T42 - 2373-CS8
Windows XP SP 3 installed last BIOS 3.23 incl. Try to install Power Bishop 1.65. Installation is running, all right, but after a reboot, no sign of any MP. Any clue?
'1.65 V' is only available with the Driver power management
The recent power management software is either the Battery MaxiMizer V 1.38 or Power Manager V 1.99o for example. T43 download page (works great with T42) but need Microsoft .NET Framework 3.x (if I am not mistaken)
Both reveal the green symbol in the taskbar

Try to do a backup on DVD. After chossing the CD/DVD drive it says "can not estimate of available space on the cd/dvd" (I have a Swedish version) so worded could be different in English. I try TDK DVD - R 4.7 GB DVD. Should work, or?
There is no DVD RW in this T42... :@)
I can't get the wireless controller works on this computer, I tried all the drivers listed, and none of them work. Device Manager acknowledges a network controller, but when I try to install the driver, I get the message that "the device was not installed because the driver is not found" and yes I used the installation of the c/drivers/.exe...
Help needed, thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
It is possible that you were installing wrong driver, this time before installing the following driver uninstall all drivers wireless previously installed and install it:- http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6hwc05ww.zip
Don't forget to install from C:/Drivers/...exe
Also make sure you see two devices in network adapters (LAN or wireless).
Keep us in the loop.
I have a T42 2373-JXG Type
I have a problem with an Ethernet controller not recognized in Device Manager.
Specifically, I know that I have a problem with the wireless network card.
I don't see it on the Device Manager list and I don't have a wireless network connection.
I went to the download site of lenovo and precise model, type, OS etc..
I tried to use all the files available here to solve this problem, but it still does not work.
I downloaded these files: 1kwc42ww, 1rwc89ww, 7ira09ww, 7vwc15ww, 77wc39ww.
I have not either the correct driver file or I'm not doing something good.
Can someone help me?
Welcome to the forum!
Here's the right driver for your computer wireless:
After you download it, make sure you unpack it in the following directory: C > drivers > win > Wlanath
I hope this helps.
I have a T42 model 2373 and get the error "fan error". So I buyed a new and replace as described in the maintenance manual. After I rebuild the T42, the computer looks dead. When I push the power button, the battary lamp blinks short and nothing that more occur. I connect the power and when I push the power button once again, the bluetooth led will begin to Flash. No BIOS, fan does not work, the projection of the small lamp at the power supply works do not light. Only the lamp of the battery is activated, when I connect the power supply. This lamp is green and glittering. What's up with that. I kill the mainboard change the fan?
So I hope that everyone knows what is happening.
So guys, tired on this subject! I bought a surfboard renovated - build, and tracks fine T42 again. Just at the moment where, my son arrived with his T42 with - make a guess - "fan error". OK and once again...
Thanks to all, for thinking about my problem and try to help.
Had to reinstall WinXP home on the T42 and cannot find my original disks of T42... downloaded all the updates on the Lenovo site for this model, but I can't seem to get the volume/mute on the keyboard buttons to work or find the power gauge (downloaded power s/w). Any help on what to download to get the volume buttons to work and where to 'find' the popular power gauge!
For volume/mute buttons work, you'll need the Hotkey Driver, available at:
For the battery gauge in the taskbar, if you already have Power Manager installed, you need to run Power Manager, go to Options and check "See the gauge of Power Manager in the task bar"
I need to find the correct audio drivers for this baby. The Lenovo provided a (1ga241ww.exe) does not work - it does not recognize the audio material. The device in question seems to be a multimedia audio controller,
Code provider 8086, dev id 24 c 5, 05371014, rev 01 subsystem id.
Any ideas anyone?
See you soon,.
Press the 'stronger' - button.
Sometimes, the volume is cut after the installation of the driver.
I just took it and can not get on my network because of the security of wireless b card I tried to change the map with a bg wireless Intel and I get an error. Unautherized electric network card and remove it... There must be a way to upgrade this thing isn't there? I tried a second card intel and Broadcom card. I'll try a bios update if ever I can get it to load the driver page.
Welcome to the forum!
You need a card issued IBM with a certain number FRU, since wireless cards are on a white list in the BIOS and that's why your 'new' raise an error.
If you exhaust your options, feel free to leave me a private message, I have a couple of sitting around, all Intel 2200BG cards out of ThinkPad T4x.
Hi my laptop is down and I had to reinstall windows xp pro, the only thing is that I have a few missing drivers in Device Manager there is a? against:
? Biometric co-processor
? Ethernet controller
? Multimedia Audio Controller
? Network controller
? Modem PCI
? Unknown device
? Video controller (VGA Compatible)
I had a search in the Lenovo Web site and downloaded and installed many drivers, but none of them seem work.any help please thank you
Welcome to the forum!
That you have downloaded and extracted files in the subfolder to Win, now you have to go out there and run the setup... for example, your Ethernet (wired LAN) will be in C > drivers > win > Ethernet, and this is where you will find the installation file to run.
Your audio would be in c > drivers > win > Audio etc etc.
Good luck and we keep abreast.
This is my first post desperate, after talking to Lenovo technicians yesterday for more than 2 hours.
I sent my T42 (2373-H6U, teacher of XP SP2) in and Lenovo BIOS update, replaced some plastics etc...
Last Thursday, I tried to move some data on my external hard drive, and it seemed to take forever. So I decided to restore the factory settings and did so yesterday. However, it still seemed that I have USB speed issues (in the Device Manager, the system recognizes the USB ports, but the speed is 1.1 instead of 2.0, who she was before sending them in.) and windows did not recognize the drivers of biometric processor...
So what I did, I
-ran PC doctor and he says that this usb device is not installed...
-installed the chipset intel... http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/document.do?sitestyle=Lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-46058
-tried to install this but works not because it does not work on my system... WIN NT 4.0: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4TQVCU
-anything yet, because I have not found a driver...
Lenovo said drop it again (still under warranty) but I have to LEAVE THE COUNTRY TUESDAY FOR a YEAR AND THEY DON'T want TO SHIP overseas!
Maybe one of you can enlighten us on that.
At soon Barthezz
I'm sorry to say you need to send the machine. The Southbridge chip on the motherboard is a failure and the Board needs to be replaced or the chip in a re-ball. Good luck.
Good day and happy new year IBMers!
I would like to change the motherboard of my ThinkPad T42 2373 - xxx with a card mother T42p, is it possible? Everything will be working properly?
The Board you are interested in will work fine.
It requires a "long" fan of M10, so if you do not have one, now it's time to order. The FRU is 13R2657.
I have laptop IBM thinkpad T42 2373-F1G TYPE... I ned drivers for windows XP Professional CO-PROCESSOR BIOMETRIC, MODEM PCI NETWORK CONTROLLER, VIDEO CONTROLLER (VGA COMPATIBLE), DEIVICE UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN DEVICE and MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER... ned as soon as possible please help me...
Moderator edit: added detail to the subject.
Hi and welcome to the forum!
If you prefer to install manually, the drivers can be found here:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=2373F1G
Note that to install these drivers successfully, you must run the .exe C:\Drivers configurations... after the extraction of each and everyone of them.
You can also install the drivers automatically through ThinkVantage System Update:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/tvsu-update.html
I hope this helps.
I have a T41 2373, but also a JTU T42.2373 3HU. I've changed hard drives for some reason and now the Hibernate function stop working and I can't find the tab hibernation in the power inside the Control Panel Options. The hard drive has a clean installtion XP on the T42. Can someone please tell me where can I update the software?
I solved the problem of wireless connection by installing the newsest pilot.
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the forum,
Be sure to install the latest chipset drivers and management, as well as the video of the power.
Hello and seasons greetings to all.
I recently bought a used T42p (2373) on XP that came with 512 MB of RAM. He ran like an eagle, however, I decided to update my RAM with a 1 GB extra, which totals to 1.25 (a 1 GB more 256 MB). The 1 GB memory in question is a DDR-333 PC2700 333 MHz and 200 pins. I can't be sure what the 256 is, although I suspect that it was originally shipped with the laptop if that helps.
Windows recognizes the additional memory, but acted as I made the change. First, he takes his time on the Welcome screen when booting (about one minute to two minutes) and host process errors are frequent when I open certain programs and folders.
My question is that my situation memory is acceptable, should it work with the T42 or I would be better to remove the piece of 256 and it works on 1 GB? I searched around and haven't found the answers.
Hope you can help. Thanks in advance.
Just to let you know, I realized what was fast on my laptop. It wasn't a faulty memory but AVG Antivurus! Well. Furthermore, I believe that the host process errors are caused by my sound card, who chooses to work in his own time.
Get a Thinkpad sure taught me a lot! I must say after 4/5 weeks I love him to bits.
I'm pretty new to computers and obtained a T42 for my grandson. Please bear with me as I'm rather Techno challenged and fought now for 2 days, internet connection. Had to do a fresh install of XP SP2 and landed upward with a host other issues of devices with some yellow question marks. Downloaded most of pilots http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads with various success. Need serious help here please.
In Device Manager, I am sitting with two issues unresolved in the other devices section
Ethernet Controller PCI\VEN_14E4 & DEV_167D & SUBSYS_05771014 & REV11\4 & 111A1FD8 & 0 & 00E0
Network controller PCI VEN_8086 & DEV_4224 & SUSYS_1011808 & REV_05\4 & AD1B67F & 0 & 10F0
I downloaded different drivers but still cannot get to work. Not sure what drivers to use.
In another forum someone has replied
The Intel PRO/1000 card is an ethernet controller. Once you have installed and set up a network connection, you can download and install MS dotnetfx and Lenovo system update which will download and automatically install any other drivers. Or simply download them yourself and install them manually.
Not very useful I could not understand or thow to install the drivers I downloaded did not solve this problem and no other assistance to them when I have wondered what
Please if someone here will give us some directions step by step. The model is 2373-L77 if this will help
