-click on the selection and download.  Once all the music files are stored locally, they sync to iPod.

If this is not the cause of your problem, thanks for posting back with all additional details, such as any error message that appears when you attempt to sync.

  • If I had to restore my music library after a computer failure, if I sync my iPod I lose the music?

I had to restore my music library after a computer failure, but not all of my library was reatored. If I sync my iPod what do I lose music? I heard that

You can not sync music between the two if the iPod has iTunes has no music. I don't want to lose my entire library which is at this point on the iPod.

If you "restore" your iTunes library by adding your songs (and other content) to a new iTunes library (instead of restore full of backup iTunes library), your current iTunes library is treated as a different iPod iTunes library.  iPods can use Auto-Sync with one iTunes library at a time.  If you have set up the synchronization with your current iTunes library, the existing content of the iPod (from the old iTunes library) is deleted and replaced with the contents of your current iTunes library.  All the songs from the iPod that are not on your iTunes current library will be lost.

By design, iTunes sync is generally in one direction, from iTunes to iPod library.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer files of song from iPod to computer (with the exception of songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are methods and third party utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like 'ipod music transfer', you should get a few links (including a CNET article on the subject).

Once the song on your disk files, add them to your current iTunes library.  After the confirmation of your iTunes library has all of your songs, you can configure synchronization with the iPod.

iOS9 on a mobile device requires iTunes 12.3 or higher, which in turn requires a computer running OSX 10.8.5 or higher.  Update of the system only checks the updates for the current version of the system you run, but that itself can be updated.  It may or may not be possible to upgrade your computer to the system requirements. Find your computer on the web site of http://www.everymac.com model and near the bottom of the specification of the system section, he will tell what versions of the operating system, it is able to run. If you can not run a newer system, you will not be able to sync this phone to your current computer. If she can run 10.8.5 or higher, you can either buy a download for Apple OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion code online, or you can try to install the free El Capitan OSX 10.11.  El Capitan can run slower on older machines and require the additional purchase of RAM.  Making a big jump in versions of system is also more likely to affect the old software.

I checked and installed new updates, but it is not always sync. I restarted iTunes and computer, but it is not always sync. I ran a diagnostic on the device and it showed that it was operating normally.

The iPod must be configured to synchronize automatically.  If this is not the case, click Sync does not synchronize no matter what.

Select the iPod in iTunes, so that you see the iPod settings screen in the iTunes window.  Along the left side of the window, in the sidebar, under settings, click on music.  To the right, you will see a settings screen of the iPod music , where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.

NOTE: All the songs on the iPod that are NOT in your iTunes library (on the computer) will be lost.  If all the songs are in your iTunes library, no problem.

At the top of the window, check the box to Sync music.  This enables automatic synchronization.  Below, select the option to synchronize library of ensemble music, if you want to 'all' in your music library to sync.  At the bottom, click on the apply button.

From now on, when you make changes to your iTunes music library (like add new songs or update a playlist), iTunes automatically updated the iPod with the same changes when you connect (or click sync , if already connected).
