T400 - palmrest loose

I recently bought a T400. However, I just noticed that the region of palmrest on the right (the area next to the fingerprint reader and the latch catches, where the ThinkPad logo is pasted) is loose and not tightly attached to the chassis. It creaks even under my weight of palm. It seems that there is some gap between the frame and the cover.  Is that a normal design error or a manufacturing defect? Everyone knows this?

Hello

I would say to reinstall the palm rest.

Here are a few videos, see button: deletions of FRU, it s SL but T is very similar.

If Basic notice some locks are broken, please contact support, but can be just, it must be reinstalled.

Concerning

Andreas

  • The T400 2768 L 35 WWAN is ready?

Hi, I bought a T400 2768 L 35 (impossible to find this serial number in the standard list, but that's what it says on the bottom plate of my laptop) my university IT shop a couple of years. I have a 3G compatible SIM card and I would use it on my laptop to surf the net. I found SIM card but did not see any WWAN card in Device Manager. Is there a way I can go online via WWAN? Or am I doomed to rely on wifi

    Welcome to the community.

as long as it has not changed, this is the hardware configuration for your machine:

    ThinkPad T400 (2768-L35): T9600(2.8GHz), 4 GB of RAM, HD 500 GB at 5400 RPM, LCD 14.1 in 1280 x 800, 256 MB ATI Radeon HD3470, CD-RW/DVD-RW, Intel 802.11agn, option WWAN, Bluetooth, Modem, 1 Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, reader of fingerprints, camera, 4 c Li-ion, Win7 Pro 32

the key word above is option. because you do not see a device WWAN in DM, you have probably no card installed. you mention you location SIM, then you probably also have the WWAN antenna, but for sure, you can check if you are comfortable pulling the palmrest and keyboard. Please see the hardware maintenance manual here:

    http://download.Lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6629_04.PDF / pg100-101.

If you find the sons of antennas not connected, all you need is a proper map and drivers. the important thing to consider is that the card must be on the BIOS 'white list' trusted network devices. If you scroll down to pg150 of the HMM, you will see the map in the exploded views as ex. No. 25. scroll further down to pgs273-275 who see there are 3 cards listed with their #s FRU. While you are looking to buy, be sure to get a genuine FRU role, rather than a generic/universal model.

Finally, you can get the driver of the pilot matrix, here:

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-72858

    HTH a little.

    Edit: grammar

  • T61 14W and T400 combination?

    Hi all

I have a question - I have a T61 14W with (probably) faulty nVidia GPU. I'm about to replace the motherboard with the intel GPU one but I found what's T400 mobo can be cheaper than T61 intel GPU mobo.

It fit? I tried to compare all the pictures that I found and it seems OK to me, but the holes, etc...

Also - I found cheap chassis for T400 with processor and the heat sink. As for keyboard, palmrest, and LCD? Adapt the T61?

    Thank you very much

    Simon

    Boo-beek says:

Cable - so I need the flex will have the same end for LCD like the T61, but late enough next to the laptop? In order to ensure

    Fix ;-)

T400 came with Intel graphics or with switchable graphics (AMD/Intel), there is no knowledge associated graphics bugs with this generation.

    I see these scenarios:

    1. If you don't need a lot of graphics power you can try to get an Intel only 14.1 T61 Planar, or 08/08 Nvidia Planar position, even if it is rare and expensive.
    2. You can also get a barebone T400 with a screen of work and exchange your car and your keyboard.
    3. You can also get a barebone T400 without a working screen and swap your LCD screen, (you will need get a T400 cable and a frequency inverter), keyboard and player.

2 is probably the easiest IMO.

  • Questions of T400

    Hey guys.

The hinges are loose on my T400 and I am on the last day of my warranty. I was wondering if I would be able to move things (keyboard is steep; left clicker under the touchpad is bordering off... etc fall but the hinges are my priority) on my laptop fixed, even if it's the last day. I kept the laptop in excellent condition (I have baby the crap out of my laptop) the last two days on my laptop hinges became loose, however, and whenever I use my laptop, I feel that my screen will simply fall (the horror!) From what I've read on the Web site, if they sent someone to my home to solve the problems of my laptop, it would be the next day and my warranty is over that time it would mean I have to put on a site "lenovo fix - it? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

I would call the warranty #. I always assumed it means that you need to report the problem at the end of the warranty, not that it must be fixed at the end of the warranty.

BTW, the waiting on parts T400 are 3 + weeks, so you may be waiting some time for them to come in. (I'm now in week 3d of my week 3 ETA on hinges, replacing the screen + card reader).

  • I just bought a new T400

    Hello community,

I recently bought a new form of Thinkpad T400 Lenovo Outlet store, it's going to happen in a few days. It would be my first time owning a Thinkpad, so I came up with a list of questions, I hope that the community can help me answer all or most of it. Any response would be appreciated.

The specifications are: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 Ghz, Windows Vista Business 32-bit, 3 GB of RAM, 160 GB HD, BlueTooth, Webcam, scanner, digital battery 6 cells.

    (1) we said the new awareness of Lenovo, but is there something I should check when the laptop arrives?

    (2) the T400 has any known problem I should look out for?

    (3) I intend to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit, is it possible with my current card?

    (4) are there any known issues with the T400 and Windows 7 64-bit?

    (5) If Yes, these issues were corrected by windows updates? (referring to Question 4)

    (6) are there cases of Thinkpad that you would recommend?

Thank you community, I am pleased to join you guys.

Thanks, could replace my RAM will void the warranty?

replace the hard drive, ram, palmrest and keyboard will not void the warranty on the laptop, they are considered VINTAGE (CRUS by).

  • Fingerprint reader can be attached on my T400?

    Hello world

Before I bought my T400 (without a fingerprint reader), I tried one but I forgot it.

Once, I opened my laptop and I thought that I can ask for the part which includes the fingerprint reader and throw my existing touchpad...

Is someone can you please tell me if this is possible?

    Thank you

    Chris

Yes, you can attach a palmrest with fingerprints on your T400, as a direct replacement for the palm-rest of your current T400.

  • Is this real T400?

Hi, I am in the market to buy a Thinkpad T400 on eBay because they are no longer available on Lenovo. I found a few things that say they sell a "new but opened put in a box" their right to open the box is to ensure that all accessories are inside the box. They also argue that the warranty is still intact. To me, it looks a little too good to be true. I was wondering if anyone in the community have had experience with this? Here are some of my fears to buy from these vendors...

    (1) offs (fake) Thinkpads T400 knocking at low prices.

    (2) they have messed with the material inside with keylogger devices, time bombs material (as the computer will just died after a year), or they came out good material of Lenovo and replaced it with a cheap material, etc.

    (3) cancelled guaranteed thinkpads.

No idea if I should buy these Thinkpads on eBay? and if I decide to buy, any kind of indicators that I can look to find out that my warranty is not null?

Thanks a lot guys. Displays the first time, if I said anything to offend you I apologize in advance.

aside from the serial number stickers, you should look at quality LCD i.e. If there are imperfections, parts misfit, broken parts, hinge voltage, battery life (if she is young and in good condition), optical drive to work.

If you can you should take off the palmrest and keyboard to have a look at the status internal, if there is something broken, if there is no release of residues, etc..

  • Scan fingerprint T400 is non-functional + R & R question

I expect to hear from someone else with a similar configured T400 who did a fresh install of Win 7 Professional.

Have you had problems to install and use the fingerprint reader software?

Have you had problems installing rescue & recovery 4.3?

I have no luck installing R & R, and the fingerprint reader does not work.

    Moderator Note: subject adjusted line.

Seriously, I appreciate the detailed responses that everyone has provided to try to help solve my problems. You are all a great resource and contribution to this community.

    1. the question of the fingerprint has been resolved with the help of a hotline to lenovo. After a quick list of my troubleshooting steps, the support agent has ordered a replacement palmrest with a new scanner of fp. Problem solved! More funny thing is - the scanner FP software tutorial still picked up my fingerprints, but he was not one of my prints or establishing a single sign on the session. After a quick exchange FRU - bang, it worked immediately.

    2. the question of R & R no longer exists after the replacement of the fingerprint scanner. I guess that there is a hook in the software requiring the FP scanner is fully functional and it bombed.

    Fixed and fixed.

  • Palmrest squeaky T61

    Hi all

First post. I tried to do a search but couldn t find a post dealing with my exact problem.

I had my T61 for about a month and used only for a few weeks. Suddenly, the left button of the mouse equivalent under the touchpad became squeaky - and especially the half left of the button. I tried to use compressed air, in which case there was dust or something else causing noise, but it helps didn t. Then, I removed the screws to remove the palmrest to look more closely at it. The noise is still there when the palmrest is deleted, so I guess it's a mechanical problem with spring (correct English word?) that needs to be oiled or something.

Ideally, I would take a look still closer, but there seems to be some sort of special screws holding a small metal panel above the left and right click of buttons, which I am unable to remove it with standard tools. In addition, now after reassembling the T61, I notice there is a cracking noise when I put my hand in the lower right area of the palm rest, which I am not sure whether it is new or was it all first.

I would add that the keyboard broke when I was looking for the serial number on T61, and I'm not sure if I was able to adequately replace. Is it only the two "slots" on the end of the keyboard which are drag into place? It seems to be a bit wobbly when the Palm is not in place, and there is a small part of metal that seems loose under the left corner of the keyboard. I'm not sure that this position should be, as it doesn´t seem to do anything.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? The cracking, I can live with (However, prefer to fix), but the left button that squeaks is really boring. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I ve seen many good crew answers on this forum tonight, so I hope you can help me out - preferably with a do-it-yourself solution.

Unfortunately, it's one of those things that are of great difficulty. If you can, I recommend referring to the Lenovo and repair because there is really nothing you can do.
