System won't let me save files where I want. It says Contact admiistrator. There is none. It's just me. How can I say this stupid OS I AM the administrator, so I can save things where I want to save them to?

You forgot to tell us where you try to save files. You may be trying to save them in directories protected like the root of %systemdrive%\lopr.txt, Program Files or Windows. After you protect the directories is common with many modern exploitation, not only Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems. It's a good thing if you think that whether or not.

What is not not the administrator, even if you are running in an administrator account (no best practices - see below), you still need to raise the privilege when overall changes to the operating system.

If you try to save files in your user directory and failing, please let us know. Otherwise the OS works as expected. If you find it too shocking, then you can always switch to another operating system. However, be aware that you will find the same 'limitations' in Linux and OS X. And nobody knows what he/she does would run as root under Linux.

You don't have your system set up optimal about users. You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all the other modern operating systems, Vista and Windows 7 are OS multi-user with system built-in accounts such as administrator, by default, all users and guest. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

In particular, you do not want account only one user with administrator privileges on Vista and Windows 7 because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult. It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but it will take third-party tools and work outside the operating system.

The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. As a user Standard is recommended for security reasons and will help protect your computer against infections. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

    Try to add the .jpg file extension yourself if Firefox does not when you save an image file.

    If you have already saved images with an incorrect file extension, then rename them and add a .jpg file extension. Check the properties of the file via the context menu to see if that worked.

    E-mail folders are virtual and you can save emails in them. To save a Web Page put it
    in a real folder you would have a file on the hard drive.

    As the forums MS Answers does not prompt for any information system when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.

    Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

    What is your system brand and model?

    What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?
    Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..
    What is the issue that you are experiencing that you think that the system restore will be remedied (or you are just convenient)?  System Restore is not a time machine.

    Describe exactly what happens when you try to perform a system restore and the error messages you see which indicates that it does not work.

    Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.
    For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
    Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
    It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
    According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.
    Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.
    System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.
    That can leave you with your problem of unspecified origin that you hope the system restore will fix (using a system restore is usually not equivalent to fixing the problem though).
    Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.
    Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.
    No matter what you use for protection against malware, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:
    Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:

    It can be uninstalled later if you wish.
    The scans by operating clean, reboot, test and we can fix any other issues.

    Do not use 'Clear history of Firefox closing' to clear the 'browsing history '.

    Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" is a more reliable way to restore the session data.

    In the Mac Finder > Preferences > Advanced 'show all filename Extensions' should be checked on.

    In Photoshop:

    Preferences > file management > add a file Extension should be set to "always".

    Hello all, I have several problems on my Skype. I use Skype on Windows 8. I had these problems once or twice and I fixed it usually simply by deleting the program and it redownloading. I had the question once again and I'm not for most everything to remedy, but nothing works. The issue or the problem im having is pretty simple, I can't CALL, MESSAGE, or the STATE of MY CHANGE. Whenever I message someone something it simply never sends and the loading thing keeps circuling around and around and never sends. When I send a picture tell the truth, it is 'impossible to download/send. When I try call call never rings and just stays there forever and I can't put end. usually, I have to restart my Skype out. The latest issue is change my status. Usually, when I change my status the program does nothing. Basically, those are my questions for my Skype. I've seen other people having the same issue. Some people helping gave them some tips. I followed the steps to solve the problem. I tried first by la - press the key Windows and R and type in %AppData%. He said renaming the folder Skype 'Old_Skype '. I did, but unfortunately another problem occurred. HE says that you cannot rename this file is open in another program/place I do not know where because I already closed my Skype and quit out of it. The second thing I did was-press the Windows key and press R and type in % temp%/skype. Then I had to remove a folder called 'DbTemp '. The same problem still product - you cannot delete this file because the file is open in another program/place. I decided to rethink and to get the new Skype for windows. The initial problem was still there. I can't call or message or change my status on one of my Skype (Skype Desktop and Skype) modern Windows. I gave a thought and said if it was my computer. I denied that thought because my internet browser and the regular PC games still worked and operated very well. So I said what happens if it is just my Skype profile itself? I also countered this thought by the fact that I was still able to use Skype on my mobile phone. THIS ISSSUE IS REALLY A PAIN KILLER. I USE SKYPE TO COMMUNICATE WITH FRIENDS AND I CAN'T CONVINCE HIM TO USE ANOTHER PROGRAM INSTEAD OF SKYPE. AND MY DEVICE USING MOBILE WHILE PLAYING SOME PC GAMES ON MY COMPUTER MAKES MY GAMES LAG AND CRASHED. PLEASE I REQUEST ASSISTANCE AND HELP FROM ANYONE!

  • After that the effects won't let me save my project -

    I am trying to record my AE project, but a warning appears saying that it cannot be saved.  I downloaded the permissions to check the latest version etc but nothing works.  When I open AE, I get a warning on CUDA and NVIDIA-I'm now downloading it.  This could be the reason why it wont let me save my projects?  any other suggestions.  I'm not very good with the technical jargon so please keep the simple answers for this person cannot!

    You cannot save the files to the root of your volume. You have to put inside a folder. Also the notation with all these extra points for naming your files are just strange and will shake your operationg system. Use underscores or just leave spaces.
