System restore failed: no changes made to the computer (Windows XP sp3)

Hello. When I use the system restore, the program looks good until you restart. Next, I get a Sys Res window that says simply "system restore was not entirely successful. No changes have been made to your computer. »

The help file repeated that the Sys res window.

I made sure that the system restore service is, in fact, running. Also the Message Center does not appear to give any errors related to the system restore.

I tried several restore points the past two days, including a checkpoint of the system.

The rest of my computer works like a charm, save a program that I really need work. I want to go back a few edits I made (which had nothing to do with the programs of bricks) to see if for some reason, it would work. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I understand that you use Norton or McAfee, but I stick my standard "System Restore does not" answer for you to read and meditate.

Microsoft suggests that if SR does not behave, sometimes it will behave if you start in Mode safe then give a whirl.  It could also be that your SR is reached, you must reinstall (you don't have to reinstall XP - only the part of SR).

Here you go:

What is your system brand and model?
What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which is the same Service as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..
What is the issue that you are experiencing that you think that the system restore will be remedied (or you are just convenient)?  Remember that the system restore is not a time machine.

Have you ever used the system restore to restore your system in the past?

Describe exactly what happens when you try to perform a system restore and the error messages you see which indicates that it does not work.

Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.

For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.
Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.
System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.
That can leave you with your problem of unspecified origin that you hope the system restore will fix (using a system restore is usually not equivalent to fixing the problem though).
Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.
Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.
No matter what you use for protection against malware, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:

  • Windows XP SP3: Unable to start, System Restore cannot drag and drop ALL the files/folders on the desktop and applications, many unable to start, services cannot search, cannot copy or transfer the any files folders...

    After a recent power outage, my system has restarted with a weird and very common Windows problems range. The system boots fine, all my personal files/folders/apps are intact, have suddenly stopped almost all functions of applications, but many crucial functions of the Windows kernel. Everything seems to point to several Windows Services are unable to start (administrative tools on the start menu). I am running Win XP SP3 and that he was going to upgrade to Windows 7, but I wanted to backup everything in advance. As I have 29 000 hours on my C: drive and a lot of time invested in my system, files, and applications, I am extremely reluctant to risk losing my files and applications by performing any type of reinstalling Windows. Strangely, begin to almost all my apps and all my files are accessible for the most part, but I've lost the ability to drag and drop files, folders or items in a list within the applications COMPLETELY. I can't copy or paste anything, can't move the desktop icons (although I can create new files and folders). So at the moment I can't save anything or even a single file transfer to a hard drive on another storage medium. Immediate reaction: try safe mode and try the system restore safe mode has the same problems (likely due to the large number of system services that inexplicably refuses to start) and the system restore says an error window saying "system restore is not able to protect your computer at this time. try restoring the system running and restart again", which of course NEVER changes. It's the equivalent of getting a tire on your car in the middle of nowhere to find the spare tire flat and the missing Jack. I have used to be fanatical about the definition of the regular restore points, but now can not access them. I have backups of most of my personal files, but over years have lost most of the original installation CD for many of my applications (there are over 100 applications on my system) and I don't want to lose the file associations and architecture of directory tree that it took my so long to implement. I started with Win XP media center edition of first (circa 2004 or almost) and have migrated twice more of 3 hard disks and 2 computers. All this time (5 years of daily use), I have NEVER known so many malfunctions for as many Windows basic and vital functions at the same time. I tried a lot of 3rd party "windows fix - it / registry repair" apps, all have no effect. Everything I can speculate is there was some serious damage to the registry and have no idea how/why so many Services refuse to start. In MMC, more than half of the services actually start and run, the rest all give the error message "the service or dependencies is not start (error 1068).» In addition, very oddly, no. APPS or windows appear in the toolbar AT ALL, but the Quick Launch toolbar works very well, just like the tray button and start tasks (?! )!). If I reduce a window, it "disappears" (Nothing on the task bar), but I can restore it using the alt - tab keyboard shortcut to switch apps, so all applications/windows appear on the list of the Task Manager. A few apps is paralyzed bad, as the player windows media, itunes, etc. (I guess because the service windows audio can not not start), some won't start at all, but 90% of them work fine, except to try to copy or back up all files. I can create new files, however. I'm desperate to find a solution to repair XP3 Win WITHOUT losing my installed applications and files, before I try and switch to WIndows 7. Any help/suggestions/links/advice would be much appreciated. I'm an experienced user, but I've never met so many malfunctions based on the OS at a time. I, however, very painfully learned (years before that my system so complex) it's been almost a re-installation of Windows guarantees to lose my installed apps and files, the directory tree architecture associations.

    Help, please!

    I'll be honest with you - your message is so difficult to read that I don't bother to go through all that. Next time consider using white space, ball or points numbered, etc. to make your message more readable. I stopped reading after your first sentence and only scanned the rest quickly. I do not mean to hurt your feelings; just trying to help you get targeted answers you need for the future.

    The blackout has corrupted your Windows installation. Back up your data now. Since you have problems so much, it would be probably best is to remove the hard drive, put it in a USB drive enclosure and attach it to another computer to copy the data OR start the target with Linux Livecd such as Knoppix system and copy the data to an external hard drive. IOW, do not use the damaged windows to try to get your data.

    You can try a repair that will leave your programs and facility data intact, but with this widespread bribery, it is unlikely to work. However, it takes only a few minutes and is so worth a try. If the repair facility does not work there is nothing to do, but a clean install. And Yes, it will mean that over again.

    Consider buying a UPS to help prevent future damage by power outages. For a single computer, you should look for one in the area of $60 to 80. A more expensive UPS is not necessary. Another good disaster recovery strategy is to buy an external hard drive and Acronis True Image. You can image your system (and can make an incremental backup image so that your image is still current). You can apply your image and be back running that you were in relatively few minutes after a hard drive or Windows to fail.

    A virus that has infected operating system files or program files can be active in safe mode.

    Here are a few things to try:

    1. Because your computer has Norton Antivirus, you should disable Norton product Tamper Protection before you run the system restore.  This is not the same thing to disable Norton Antivirus.
    2. Demarrer start from a Windows Vista installation disc, select repair your computer and run System Restore from the System Recovery Options menu.

  • See the reflection of changes made to the model to a background thread

    Hello

    I have problems when I try a chart reflect changes to graph data that are made in a task or a background Service Thread. To simplify things, I tried to change the label of a button several times in a background thread using a task. Here is the code:

    SerializableAttribute public class JavaFXApplication7 extends Application {}

    Public Shared Sub main (String [] args) {}
    Launch (args);
    }

    @Override
    public void start (point primaryStage) bird Exception {}
    primaryStage.setTitle ("Hello World!");
    last button btn = new Button ("Hello world!");
    Root StackPane = new StackPane();
    root.getChildren () .add (btn);
    primaryStage.setScene (new scene (root, 300, 250));
    primaryStage.show ();
    Task changeTask = new Task() {}
    @Override
    protected Object call() throws Exception {}
    for (int i = 0; i < 5; i ++) {}
    btn.textProperty () .set (String.valueOf (i));
    System.out.println ("label together:" + String.valueOf (i));
    Thread.Sleep (1000);
    }
    Returns a null value.
    }
    };
    changeTask.run ();
    }
    }

    What I observe is that the scene is displayed, but with no button above, then I see five times out of the background task thread and then the button with the label of the iteration (4) final. Why the No button when the ChangeTask is on? I expect to see the button change its label every second for 5 seconds.

    Am I missing something? How could I achieve such behavior?

    Thank you
    Peter

    It's all wrong ;-)

    Let's run through some of the problems:
    1. you have not created a new thread, you use just the task on the JavaFX application thread. To create a new thread and run your task on it, something like that.

    Executors.newSingleThreadExecutor().execute(changeTask);

    2. Once you actually start the task running code in its own thread, you should not change the properties or the things that affect the scene graph. that is, do not do this in the thread calling method:

    btn.textProperty().set(String.valueOf(i));

    Instead, to get the dynamic multiple changes at different times of the task (for example, the partial results), either, bind the text property of the button to the message property or the progress of the task and update the message and progress in your feed or use the model of partial results documented here: http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/concurrent/Task.html

    3 looking at the JavaFX jira (http://javafx-jira.kenai.com) there is some bugs related to changing dynamically the data in a chart - it works most of the time, but there are occasions where it produces only results, therefore, even once you get your sample app button works, be careful when you try to apply this same method to the data in the chart.

    Why the No button when the ChangeTask is on?

    Because the task runs on the Thread of Application JavaFX and JavaFX system triggers not an impulse made until the Thread of the JavaFX Application was abandoned by user code.

    I advise to re-read the documentation for JavaFX 2.1 task:
    http://docs.Oracle.com/JavaFX/2/threads/jfxpub-threads.htm
    http://docs.Oracle.com/JavaFX/2/API/JavaFX/concurrent/task.html

    Published by: jsmith on May 2, 2012 14:06

    Another way to communicate the progress or the partial results of the user interface is the method of Platform.runLater, mentioned in the post from Daniel.

    Published by: jsmith on May 2, 2012 14:56

    I guess I should also mention that the method recommended (at least for me) to do this kind of treatment (for example, a loop with a quick update, followed by a period of constant of inactivity), would be to use a timeline instead of a task:
    http://docs.Oracle.com/JavaFX/2/API/JavaFX/animation/timeline.html
    http://docs.Oracle.com/JavaFX/2/animations/basics.htm#CJAFADFJ
