  Some questions; Why you have updated the BIOS?
  Are you sure you used the right BIOS?

  In my opinion you shouldn't t to update anything if the laptop works properly!

  However, try to access the BIOS, set the default settings and save the settings before exiting the BIOS.
  If this does not help, I would pick up the laptop with the Toshiba Recovery CD.

• L420 screen brightness does not change with the function keys

  I came across your post about the brightness of the display and wanted to help!

  Try searching for the Device Manager in the Start Menu.  Then expand the monitors section and see if you have an option for Generic PnP monitor.  If so, do a right-click on him and generic PnP monitor enable, if not already.  Now, check to see if you can adjust the brightness.  If you're still having problems, then try to see the following resource and let me know how it goes:

  like many of you, I think, I need the screen saver protected by start-up automatically when I let my M400 unattended for some time.
  Everything works fine if the bluetooth is introduced to the wide. Otherwise... the screen saver does not start automatically.

  The proposed solution is to kill a process called PCMsomething, or download an update windows named KBsomething and install it.

  I actually a bluetooth wireless (non-Microsoft) combined with my PC mouse, but no PCMsomething process is executed and, although my mouse is turned off, the screen saver organizers can't work until I turned off the bluetooth of the M400 too. In addition, windows update does not suggest a KBsomething patch to install (maybe because my mouse is not a Microsoft one?).

  For this application, Toshiba has designed the FN + F1 feature to lock your laptop.
  When you want to leave your laptop using FN + F1 and lock it.

  It is a lot easier than this solution with screen saver.

  Well, usually the common screensaver that are pre-installed on the operating system to work properly. I put t know what screensaver you use, but I guess that you have installed a 3rd party screensaver. In this case you should check these settings.   I just got the x120e and I have been through the fixed auto-éclaircissant himself. After that, I hit the Fn + Home and adjusted to my preference. He was not on the charger when I did so I was in a dark room I had the brightness down. Later in the day, I plugged it in to charge and I went to make it brighter. The brightness does not change however. All other agents Fn + F keys work. But not both for brightness. The strange thing is, I shut down the computer, whereas standby mode, then opens it again and it was really brilliant and I had to almost squint, but once again the keys did not work to lower it.   Just so I'm clear, updated you the graphics cards in Device Manager? You have access to a Windows XP installation disc. If so, follow the steps in this document to make a scan of the SFC. This analysis will attempt to repair or replace any missing or corrupted system files.
