T420 Ultrabay SATA speeds?

Sorry for what is without any doubt a double subject, but I get a lot of contradictory information from many conflicting sources. What kind of speeds I get using a HARD drive instead of the optical drive caddy in a T420? I read everything from SATA1 to SATA3, and I'd like a firm response until I have spend the money.

T420 and T430 have a SATAIII Ultrabay (6 Gbps) and location for primary hard drive, the slots mSATA on these machines are SATAII (3 Gbps).

I have an e072sa that I use to do some basic development on and played with the idea of putting an SSD inside.

Hi t3hbr3tt, welcome to the Forums of HP. I can't find the exact SATA revision, but page 103 of the maintenance and Service Guide shows 5 hard drives available, and they report SATA @ 1.1 GB/s. This makes it look as if it were 1 SATA.

I think that I also found the reference for the chipset AMD A76M CHT support SATA II.

You might be able to check the SATA using PC-Wizardversion. It is provided by the same people who provide CPU - ID.

It's a good program, but as with most free software, it is ad supported. Be cautious of links ad on the web page. The download link you are looking for is on the right, next to the yellow icon "2013.2.12 setup. After that, the purple download button will start the download. Once backup to your computer, read each screen carefully. I did not want to install the additional ad software supported it asks you to install. When I did it asked to install "Advanced System Protector", I disabled it before clicking on "continue".

Once it is installed, you can find the SATA support, by clicking on the icon of the motherboard. Then the Chipset. Below will populate a list. Search for "features on the device" which should contain the information you want.

  • Negotiated SATA speed

    O.P.

    Hello.

Try to establish if the optical SATA connection on an iMac in early 2009 will achieve 2 SATA speed of 3 GB with a 500 GB SSD crucial MX200. Have already tried a Sandisk ultra 2 with controller Marvell and only got a negotiated speed of SATA 1 which is 1.5 GB.

Speculation on the Internet is the optical connector is limited to 1 SATA but when I go into system report that it shows that the port is capable is SATA2, but negotiated to SATA1. Don't want to destroy this iMac again until I am sure that it will work to speed SATA 2.

    Thank you

The SATA connection in optical Bay is SATA 3.0 Gb/s. It is likely that your iMac is a Nvidia MCP79 SATA controller that will limit some SSD speeds 6 GB/s SATA 1 speed. The conflict focuses on Sandforce technology and the Marvell controller apparently uses Sandforce. Your is the second instance of the problem with a Marvell controller that I answered last week. Return the SSD for a refund and get a Samsung or go to OWC and get one of their 3Gb http://eshop.macsales.com/ SSD

  • HP Pavilion 15 laptop-n096ea - SATA speed?

    HI guys,.

Hoping for a little help, I searched here and google but can't find the answer if nobody knows the SATA speed for this laptop ((SATA I II III))

    Thanks for the help

    Rich

    Hi, rich:

Starting with the Mobile Intel 6 Series chipsets, support SATA III on at least two of the ports there.

Your model has a chipset Mobile Intel 8 series, so a hard drive SATA III would go to the full 6.0 Gbit/s spec.

  • R430 integrated sata speed?

I know that a good RAID device will be MUCH better however humor me.

    (2) is at the same speed when in (cough) "RAID" (fakeraid)

    Hello

SATA speed is determined by the IO controller. The R630 uses the X 99 C610 Intel chipset for i/o control. It supports up to 6 Gb/s. The maximum speed must be the same with the S130 because it still uses the chipset for i/o control.

The same with the main drive Bay and ultrabay slim sata adapter housing. Are these sata2 or sata3?

There is no whitelist for mSATA mSATA is SATAII.

Main hard drive and ultrabay = SATAIII

  • Re: Satellite P300-1AE - port SATA speed

    Hello

I have wonderd what sata port speed is on my laptop for a possible upgrade to an ssd.
I know that the chipset is able to use 3 Gbit/S, but I've also read that some company limited the seed to 1.5 Gbps for the extended battery life.
Given that drives hard base provided with the laptop are 1.5 GB/S, I was wondering if it was capped too?

    Hello!

Everyone knows, B480 Dual core model has an interface Sata II or Sata - III for HARD drive? What port mSata? This msata port can support 550 MB/s SSD at full speed?

    Thanks in advance.

Finally, I got my msata do HDD in Kingston. 60 GB device is plugged into port 0 and it supports Sata III. So I see that Lenovo has made a good choice to place the Sata III - connectiion on port 0, i.e. for msata SSD. Thanks to all and thanks to Lenovo for this laptop. I am really surprised, it's nice that laptop low cost is.

  • Impossible to get 3 SATA speed edge 15 laptop (0301-JDU)

    Hello

I have a model Edge 15 0301 - JDU I've updated with a SSD Crucial of M500. The reader can do 3 SATA but Crystal Info disc shows that it runs only 2 SATA (SATA/300). The laptop has the latest version of the BIOS (2.05) and the driver Intel SATA AHCI Controller (9.5.7.1002).

According to the specifications of Lenovo, this machine has a Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset which should have SATA 3. The original Hitachi harddisk is also a SATA 3 drive, what corresponds to the technical data sheet, Lenovo.

How can I get the SSD to work at SATA 3 speeds?

    Thank you

    Mark

Yes, the convention of naming generation SATA can confuse a lot of people.

I'm glad that the confusion is cleared up. The E420 Edge was the first to use the SATAIII (6 Gbps).

  • What connectors SATA speed do I have on my motherboard?

    Hello

This is my first time on this forum posting.

I would like to find on what SATA connector should I "plug" a new HARD drive on my motherboard.

What SATA connector is best to have the primary/boot HARD drive connected to?

The PC I have is quite old now, and I don't even know if the motherboard has SATA II or even SATA III (speed) connections.

    The motherboard is:
    MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E)

Here is the link to the HP specifications page.
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02014355

On the list of specifications for the storage, it lists just x 4 SATA connectors.

I have reason to believe that this means that they are all only SATA I (speed) connectors?

It would be great if someone could let me know.

    Thank you very much

    Ian

You are the very welcome, Ian.

Yes, it's the correct way to get the disks attached.

  • T420s UltraBay battery 57Y4536 (old) vs A 0, 36310 (new)

I want to buy UltraBay battery for mine t420s and these 2 options:

    57Y4536 (old) Euro-105

    http://www.Verkkokauppa.com/Fi/product/53279/crsbf

    36310 A 0 (New) - 150 euros

    http://www.Verkkokauppa.com/Fi/product/12878/dhfrs

The problem with the first battery cheaper on the referenced site above t420s is not listed as a laptop taken in charge. But when I check these:

    http://shop.Lenovo.com/ISS_Static/WW/EMEA/merchandising/PDF/en/T420s_DS_EN.PDF

    http://shop.Lenovo.com/us/sitelets/batteries

    http://www.nbwn.com/products/20937/Notebook-Accessories/battery-power-supply/battery-Lenovo-IBM/Leno...

The first battery is clearly indicated for t420s.

I would be grateful if you help me to answer following questions:

    1. is it more age compatible with t420s 57Y4536 ?

2 are there advantages of the new model on the old model? Is - this block?

I have defenetelly feel uncomfortable to pay 150 euros for the new model, if the old 105 Euro model works very well.

Both batteries are basically the same, the 57... We're older, without the authentication chip (does not work in T430s), the 0 a... one is more recent, with authentication chip (also works under T430s).

I use T420s with the 57Y4536. It's a Li - Pol battery. I bet that the new is also Li - Pol because Li - Pol is the only technology bringing cubic, not cylindrical, which is necessary for this battery.

  • HP 15-e020sa SATA speed

Hi, I'm wanting to know if my phone will support a SATA III (6 Gb/s) SSD SATA III speeds or support it only speed SATA II?

    Laptop HP Pavilion 15-e020sa

    Product number: E0Z62EA

That is because there is probably a sata II hard drive that HP installed in your laptop.

Highly unlikely that they put a sata III lead in it.

Ask yourself this... Why HP would connect a sata II port to the reader if there are ports of sata III available?

Product specifications state that your laptop comes with a 1 TB drive 5400.

I googled the part number for the drive of your laptop for repair and it is indeed only a SATA II.

Pretty sure who reads player features (not port). If you are sure that the connected player is SATA3-600, be sure it is on the #0 SATA ports or #1 (lowest number).

In addition, hybrid hard drives are much slower than real SSD. And even if it is SATA3-600... you will never see speeds anywhere near maximum limit.
