System Restore stopped working. Help?

Restoration of the system just stopped working. I restarted my computer this morning and when it started, my firefox sites are no longer there. Usually, a site happens that States, «well, it's embarrassing...» ", but he did not come and it seems I've lost my sites that I really needed... but don't remember their location. How can I get that back and how can I avoid this from happening? I use Firefox 4.0.1; Windows 7

  • System Restore stopped working on its own

I went to use the system restore as I have several times in recent years (suspecting slow start could be due to a corrupted system file). Don't work - get a message that the restoration could not be completed. Tried several restore points; same thing. Even though I knew that I do not turn it off, I checked to make sure, and no problems - it is turned on (the box disable is not checked). I even tried to create a new restore point, rebooted and tried to restore it. Same error message. Any help as to why it has stopped working or more importantly, how to run again, would be appreciated.

On a separate note, I still have my original duly paid for WinXP Pro disk and it wouldn't simply reinstall. But do not want to try if I'm having trouble getting activated. Did I meet a problem activating the latter since there is a record of me already activate this copy in 2008?

    Thank you.

    You are welcome Bert

We have confused the system restore with the recovery partition.

  • System Restore stopped restoring

System Restore stopped restore date, trying even to an earlier date of restoration... Require a recovery procedure or repair

    Hi Thomson,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. When was the last time it was working fine?
    3. What happens when you try to perform the system restore? You receive an error message?
    4. You have security software installed on the computer?

    Method 1

I suggest you temporary disable the security software installed on the computer and you try to run the system restore, check if it works.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then please refer to the article below and check if that helps.

Steps of troubleshooting for problems when you try to use the System Restore tool in Windows XP

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/302796

  • Key board does not work correctly when you type. Can not get the system restore to work properly, either

Tried to run the system restore, but it will not restore.

    Hey AnnEdelstein,

Because you can't get the system restore to work, perform a clean boot on your Windows XP system. The guide to that is here. Which follow, and then try again to Outlook. If it works to the minimum, then boot in the boot, analyse the whole system with your Antivirus and other security you have.
Also make sure you have the drivers for the keyboard. Search for the manufacturing of the keyboard, and they should have the drivers on their support site. I hope this has been helpful!
  • System restore not working not because of an error unspecified "buffer overload. How should I do?

My computer is working great and I was about to start a new project. I decided to organize my files first. I moved a file, went it was too large and would take too long, so I canceled the action. Somehow it deleted the file without warning. The computer has become slow. Tried three different restore points, no joy. I have a HP DV7 AMD Turion X 2, 64-bit Windows Vista (all important and recommended updates are installed).

    Hello

What was the location of the original file?

, Note 1: You can check the file into the trash and see if you find the file here.
Note 2: System Restore will not help recover data loss. You may need a third-party recovery tool that does.

Important: Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

Method 1: Because the system restore does not work, you can make the SFC scan and see if that helps:
SFC scanner. Analysis (sfc) System File Checker will Windows replace corrupted or missing system files on your computer.

    Scan sfc enforcement procedure:
    a. click Start, click all programs, click Accessories, right-click command prompt and select run as administrator of .
    b. click on continue or provide administrator credentials if prompted.
    c. in the type in the following command prompt window and press ENTER:

  • LaserJet CP1025 Color - PC system tray stops working whenever I have send a doc to the printer.

LaserJet CP1025 colour connected via direct USB for WINDOWS Vista 32-bit. I have the latest drivers, applications, and firmware for the printer, but the system tray stops working whenever I print a document. I tried this on Windows 7 via USB and get the same problem. Why does this happen?  I have another printer connected to the PC and I deleted all other HP drivers so that they don't interfere with the laserjet.

Thanks for the update. I also found another thread where a lot of troubleshooting has been done, but the problem persists or is fixed only to reproduce:

In addition, in the printer preferences, disable bidirectional printing, which is located by clicking right on pinter > choose Print Properties > click on the ports tab > uncheck bidirectional printing.

  • My keyboard does not work after a System Restore checkpoint to help get rid of a virus

My HP desktop computer has a virus that disabled McAfee, Avast and Malwarebytes.  I tried to solve the problem with the solutions found on the internet. My last attempt was to make a System Restore checkpoint.  The restoration was a success, but as soon as my PC restarted during the process of my keyboard don't work, when I went to enter my admin password.  The keyboard works fine in the recovery console, but not in safe mode or when I try a normal start, any advice would be appreciated.  Can a repair installation fix the problem?  What is the result of a corrupted registry of the virus? Do to restore the keyboard driver?

    Hello

    • What is the brand and model of the keyboard?
    • What is a wired or wireless keyboard?
You can view these methods if you are able to connect:
    Method 1:
You can check with the keyboard of the screen.
    Method 2:
I also suggest you try to update the drivers for the keyboard and check.

    Method 3:
You can also try different keyboard and check.
  • Windows Installer, iTunes, Windows Update, system restore not working under Vista

For the last few weeks, I deal with an inability to install new programs in Vista, and I was unable to open the system or iTunes restore not in Mode without failure.  I can't install the windows updates that were downloaded, nor my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-CS215J) will close properly.  I tried the system restore and used to let me open for a bit, but now iTunes that no longer works.  Occasionally, when my computer starts, it loads only for blacks and not go any further.  I run Kaspersky Anti-virus and used to run Spybot S & D (which is more open) and can't find anything that will solve this problem.  I can't properly download/install updates http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4 and delete the temporary files have not helped.  I don't know if I have a lemon of a computer or what happened, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello CWilson13,

Welcome to the Microsoft Windows Vista Forum.

I would like to ask you a few questions.

1 > what happen when you try to restore the system to normal mode?

2 > are you an error when you try to install updates from windows update?

3 > you get an error during the installation of other programs?

About the judgment issue please check if you are able to stop the laptop in safe mode correctly. If Yes, then we must verify the issue by performing a clean boot. Clean boot will help us understand if the problem is due to third and put into service or services.

The steps to do a clean boot is given in this link:

    www.support.Microsoft.com/kb/331796

You can also download the latest pack of windows install 4.5 and try to install programs.

The link for windows install 4.5 is:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en

Regarding the Itunes I suggest to uninstall Itunes and Quick time to the computer and download the latest being and install it after installing windows install 4.5.

I hope this helps. Please let me know about the results so that I can help you.

  • Explorer Windows crashed. No taskbar in safe mode. System Restore does not help you.

Hello. I have a problem with my Windows 7 desktop. A few days ago I can't run my iTunes, I searched it upward into the Apple tech support website and as said: uninstall, remove remaining files, delete the temporary folder. When you delete the temporary folder, I created another folder inside and moved the files to the folder I created. Some aren't s mobile because they were still running (active). I just deleted the folder that I created that contains the files that were inactive. When I turn it on yesterday (December 20) and log in to my user account (standard user), there's a pop window saying "windows Explorer crashed. Please close the program. We will notify you when a solution was found"I closed the window and waited. After that the window was closed, none of the desktop icons and the taskbar is visible. I waited for an hour and nothing happened. This also happens to other user accounts. I shut down the computer by using the Task Manager. I did the same thing today (21 dec) and it's the same thing. I tried the system restore, but it's always the same. I tried to boot in SafeMode as administrator to perform the clean boot. The taskbar is not visible. I pressed windows on the keyboard button and the taskbar appears. But the bar 'start' is no upward. I clicked on the Start button and the bar 'start' is not yet up. Help, please. Thank you.

    Hi Yan Sheng,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community and thanks for posting the question.

It appears from the description of the problem that you are unable to find the desktop icons and the taskbar on your computer. I understand the inconvenience.

    • How did you perform the system restore?

Let us perform the following methods and check if you are able to solve the problem.

Method 2: Restore the system of Windows recovery environment
If restarting fails, then restore the system using your restore disk system mode of the Windows recovery environment.

It can also refer to article and perform the steps mentioned there. You can skip the steps you have already performed as safe mode, boot etc.

  • system restore only works in safe mode?

Original title: why my system restore won't work except in safe mode?

I wonder why the system restore doesn't work on my system more except in Mode without failure. I tried to disable my anti-virus and run a program on my HP Pavilion system that corrects all files that may be lost or got corrupted. I made sure the system restore is still in Window\System | 32, I disabled updates, restarted the system, tried the restore without success then turned on automatic updates. I went to every possible useful article (not!) I can find on the web or Microsoft, and nobody seems to know what to do.  Yes, I can do a Safe Mode system restore, but I want it works on my system itself.  Any help out there?  Thanks for your time. So :)

Without knowing what anti-virus product and/or security you are running on your computer, it is virtually impossible to answer your question.

On the off-chance that you use Norton - Norton is known to cause problems with the system restore and this problem is addressed in the Symantec Support here page:

"Message:"restoration incomplete. " Your computer cannot be restored... "When you run Windows System Restore"

  • can not get the system restore to work

tried to get the system restore back to an earlier time. says I need to get rid of the useless programs.did who. I have also some icons for files, tools or downloads

In addition to what has been mentioned, consider the following:

First of all, what is the last time that the restoration of the system worked?

    Check your system restore settings:

    1. Click Start
    2. Right click on my computer
    3. Click on Properties.
    4. Click on System Restore
    5. If system restore is enabled, the column status of a player will show surveillance.
    6. If not, you can delete ""disable the system restore on all drives ' and then click on OK to activate "

Is both as soon as you try to restore to the most recent available? If so, unless you have specific reasons to keep the previous restore points, clean the rest, so that you have the most recent restore point on the left.

    To do this:

    1. run Disk Cleanup

    2. click on more Options

    3. under system restore, click cleaning of

    4. click on OK

This will free up the space. System restore needs a minimum of 200 MB of space to work.

    Hope this helps
