T40 USB question "this device can perform faster.

Hello

OS: Windows XP sp3.

The USB is just using USB 1.1 speed and informs "this device can perform faster..." ». I googled for this issue in an hour now without solution. The driver on your page for NT4 system. Where can I find a driver to get the proper speed? Or FAQ post, just something.

Thanks in advance

In your research, have you been able to find this link? : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-50838

Even if the document refers to Windows 2000, this means that you need the latest drivers of Intel chipset for the 845 and 855 chipsets to get USB 2.0 support working.

The latest Lenovo drivers are available from the matrix of Thinkpad here (which are always old enough):

http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-46058

I had to do something similar (many moons ago) I had on my old T40, but the version of Windows XP is come with the correct drivers, I just need to use Device Manager to update the drivers from the default values of windows to the USB 2.0 version.

Hope that helps.

EDIT:

You can also find information about the troubleshooting of devices USB 2.0 here:

http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/MIGR-4YQHUD.html

The most useful excerpt of this link is probably:

Ensure that the USB device is USB 1.1 or 2.0 compatible.
Connect compatible devices USB 1.1 on a compatible port USB 2.0 will cause an error dialog box to appear. This dialog box details that a device non-haute speed was attached to a port high speed. The device must operate normally, but at a slower speed than if a 2.0 device is connected to the 2.0 port. Most of the USB 1.1 devices will operate normally in the USB 2.0 ports.

In case, the problem is with your driver (s) machine (s) rather than the hub/port USB driver.

Try updating the chipset driver you can also delete all the USB controllers and hubs in Device Manager ports. Restart the unit. After restarting again the OS would recognize all USB ports.
Then try to reconnect the USB HDD

Go into Device Manager, there may be something inside your computer, not only a USB / external peripheral. Look for something with an icon of warning or something. See if you can see what's wrong, give a screenshot or two, and we can work from there :)

Open the Device Manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc > OK) and expand the "Controllers of Bus USB" section by clicking on the + sign to the left.

It will probably take several entries for "PCI to USB Host Controller" or similar terms.  Please report if one (or several) of these entries are for a "PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller.  If none of the USB controllers is "strengthened", you do not have USB 2.0

  • USB device can run faster

    Hi all

I recently bought a USB-6008.  When I plug it into my PC, I get a message "this device can perform faster.  This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port.  For a list of available ports, click here. "When I click on the message, it shows me a list of available ports, but none of them seem not to be USB 2.0.

All my USB ports are supposed to be USB 2.0.  It is an Asus P5N72 - T Premium mobo.  I have updated the bios, and made sure that USB 2.0 is selected in the bios Setup.  I use Win XP SP3.  According to the Microsoft Web site, there was a known problem with XP supporting USB 2.0 on Asus Motherboards, but that he was supposed to have been fixed in SP1.

I realize that it is a matter of Windows probably more than a question of data acquisition, but I spent the entire afternoon on Microsoft, Asus and other sites.  Can anyone help?

    Thank you

  • Satellite Pro A60 PL: message: USB device can run faster

    Hello!

I have a problem with the USB 2.0 drivers in my Satellite Pro A60 PL. everytime when I connect the message apear theres USB 2.0 device this device can run faster. What can I do about it?

    Hi guys

I received the same message. It s not an error but a balloon tip Windows.
I didn't find the reason for this message because my phone supports USB 2.0 ports too and I also connected a USB 2.0 compatible device.

I've tired to remove the Device Manager, the controllers and the USB hubs and updated the Win XP operating system to the last State. I've also updated the driver chipset but sometimes (not always) this message again using a disc HARD 2.5 USB.

I read in some professional computer magazines that this message is normal and it might appears with some SATA external USB hard drives. So you can ignore it.
    It s nothing serious.

    Greetings

  • "This USB mass storage device can transfer information faster if you connect it to a USB 3.0 port Superspeed ' when the device is already connected to a USB 3.0 port.

I just bought and installed a USB 3.0 card. It is the Startech PEXUSB3S2 PCIe card. I installed the card in a PCIe 2.0 X 1 slot. The manual says it's exactly the slot, that it supports.

The Manager device displays NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller and NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Root Hub are installed and are working correctly. I have a Thermaltake BLACX5G 5 G USB 3.0 hard drive caddy. The transfer rate is only 35 MB/s using the HDTune benchmark. It is a USB 2.0 speed.

When the player is turned on, windows displays the message "this USB mass storage device can transfer information faster if you connect it to a Super speed USB 3.0 port»

For some reason, the system doesn't see the caddy to drive USB 3.0 as being plugged into a USB 3.0 port, when it actually is.

I remember having this same problem with Windows XP, when I bought a USB 2.0 card. The only thing that fixed it at the time was upgraded to XP SP2.

This should not be a problem because I know that Windows 7 pro 64-bit supports USB 3.0.

My motherboard is an ASUS P5QL-EM support an Intel Core 2 Quad and 4 GB of DDR2 memory. According to the manual owner the PCIe x 1 slots support architecture 1.0 and 2.0.

Edit: I just tested the external hard drive and expansion card USB 3.0 on my motherboard Gigabyte of friends running Windows XP. Everything worked perfectly, no problems at all.

Here, there is a problem with Windows 7 or the motherboard. Still unresolved, currently installs a floppy drive so I can update the firmware of my motherboard.

I checked the implementation of the card several times, removed and installed in another motherboard to test, then removed and reinstalled again in my motherboard ASUS check several times for a fit course.  It still does not work. I have just completed update the firmware of the motherboard with the latest version, and I also did a new install of Windows 7, install the drivers USB 3.0 immediately after installing Windows over. None of this solves the problem.

I'm running out of ideas on how to fix this without doing something drastic as a replacement for my motherboard. I don't want the speed of USB 3.0, but I don't think I'm ready for an another two or three hundred dollars to get it.

I've been all over the ' net trying to find a solution and read tons about USB USB 3.0 specifically and in general. I can find no reason why the drivers would install and report that they are working correctly, but fail to connect to 3.0 speeds. I think that this would generate a certain type of error instead of such a strange symptom.

    EDIT:

Here go us. I knew that is was a bad idea to buy one main (ASUS P5QL-EM) card that had to be overclocked to 1066 MHz for DRAM memory. I did all this work, and every time I reset my BIOS or updated it would always be the frequency DRAM back to where it should be (1066). After a reset of the computer was the starter and I just let it start instead of setting the DRAM frequency and, suddenly, USB 3.0 card worked perfectly. I confirmed this by setting the frequency to 1066 and looking at the USB 3.0 card fail again. I guess it must have something to do with the clock being sent to the PCIe bus.

In any case, the USB 3.0 card works perfectly and gives me a transfer rate HD Tune to 99 MB/s on a drive from WD SATA 7200 RPM and 86.1 Mbps on a Samsung drive hard 5400 RPM / MIN 3,5 "SATA. These are the same reference points I get when these drives are connected to my internal SATA connectors. I'd say USB 3.o works perfectly now and maxing out the hard drives performance.

    Thanks for any help.

  • IBM Thinkpad message: 'this machine can run faster with the USB 2.0 hub.

Original title: Thinkpad USB 2.0 Hub.

    Hello:

I have an IBM Thinkpad T-21 which is under Ubuntu & Windows xp.  I primarily use Windows XP.  The pop-up that keeps occurring is "this machine can run faster with the USB 2.0 hub.  Can you tell me how to upgrade my USB 2.0 Hub?  Would like to know because I can't sync my Android phone with my computer until I do it. Thank you.

Are you sure you copied this error message properly?  In other words, he says that the hub could perform better if connected to a USB 2.0 port?  As far as I can determine that the T21 is not come with a USB 2.0 port, even if you connect a USB 2.0 device (for example a hub), the unit will only race as fast as the port allows it.

What is the brand and model of your terminal?

It is possible that the message means the opposite (i.e., your computer has a USB 2.0 port, but the hub is only a USB 1.1 device).

USB 2.0 was introduced in 2001, so if you bought your computer before 2001, it is likely that you use USB 1.1 or 1.0.

Open the Device Manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc > OK)
Expand the category of 'USB Bus controllers'.
If you see the "Enhanced" work for one or more of the listed devices, you have a USB 2.0 port.  If you do not see "Enhanced", you have USB 1.1.

If the problem is that the USB port on the computer is not 2.0, so your only solution is to buy a USB 2.0 PC Card adapter.  Example and example 2
If the problem is that the hub is not 2.0, then you will need to buy a new hub.

  • USB 3.0"your device can run faster.

I recently bought a HP ENVY 15 t-j100 Quad CTO Notebook Windows 7 Professional Edition (PC product #: E1P05AV). Four ports are supposed to be usb 3.0, but sometimes when I put my flashdrive 3.0 in, it says "your device can run faster. I've updated all the drivers and the problem seemed to go away. But recently I have found that if I do not have the flash 3.0 player in the port completely, or if I do it slowly, he sometimes with the same message. Might not have in a sense caused the problem in the first place? It is even supposed to have this message when this happens? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello cck979,

I see that you have a problem with 3.0 ports on your laptop and your flash 3.0 player. I will try to help you with this.

This document may have information and steps that will help you: Troubleshooting connections USB (Windows 7). Generally however if the unit is not plugged in all the way or it won't work not otherwise you will get some sort of message.

Also have you noticed if this happens with all ports, or a specific port?

    Hello

In the Device Manager - right click on the device and Uninstall - when complete reboot.

Check in the Device Manager to see if the device re-installed. If it isn't action - Scan for
    hardware changes.

Also check the BIOS - Setup/settings - often F2 for system start - make sure that the USB port

    MIK niwdog,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers community forum.

What a message means that you have plugged a USB 2.0 on a USB 1.1 device.  Try connecting the device to a different USB port on your computer.  If the error keeps popping up, here's how to disable:

Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Expand the section indicating Bus USB controllers.
Right-click on anything that has the word "controller" at the end, as a Standard Enhanced PCI controller USB host (or something similar), click Properties, click Advanced, and check in the box that says "don't tell me about USB errors".

AutoPlay is popping up because he sees your USB and want to autoplay anything on it.

How can I stop asking me what program I want to use?

Disable AutoPlay for only one type of media
    1. open AutoPlay by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, on material and audio and then click AutoPlay.

    2. in the list next to each type of media that you do not want to be asked questions on, select take no action and then click Save.

Let us know if you need more information.
