T400 and UEFI

Hello world

I recently saw a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLwaKb6pLrc&feature=player_embedded), and it keeps me hopeful that someday my T400 must load a day the start time of 10 seconds.

I was wondering if you think it will come to the T400 or would be Lenovo will not send UEFI on their new products only?

UEFI is not available on the T400, she should never be released with the T400 machines.

    Hello

    My laptop:

ThinkPad T400 2767-C99 * (graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 256 MB / X4500MHD (Switchable Graphics)), OS is Windows XP

I just installed the latest video driver from lenovo page (which also installs "ATI catalyst")

    Externale monitor:

    I just bought a Samsung SyncMaster 2443FW, 24 "TFT monitor with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200

    Problem:

Monitor works fine with my new T400s and my old Acer laptop. However, with my T400 (described above), I can't do the monitor uses the 1920 x 1200 resolution. However, all the other ugly resolutions so I need it to work with 1920 x 120

-If I change the resolution of right on the desktop of Windows XP (and then properties-online settings) and set the screen on 1920 x 1200 resolution, then my monitor used only a lower meanless (1440 x 900) and effect of scrolling as I move my pointer on the screen

-If I use the ATI catalyst software to set the resolution, I can only chose smaller resolutions (he not go 1920 x 1200)

    Questions

Is it a hardware (maybe the graphics card does not support 1920 x 1200) or a software problem (maybe a problem with the driver) or just a matter of adjustment?

    What can I do?

  • HP Envy m6 1125dx: how to upgrade the bios and uefi without a hard drive

I can't install OS, including Windows 8.1 discs. After that I get so far along, installing Windows says there is no hard drive, but it's there!

I see that my BIOS is outdated. When I download the new BIOS from hp.com, I get an executable file

    Quite true.

    See the image below.

What is necessary to do is to extract the sp66782.exe file to a folder on the second computer.

Rename A 018, 4. FD file to 018 has 4. BIN and save it to the root of the USB stick.

Plug the key into a port on the computer laptop problem.

Press the power button / stop the laptop and immediately press and hold the Windows key and the B key until the phone reacts and starts the BIOS recovery.

If all goes well, that will recover the BIOS corrupted with the new copy which is on the flash drive.

There is a detailed description of another method to do this on the thread of the forum according to 3rd party.

Using this method will result in certain risks that you have to accept if you decide to follow this way to unbrick your laptop. Any update of the BIOS manually is risky.

  • T400 and Advanced mini dock

Hi - I have a T400 with integrated graphics card and I'm looking into getting a mini dock advanced to run an external monitor.

What output resolution has done with success through the advanced mini dock VGA port? -This will help me understand which monitor to get, I read that many had bad signal of the dock when using the VGA port.

As my T400's only integrated graphics, I won't be able to use the port DVI - is this still true or something changed?

Your comments would be much appreciated,

    Thank you

    Cosmin

    Hi cosma12,

Your T400 with integrated graphics can digital video output through integrated DisplayPort or DVI connector on the advanced Mini dock. It is only the switchable T400 graph that cannot use DVI with integrated graphics card, they must use the ATI chip instead.

Graphics from Intel in the T400 can drive 1920 x 1200 on DVI or DisplayPort - which I think is the highest resolution, supported by the single-link DVI. If you are shopping for monitors, I highly recommend to make one with a digital input: DVI / HDMI / DisplayPort. the video quality is theoretically (and practically) better than when using analog (VGA).

EDIT: Oops, the T400 (and R400) do NOT have the DisplayPort, while the largest do T500/R500. My bad.

  • I have problems to install the UEFI BIOS and UEFi diagnostic on my HP probook 4530 s

I recently bought the probook 4530 s, but for some reason, my hard drive has begun to view the status of the dynamics. I reinstalled the window and the status of the disk was returned to base. However, now I have a problem in installing UEFI BIOS and UEFI diagnostics. whenever I try to install it, a message that you do not have HP_Tool partition would like to install it? I hit the Yes button, but as I already have 4 discs on my new system fail to form. Thus, the operation failed.  so can you help me solve this problem?

  • Re: Satellite C850 and UEFI BIOS settings

    I have laptop Satellite C850 - 1 2 with Windows 8.1

When I boot, it shows a toshiba logo, not the original flag 8 Windows. It is not so much a problem, but I can't change because the parameter is blocked within the parameters of the UEFI. How can I change this?

I already tried to change through the windows in different ways, but each time it will change the UEFI!

    Help?

To be honest I don't know what to do, you mean with blocked settings, but it can be changed in the BIOS settings.
What you need is to make complete OS stop http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm and after having done that, you can restart the laptop and enter the BIOS (try F12) settings and then you can change all the settings of the BIOS.

  • Pavilion H8-1205eo: Problem with 980 Ti and UEFI

Hello! A few years ago I upgraded from the Radeon 7570 standard to use a 670 gtx graphics card in my H8-1205eo and everything went well. Recently I bought gtx 980 Ti to run the latest games at high heat. When I started the pc after installing the card, that it would not go beyond the blue HP screen and pressing ESC to enter the BIOS would show only a black screen with my characteristics listed. After reading a little online, I came to the conclusion that I need to change legacy to UEFI. I looked around a bit in the configuration menu, but wasn't able to find a way to change this in the UEFI. Should I buy a new motherboard, or I simply do not found the setting?

    Peter, welcome to the forum.

You can't find UEFI because the computer is equipped with a standard BIOS.  HP didn't start using UEFI until mid-October 2012.  There is no way to upgrade to UEFI.  The last series of video card that did not use UEFI was 640 gt.

Have the slot for SIM card does not mean you have a 3G modem card inserted in the WWAN card reader.

This simply means that your willing T400 of needed resources such as antenna & slot to be upgraded to be 3G equipped.

You will need to purchase a compatible 3G modem card to make your T400 laptop 3G enabled.

Consult the maintenance manual for a list of approved 3G modem cards. There should be an empty slot on the motherboard for the 3G modem & antenna to fix on the 3G card.

  • T400 and Advanced Mini Dock - does not detect DVI monitor

I have a T400 with integrated graphics and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and I recently bought an Advanced Mini Dock for it.  I have a Dell 1800FP monitor connected to the dock via the DVI output.  When I anchor the T400, the system does not detect the external monitor.  If I go to the resolution of the screen and click on detect, it does not appear.  The weird part is that if I reboot then than in the dock, when the system comes back he * is * detect and use the external monitor.

Any ideas what's happening?  Other equipment connected by the base (USB, Ethernet cable devices) all work very well.

I think I solved this problem.  I uninstalled my video driver and installed the latest version from the Lenovo Web site (which was more recent than the one found by Lenovo System Update).  Now my system properly detects the external monitor when I attach to the docking station.

  • T400 and X 25 - M SSD

OK guys, I searched the threads and find a lot of troubleshooting when I clone the HDD (I intend to use Ghost), but I have a very basic question. What X 25 do to replace the HD on my new T400. 9.5 mm model is the standard thickness of HDD size used in the T400.

  • Questions T400 and VGA

I'm fairly certain that my VGA output was working fine until today.  I do not use the external display which is often so it is hard to say exactly when the issue began.

The external display fine during start-up and the animated Windows logo (it's on Windows 7, btw).  But when the login screen appears, the screen looks washed out as a photo overexposed with very low color.

The only thing I installed recently is TurboTax 2009.  Could software as it will interrupt the VGA?

An interesting I noticed also was right when Windows is going down (the "shutting down" message), the VGA display looks normal without any problems.

Does anyone have ideas, what could be the problem?

I had this problem as well on driver 8.15. ???.

Solved by clicking on the icon for the Intel GMA system tray and open the properties of the chart, choose Color Enhancement and choose the monitor falling down. Click on default settings and you should be fine.

How first of all ask the question? Gamma has been wayyyyyyy too high without apparent reason. I certainly didn't change the gamma of the external screen when it happened to me, and I doubt that the original poster did this either.

  • New HP desktop, Windows8, Ubuntu, UEFI and a desktop computer that is no longer start

I have a new HP desktop computer purchased just before Christmas, 2012.  Not realizing the problems with Windows8 and UEFI, I tried to load the version 12.1, Ubuntu, and now the Office does not start.

Here is the chronology of the events:

1A tried to install Ubuntu linux 12.1 with dual boot NO

2 once installed Ubuntu, the system would not start and crashes with an error message

    3. accessed in UEFI menu and security disabled for all boot devices

4 tried to start again, but the only thing on the screen is a picture of Seattle and the system will not meet any keyboard input

At this point you can power cycle this machine, everything you want, and it puts just a photo of Seattle.  I can't access BIOS UEFI, or anything like that and the machine will not respond to any keyboard input.

I did some research and it seems that this new version of the UEFI running on this desktop computer will not allow the machine to run anything other than Windows8?

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?  I don't want doesn't matter what Microsoft anything running on this PC, and want to dual-boot.  I have not the recovery disc for this desktop computer.

I think about how to solve this problem first becomes the machine to respond to keyboard entries, enter the UEFI and re - enable security this could allow me boot Windows8 still?

    Thank you!

I finally got the machine to respond to the keyboard.  I found the solution on a linux Web site

    1. turn off the machine by pulling the power cord

    2. remove the battery

    3. press and hold the Power Off button for 60 seconds

    4 replace the battery

    5. start and hold down the ESC key

BTW, I will update this thing with some notes as this can help someone else.

The machine is a brand new HP P2-1310.  It comes with Windows 8.

Try to wipe the hard drive and install linux has been in vain due to the new implementation of UEFI.  At best, I could install linux on a new partition, but the machine does never start the linux OS.  It will start only Windows8 successfully.

As near as I can tell, UEFI will prevent any OS other than Windows8 currently running on this computer.  See linux UEFI as a kind of security attack and simply prevents the machine to use.  The Open Source community works now this last attempt of MS and PC manufacturers to prevent consumers who buy a new PC to install anything other than Windows8.  Run a search on this issue and you can get more information on the latest status.

My guess is that sometime in 2013 different versions of linux Open Source will receive the digital signature required to interact with UEFI and load their OS on the new PC, or they will develop a workaround solution.  My suggestion for anyone considering buying a new PC that intends to install linux, immediately after that purchase should consider carefully what is not possible.  Right now I still can't do and I'm stuck now with Windows8.  If I had to do it again, I will not buy a new PC, but rather just go online and buy something.  After this experience I discovered used PCs with fast processors and a lot of memory can be purchased for $100 or less (craigs list), and because they are pre-UEFI, they will be easily load linux.
