System of records of documents & settings migrated to HD external backup. Is no longer on the C: drive. How to restore to the C: drive?

PC switched on and I tried to open outlook.  Received the message:
The path specified for the file G:\Documents and Settings\Ray Bush\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\archive.pst is not valid.
Known as the G: drive is a disk external hard Lacie to be used for back up, although it has been used to store data of previous Windows XP/Office 2007 extracted from the HD system crashed.
When the above message has been received, the G: drive was not connected. Once it has been connected, archive.pst became available.
It seems that the Documents & Settings folder system has migrated to the external hard drive backup and is therefore no longer on the C: drive, or at least I can see it there.  Can I just drag and drop the folder Documents and Settings of the G: drive system into the c: (about 750MB)?
How to restore to the C: drive without doing something drastic is going to lose the settings and configuration?  Why what happened?  Can I prevent that from happening in the future? Is there a conflict between Lacie 500 Gb external SSD and internal Intel 520 Series 120 GB SSD SATA3?

Hello

Win 7 and Win 8, Documents and Settings is a folder hidden, locked, unlike XP.

Documents, videos, photos and etc are now included in the C:\Users\User name, and that's where your installed programs will send them.

You can change their default location, and your software usually sends to the new location because of the way it is redirected.

I don't think anything has moved physically now that I re-read your post.

You say the keyword but... it has been imported into the new perspective.

When a program is something important, is usually not a physical copy of the file. It basically accesses its location of origin, as if the imported file is just a shortcut to the original.

Your Outlook was simply looking for the file to its actual location through the 'shortcut '.

Most all programs have an OPTIONS, PREFERENCES, or SETTINGS button somewhere.

Search through the links at the top of File, Edit, help, etc. It should be in one of these if ut doesn't have its own icon... a gear, for example.

  • Why can't I access My Documents & Settings folder?

I understand from reading some of the forum messages that Documents & Settings (as well as a few other folders) are now the junction points. However, according to the instructions of a program plug-ins for Photoshop, I bought, I have to install some files in a folder which should be in the Documents & Settings. Here, specifically:

    C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings
So since I can't enter D & S, where the devil to put these files now in order to get this program to work? I paid a little money for these plug-ins and I'll be so frustrated if I can't make them work.  How can I now in the Adobe folder which is D & S (which I can not enter) and Application data (which I can not enter in)?
    :( Help, please.

  • File system for FRA and external backups

    Oracle 11g R2.

The FRA drive is formatted using Linux x 83 put on Diskgroup + FRA system.

Backups are stored outside on an ext3 file system.

Suppose now the database gets completely crashed and I need to recover by continuing external backups.  I will copy the external backups to the + FRA disk and then perform the recovery from there.

My question is, given that external backups are on ext3 file system, while the FRA is the Oracle ASM filesystem, there will be a problem for the use of the file systems of the two difference?

    Thank you

    To summarize the issue:

In my system, the database will be on ASM disk group + DATA (disk1 disk2).

I will use another disk, disk3 (ext3 file system) for FRA, to organize data files backups and multiplexed logs (archive logs, online newspapers and control files).

Earlier you said "I'll use the + FRA (ASM disk group) for the fast recovery area that holds that archiving multiplexed logs, recovery online logs, and control files.»  Nothing else. »

Now, I need one more place to hold the copy of the multiplexed logs.

Wouldn't not on the same + (ABOVE)?  Alternatively, use a disk full-fledged, disk4 (ext3 file system)?

    Thank you

    Scott

First of all, the reason for multiplexing online redo logs and control files is not the same as that of multiplexing archivelogs. Do it online and the control file are actually a part of the database.  The database will not work without them.  This is why it is so important to have multiplex.  Archivelogs, on the other hand, are part of your backup strategy.  The database itself really doesn't care if you have any archivelogs at all.  The archivelogs multiplexing is much less common.  I have never multiplexed mine, but I do not have a task that runs every hour to copy any newly created on a server off-site.

If your database is on ASM, at least a control file and a member of each group of redo log must be in ASM.  Technically, is not having to be, but it's really foolish not to do so.  Where to put the second copy?  Probably several schools of thought on this.  If your FRA is on ext3, so it seems a simple decision... a FRA copy, a copy in its default location in ASM.

  • Transfer of application data (in the XP of Document settings) to Vista

    • I just got the new Dell with Vista and wanted to copy the mail Thunderbird profile (contain all previous emails) which was located in the Application Data folder (in Document settings) of my previous XP on the new computer Vista. Of course, it is very important for me to get Thunderbird running in the new PC. I can't locate the Application Data folder in Vista to do. Is that someone can help me to locate the location of the "Application Data" folder in Vista or maybe new name of the folder that the Thunderbird profile is run in Windows Vista?

Application data is located in C:\Users\Change Data.  You may need to show hidden and system files go to start / Control Panel / folder Options / View / and check the button to see the system and hidden files.  I don't know if this is where Thunderbird is headed as I am not familiar with this program.  Please post if it does not help and I will refer you to a forum where they can potentially help you with the installation of Thunderbird and to transfer old data at the same time so what is expected here does not work.

Your best bet to transfer files and settings from XP to Vista is to use Easy Transfer.  You will need to re - install Thunderbird and all your other programs as there is no way to transfer programs from one computer to another (even with 3rd-party programs) without the help of an upgrade installation (which is not possible in this case).  Here are the procedures: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Migrating-Vista-using-Windows-Easy-Transfer.html and here is another article that may be useful (it covers more than a simple easy transfer but if you scroll down the article you will come to this article and it is very informative): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748915 (WS.10) .aspx.

    I hope this helps.

  • Can not unlock the files in Documents & Settings folder on can I 7

Windows 7 won't let me edit the security permissions in the folder Documents & settings even with admin privileges, so I can open it with the file.  Any action that I am trying just reminds me of the change owner screen that says I don't have permission to view the access settings.  Never can get to the window to actually change the permissions.  I just did a clean reinstall of the system because of a problem.  Access permissions were no problem until I did the re-install.

You're not locked: this file does not actually exist in Windows 7.  But backward compatibility to old programs that look for this name, they put a redirect (called a symbolic link) in place.  So, it looks like a folder, but it is not really a record at all.

    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry

    Windows Vista forward: C:\Users\Jerry

They were replaced by a smaller folder 'Users' of a single word, but apart from the name change, it's the same folder.  Again once the 'Documents and Settings' you see is not really a file, it's just a redirect of compatibility so old programs that await the long name will not crash when used on Windows Vista/7 from.

PS. You should not even SEE this redirect normally link, it shows that if you go to Folder Options and turn on the 'display protected system files and folders' and 'display the hidden files and folders '.  That is why the link is kind of ghost and gray, because it is a hidden link junction, not a real folder.

  • OfficeJet 6500 has more advanced Document settings

I want a full explanation of ALL the options on the 'advance Document Settings' for this printer.

There is no help.  The manual gives no explanation.  The choices are NOT intuitive and they interact strangely.

Routine change color to black or gray scale requires 10 strokes and mouse clicks, because the system is designed.  I suggest that no competent supervisor approved this nightmare.

I note that there is a way to change the use parameters and call them 'default' but no same way know what were the values by default when the device has been delivered.

Experimenting with the settings is a slow process.  Even if it is true that some are obvious, there are 22 different possible selections in the Advanced Options dialog box.

I note that in the FAQ there are several threads from users of the problems when you try to print with cartridges empty color installed.  I keep my color cartridges filled: I really want to use them.  I don't want to use when only black is fine.

And I saw that you sell two different four colors of ink refill packages, a 'standard' and an 'XL' one to 2.5 times the black ink of 'Standard '.  The 'standard' black cartridge is the same size as the "XL" a greater than Cyan, Magenta and yellow ones, which means to use only black was originally planned.

Which tells me that your company should we want to print in black only, but just "neglected" to tell how to use them.  -What is has been to maximize sales of ink?

At the time, that I learned about computers, someone would have written an upgrade of the software and distributed to as many users that they could not reach.  You don't keep all our names, not you?

Years, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard were presented in a book, "in Search of Excellence".  This does not seem somethiing they would like as their company to be a part of.

If I understand correctly, you personally don't perceive, without assistance, disable applications quickly and generate "Congratulations" who believes someone means that we like the way we are treated.  Tell your boss to support you if necessary and you will get the appreciation.

    But NOT this time.

  • Settings stored locally in Documents & Settings

    Hello.

I remember reading a response when migrating to 1.5 in last year, you have to specify

    AddVMOption-dide.user.dir=G:\whateverdir in the *\ide\bin\ide.conf file *.

The Local Settings folder is a hidden folder.

    (1) if the file appears in the download (Tools menu or Ctrl + j) Manager, you can right-click and open the folder that contains access it directly.

  • Is it possible to remove my laptop from a domain and keep my desktop, documents, settings, etc.

I want to delete my phone of the domain that I currently part of and make it a stand alone PC. Thank you.

Once you remove the computer from the domain, the user profile that you use will not be available. However, you should be able to copy the majority of all the menus of programs, documents and other files, etc. to a new log-in.

    Copy a user profile (TechNet)

Let's say that you used to connect to MyDomain , using Christan as username. If you want to map network drives to the field to your laptop while under a local log-in (can be anything, even Christan) you should be able to as long provide you credentials for the domain user.

    User: \\MyDomain\Christan

According to the security of the domain, you may need to provide these credentials for things like the network printers, etc. as well.
