T310 S300 to H700i upgrade

My question is, has anyone here done this?  If so, how do you to do?

I intend to improve a T310 of S300 SAS with a 4 a H700i RAID-5 disk.  The reason for the upgrade is because there is simply too much problems with restoring, expanding and working with 3rd party software partitioning.  For example, you are a much less likely to be able to manage and restore a system using the S300 as the H700i safely.  Fortunately, we only sold two with S300s before discovering that we weren't really getting the Controller PERC, so our intention is to replace the two S300s H700i controllers.  It would be irresponsible not reach.

The purpose of the job is because I've lived a lot of calls to Dell technical support, and there is no consensus through at least 7 different occasions about how this can be accomplished.  The only consistent comments involve apologizing for software controllers.  The range of opinions of yours cannot, to everything that you need to do is replace the import table, Windows see it as new hardware and installs the driver.  He sounded very confident on how to move from one S to H, so I ordered and received a new H700i with cache 1 GB with Dell parts, as recommended parts.  Then the last call, the tech said I can't do this, but need to do a backup and restore of the system, but it works perfectly and it uses the same cables.  When I pulled the side cover on a T310 with a S300 controller, I found that the wiring for the S300 possibly connect to a H700i.  Now I don't know if I bought cables if the other ends would fit the plane return current return to the SAS drives hot, or if it is different also.  In addition, the S300 has a support that clips to the bottom of the chassis, which pushes against the connector on the S300 connector to keep it in.  Support could not serve the same function on a 700i, and I don't know the the H700i has a different that I also have to buy or support not available.

At this point, I have an adequate supply of theories and opinions.  My question is, has anyone here done this?  If so, how do you to do?

Thank you!

Hello jtoering

JToering
My question is, has anyone here done this?

It will be difficult to find someone who has done this exact procedure, but I can answer your questions.

JToering
The purpose of the job is because I've lived a lot of calls to Dell technical support, and there is no consensus through at least 7 different occasions about how this can be accomplished.  The only consistent comments involve apologizing for software controllers.  The range of opinions of yours cannot, to everything that you need to do is replace the import table, Windows see it as new hardware and installs the driver.

A S300 to a H700 import is not supported and will probably not work. The two cards are made by different manufacturers and write metadata differently. If you can make it work so great, but it is not supported and will probably not work. The H700 only supports migration from a PERC 6 / i or H200. You can refer to section 4.8 on page 19 of this document for clarification:

http://www.Dell.com/downloads/global/products/pvaul/en/PERC-technical-Guidebook.PDF

Then the last call, the tech said I can't do this, but need to do a backup and restore of the system, but it works perfectly and it uses the same cables.  When I pulled the side cover on a T310 with a S300 controller, I found that the wiring for the S300 possibly connect to a H700i.

No, the cable is not the same between a S300 and a H700 as you can see. Using the H700 mini SAS at both ends, so that the PERC6 / i and S300 cable use MINI-SAS on just the background connection of basket. Here are the reference numbers for cable:

W846K PERC7 hotplug
Cable Y690K PERC7

KNJKY PERC6 hotplug
Cable D385M PERC6

The connection cable is used if you have a bottom of basket, and the wired version is used if you are wiring the drives directly to the controller.

JToering
In addition, the S300 has a support that clips to the bottom of the chassis, which pushes against the connector on the S300 connector to keep it in.  Support could not serve the same function on a 700i, and I don't know the the H700i has a different that I also have to buy or support not available.

There is only one PCI for the T310 owner.

Thank you

    Following the instructions:
Part 1: Toshiba Upgrade DVD - all the success, after recording all the fingerprints of TrueSuite Access Manager.

Part 2: upgrade to MS Windows 7 DVD - I uninstalled iTunes as it recommended. It then crosses the first steps OK, but on the last step of the installation, it gives the blue screen of death. PC restarts and Vista is restored.

    Part 3: Not running

I wasn't looking over time so don't see does not error messages. Is there a log file of the installation failure Windows 7 that I could check to try to find out why the upgrade failed? Tips and tricks

You can live without TEMPRO. Believe me that. Beast of sounds now but maybe the tool delete as first step I made on my new laptop Satellite.
In any case, if you want to have it just download the latest version of the Toshiba support page.

  • PERC S300 RAID10 Drive upgrade Question

I currently have 4x250GB HARD drives in a PERC S300 on a PE T110.  It works fine but I really want to upgrade to SSD because they are becoming so cheap.  However, when I was in RAID5, it requires that any replacement of disks are of equal size or greater, even if the actual volume was a fraction of the available space.  Is this the same requirement on the S300 for RAID10?

Yes, it's necessary. In addition, you cannot mix SAS and SATA and SSD, SATA or SAS, SSD, so you will need to do a backup/restore of your SSD barrette.

  • ESXi 4.0 does support PERC S300 on a Dell PoweEdge T310?

I recently bought a Dell PowerEdge T310 with a PERC S300 with 3 500 GB HDs for RAID 5. I tried to install VMWare ESXi 4.0 with customization of Dell, but has been unable to act. Installation failed message appeared indicating the system is not the supported device to write the image.

Can you confirm that Dell ESXi 4.0 or 4.0 with 1 update supports PERC S300? Do I have to return the server, get a PERC 6i controller? Thank you.

A piece of information of Dell said that it is a software RAID device and therefore not supported RAID in any version of ESXi. You can use as only 3 separate disks. I try to disable the features of RAID if possible and see what happens. If the RAID is a requirement, it seems that you must upgrade to a PERC 5 or 6.

  • Problems upgrade memory PowerEdge T310

    Hello

Today I tried to update the RAM of a T310 (a X 3440 processor) server using memory 4x8Go

The motherboard has 6 pitches in a row. (The 1st and the 4th slot have white clips).

So, I installed 2 DIMM on the 1st and 2nd slot and the other 2 on the slot of 4th and 5th (from top)

When I start the server, the LCD on the front, displays the following message "Temp: unavailable" (I think that there is more on this message but it stucks there), the fan runs on 100% and nothing happens. No screen, no "beeps", no LED on the keyboard or the mouse, nothing.

I have upgraded the BIOS to 1.11.0 but rest the problem stil.

    Can you help me please?

    Thanks in advance

Do you think these bars work? It seems that they are compatible with my server

Yes, that should work. the memory to 32 GB max 4 of them. Even though they are 1066 MHz they will be operating at 800 MHz if you use 4 of them. If you put only 2, then they will be exploited to 1 066 MHz.

    Thank you

  • T310 with S300 in RAID 5 - How to rebuild after replacing a disc?

Got a T310 here with 4x250GB drives configured in RAID 5. Had a disk fails, and the controller signals the RAID as degraded. I replaced the drive with a known good. The S300 automatically rebuilt? I went in the controller menu to make sure that he saw the car, which she did, and I let it sit for awhile, but I do not see that the new drive is part of the table. I tried the hot spare configuration, but it is not picking it up to rebuild the table.

I'm trying to do it in the controller, because Windows runs very slowly at the moment, and I hope that it is because the table is in a drive. I tried to install open manage, but the system seems to hang when it tries to open the executable file.

It is the latest version of the OMSA:
    http://www.Dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=6XJTF&FILEID=3449087462&osCode=WS8R2&ProductCode=PowerEdge-T310&LanguageCode=en&CategoryID=SM

Download the EXE and then run to extract the files. Run C:\Openmanage\Windows\setup.exe, and then add yourservernameorip:1311 to the Intranet of THE area.

Many things may prevent it from automatically rebuild. It should start to rebuild in a minute to be assigned as a hot spare. If not, the drive can not be suitable as a spare drive (too small, bad type (SAS/SATA/SSD), incompatible (NAS, desktop/laptop, not certified), or if the table has become corrupted. Is what model of drive? You ARE able to define it as a backup, right? If this is not the case, make sure that the drive is not listed on the PD MGMT screen in CTRL-R as "foreigners".

  • PowerEdge T310 - Memory upgrade Question

I'm trying to upgrade a T310 to 16 GB of memory. It has a processor Xeon 3430 2.4 GHz with 8 GB of memory installed factory - four 2 GB 1Rx8 DIMM. I want to spend a total of 16 GB so tried to add two 2RX8 4G memory ECC low voltage according to the recommendations of upgrade parts from Dell. The server will not start. I looked through the forum and Dell manuals to try to understand this. Can I switch to 16 GB with 8 GB of memory installed in existing plant, or do I have to replace the existing memory with four 4 GB RDIMMs? Thank you! Bev S

The DIMMs you listed are actually UDIMM, why upgrade Rdimms do not work for you. Now with those being UDIMM the T310 only supports using total 4 DIMM. In order to reach 16, you will need to replace the existing 2 GB UDIMM with 4 x 4 GB UDIMM.   Which is the same as using just the 2 8 GB Rdimms only to hit the total of 16 GB you are looking for.

  • Upgrading memory on a Satellite Pro S300

    Hello

I have a S300 with 3 GB of RAM and want to switch to 4 GB. There are two memory cards into the machine, both with 4 chips. What should I do to increase capacity? I guess I will need to replace the two cards with a pair of 2 GB cards.

    Thank you very much
    Stan

Yes, you will need to use 2 x 2 GB RAM modules.
I guess that the DDR2 800 MHz SO-DIMM should be compatible.
I made good experiences with the Kingston modules. Very good brand and good quality.

  • Upgrade of RAM for Satellite Pro S300-11

    Hello
I have this netbook for two years now and I need to add more memory RAM, it has 2 GB and is capable of having up to 8 GB.
I went to two local stores to buy a memory stick, but they are not able to find my netbook to their suppliers, so that they have no idea what memory modules could go well with my pc. I know that the installed RAM module is a DDR2 at 800 MHz. So, any module of ram with these specifications should work correctly?
Another question is if my computer is able to read up to 8 GB or I have to upgrade the BIOS (I have not updated, so I have one pre-installed).
Thanks for your reply and sorry for my English!
    See you soon!

    Hi manelfera,

The laptop has Intel GM45 chipset and the chipset supports up to 8 GB of memory. This means that you can install 4 GB module in both memory slots. As you already wrote DDR2 800 MHz is the correct specification.

Theoretically, each module with this specification will work, but I recommend the purchase of high quality of Kingston for example modules. I have good experiences with this brand :)

Updating the BIOS is not necessary for the upgrade of RAM so you can keep the current version.

  • Upgrade 2 T110 S300-based hardware RAID controller

I have a Power Edge T110 2 provided with a PERC S300 SAS controller attached to 6 internal drives and execution of Win2008R2. I'm about to rebuild the tower as well as a Ubuntu Linux server and need to change the S300 with something that is hardware RAID. I'm looking to the PERC H200 as substitute, however I have a few problems.

Mainly, the H200 seems to have internal mini SAS 26 pins, while the S300 has 32 large internal regular PIN. Would normally not be a problem, but the T110 also shipped with a certain type of cable combo, which integrates the internal Rod 32 with for each of the four HDDs that it can reach the food.
In addition, it seems that this combo cable is integrated on the power supply.
I need to understand what the card can I use to replace my software RAID controller with a hardware RAID controller and always use the combo cable OR how can I replace the cable with the new card.
    Thank you!

Part number 342-3389 includes the necessary cables.

  • Satellite Pro S300 - Windows 7 driver for touchpad?

I just upgraded my S300 to Windows 7 (on a larger hard drive) and I noticed that the pilot of the original touchpad no longer works.

He is originally a problem because I normally choose 'left-handed operation' on the mouse options. Win7 driver allows that "swap button mouse left/right '-making it removes the ability to click by pressing the touchpad (the pilot of"think"the computer uses a standard PS/2 mouse instead of a touchpad). I use 2 other laptops that are configured as 'Left-handed' so don't really want one that works differently.

Do you know if there is another available driver - or even if there is another way to configure the touchpad by using standard Win7 drivers?

(Unfortunately I can't access support information on the S300 in the section "My product" page - a "loading" icon follows a ser of tabs, but nothing to charge up).

    > I installed the latest Synaptics driver
From where? I ve checked the Toshiba download page and can not find it offered for Win7 64 bit?
Have you tried to install it to another laptop model?

  • Satellite S300-10j - error 0xe0000100 in Windows 7 driver sound installation

    Hello

I have troubleshooting installing my sound card with Realtek High Audio driver on my laptop Toshiba S300-10j under Wimdows 7.
All the time, I got the 0xe0000100 error code when setting up my sound card.

My laptop worked on Vista and I started the new installation Win7 and whenever I get this error code repeatedly.
I already searched on web sites to find a solution to the problem, but so far, but I can't.

Notice that Microsoft says in his FAQ Win7 is a partition problem (delete partition bit between 100 MB and 200 MB)
but I tried this solution and it does not work.

So thank you very much in advance for your answer.

    Hi mate

How have you installed Windows 7?
You did a new clean install or did upgrade you from Vista to Windows 7?

I recommend you clean install because it would avoid some of the problems with the old vista drivers/software.

    With regard to the sound:
As far as I know the laptop supports the audio chip Realtek ALC268-GR.
So simple common Realtek HD audio driver must be compatible and should work fine.

Here you can download the latest Realtek HD audio driver:
