    Hey

I bought at a flea market T61 a couple of weeks. That's why I had a T60. I replaced the bio by an OCZ Vertex 96 GB HARD drive. I put the SSD in the 'new' T61, but it start a bit slower then my T60. I did everything what you need to do to properly use a SSD (ACHI, windows, TRIM, indexation,... etc.)

I made an update of the BIOS a few days ago, but it has not really helped a lot... Is it worth / worth the risk to update the Beta BIOS that allows speeds of SATA II? (or just "rumors"?)

    Then I got this too:

There is no "beta" bios, there is only the official Lenovo bios that disabled your controller hard drive SATA2, forcing them to run in SATA1 mode, or a bios changed when a 3rd party defeated that lenovo has done to turn off the controller. I will not recommend you should use because if you have to ask, then you don't know enough to make an informed decision, but if you want to get sata2 speeds, you will need BIOS of middleton. If you're resourceful, you won't be hard to find.

Your system should boot fairly quickly with an SSD, if it is not, there may be some settings slow you down. Try resetting the bios default settings (F9) and then save and exit (F10) and see if that helps.

  • T61 HDD no operating system validates

I work at a major University (Paris is) and got a professional T61 6466 - 5DG. It was untouched since November 2007 because I was very happy with my T42 unfortunately struck by lightning through the telephone network. The T61 has been implemented under XP Lenovo in September 2010. I had 2 or 3 times a month a blue screen with something like "attempt to write to the memory. Victory to protect your system has stopped... Reboot... "and I did not like (I tried to build a personal network). "I received last week after the start of"HARD disk not initialized", I restarted and still last Friday the same on a blue screen dark after the Lenovo logo page, but it was the end: the T61 starts an Intel startup routine and said: valid no operating system on the HARD drive. The HARD drive is a Seagate Momentus ST9120822AS 5400-3 (ASM P/N 42 T 1306 and 42 T 1307 FRU). Connected trough is a USB adapter is only seen under XP in Device Manager and is "not initialized". A recovery tool to rebuild the file system (and I could copy the my important Documents) but lacked the FAT32 partition hidden (seen by the same tool on the drive HARD internal to an another T61 6466 - 5DG of a colleague). HARD drive through the Seagate Seatools long generic test and I am more than puzzled. Of course, I did not burn the DVD from the hidden partition: with a new labtop...

We got in my T61 University many of the same brand and I checked 4: it's the same HDD Seagate and I found on the Web talks of early failures of Seagate Barracuda AND Momentus HDD. His colleagues are not afraid (IBM/Lenovo has been chosen on my suggestion for its reliability: I got the family 380 without any problem). Can you help me?

Apparently there was a big bug in the software of these hard drives: Seagate explained they just sell the discs as OEM and software disk has been mounted by Lenovo. On the Lenovo support site, there is a software update for the discs. If it can help someone...

Comment to Moderator: Order number deleted to protect members of wrongdoing.

You simply replace the fan or the fan/radiator?

If you replaced 15.4 "heatsink with a widescreen 14.1" radiator you should have noted an obvious difference in the parties. I'm also curious to know if you have replaced the thermal paste on the CPU and the GPU chip?

  • T61 does not start

I saw major emergency and in full panic mode.

EU back from lunch and my T61 screen was black. Handlebar space bar and the mobile mouse does not wake. I used the power button / stop to stop.

The computer will not contribute to that. When I push the power button / green lights appear and it is as if it was about to start, then I get a series of 3 beeps. Long-term follow-up of two short films (beeeep beep beep). That's all.

I removed the battery and let it set for awhile, battery has been replaced and got the same result. I was not able to get anything to display on screen - just three beeps when I try to start.

    I have a T61 with Windows 7 (7662CTO).

    Help, please!

  • T61 with MultiDrive will start from CD, but not DVD

    Hello.

I have a little problem - I am installing Windows7 on my T61 (currently it is running Ubuntu) and I can't boot from the installation DVD.

I changed the boot order and it will boot very happily on a CD - I tried to use the utility to update firmware of drive that comes as an ISO CD - motorcycle boots very happily and says my firmwqare to date.

No chance with a (real) WIn7 install (32-bit) DVD, but - it debits for a while, then finally gave up on the MultiDrive and ends up booting from the HARD drive.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you

    Youra.

Looks like a damaged disk, or a bad drive. Try the drive in another computer and if possible, try replacing it with another drive on this computer.

If she starts on a CDrom, it starts from a DVDrom, as long as the drive and the drive are good.

  • My ThinkPad T61 VERY VERY VERY and I mean VERY slow at the start why?

    Hello

I just bought ThinkPad T61 brand new, for $500

    Speed: 2.0

    Memory: 2048

I mean this should be pretty quickly.

in any case, it takes about 5 to 6 min just to start upward and its windows XP Server 2003 with Service Pack 3

and I only have one installed program, its air and nothing else, the computer is still slow like that, even my 2 friends bought the same computer and as slow as mine, his

and if you guys wonder why its cheap, because in my University they sell it at this price for everyone (even the poor guy) to buy a good laptop for a good price.

So what do you of the problem, my friend told me that his perhaps because of windows server 2003 with SP3, but I do not know, and when my University gives me the laptop, they don't give you a CD format, so it's saying I can't get it back to the original Setup, but I think to buy a new CD the problem I can't find XP more, every store I see have Vista only.

so do you think I'll buy Vista so I could have a fast computer instead of a SLWOOOO, and if I go to Vista, is touch pad, the track point and the finger print thing will continue to operate, (I want to say is a drivers for windows Vista)

I know I write a lot, but please help me guys to get the best out of my computer.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

Congratulations on your new Thinkpad! And Yes, it will be fast enough.

I would suggestt to uninstall Antivirus like Norton or to get an update for Norton 2009.

AntiVir and AVG are doing a good job too. Uninstall firewall thirdparty, if it is installed.

If you install Vista then, we will work all programs. Install Vista and download the program

    Homepage of Lenovo system update.

It will install all the necessary drivers for you, even for XP, if basic a copy.

For more information, read own Vista installation NB guide

  • Satellite C850 - start from the number of DVD - replace Win8 by Win7U

Got a new C850-1JZ yesterday and I am trying to replace the pre-installed Win 8 with Windows 7. I created the recovery media (3 DVDs).

The laptop makes me 'crazy' because it seems to block any attempt to start anything else than Win8 preinstalled hard disk.

1.) Inserted Win 7 Ultimate DVD and tried to start, wouldn't boot from the disc.
Loaded 2), Advanced menu start and I tried to boot from ODD, wouldn't boot from the disc. (The options are LAN, USB, HDD and ODD (assuming that it's optical disc))
3.) regular Changed priority boot bios settings to boot from the BIZARRE first, then HARD drive, wouldn't boot disk.
4.) learned he is a 'bunch of security protection' mechanism activated by default in the bios. Turned it off. The machine starts to load ODD and says "Windows is loading files" and then hangs. It is a Win7 Ultimate original MS disk from the Microsoft store, no scratches. Makes no sense. In fact, we have 2 of them, so I tried another, same result.
5.) thought screw that, let's just put the hard drive of the other computer (T61) here then and clean again to set up another time. Replace hard drive with another hdd sata who has Win 7 ultimate installed and configured. When booting from the hard drive, it says 'No BONES' found and restarts. At the start of ODD, it starts with windows is again loading files and then freezes.

What kind of other settings of extra protection/virus blocker/stupid am I missing here? It's confusing to me. Thank you.

I managed to install Win7 on my U940 and everything I've done is actually described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2C03F80002R01.htm

  • T61 screen becomes very dark

I had this T61 for almost 6 years. Now, I turn on the laptop, the screen is very dark and nothing is displayed. But when I close the screen and open again, the screen starts to work with the color red on bottom. This will keep a few seconds, then it flashes and go dark again. Meanwhile, the laptop will automatically transfer mode 'sleep'. Can someone give me some suggestions on what do I do please?

    Thank you very much

    Welcome to the forum!

The backlight (CCFL) in your screen is on its last leg, the reddish color is a dead giveaway.

Your T61 needs a new LCD.

  • The surveillance T61 Nvidia display driver 2147213312 installation error

    Hello

I just downloaded latest driver Nvidia for the T61.

But how when I try to install make sure monitoring PC on line how I get error 2147213312.

Older version of the driver work fine without error when installing this way.

Why I need to install the drivers in this way, it is only to use the Altiris deployment solution to install the drivers for new computers.

I found the solution to this, but this must be done by specialist driver Lenovo.

DoInstall fails to launch the installer in Silent Mode Description: If you use DoInstall with the "-s" command line parameter to start an installation of the child in silent mode, it will fail with the error code:2147213312. However, launches the installation of the child in normal mode with the empty command line string works as expected. Workarounds: remove all the dialog boxes and UI for the installation of the child, or use LaunchAppAndWait to run Setup of the child. Status: InstallShield confirmed that it is a bug in 6.03 IS.
FIXED in IS 6.10. http://www.installsite.org/pages/en/bugs_is60.htm someone knows alternatives to install this driver of surveillance?

    Found the solution for myself.

Seems that this latest version of the nvidia driver is made a different version of installshield.

Laters driver install if you try to install it as \\server\drivers\nvidia\setup.exe - n s fron network path

You need to make the script first copies the files to the local disk and then install it like this:

    XCOPY /S "\\server\drivers\nvidia\*.*" c:\drivers\nvidia\ /Y

    c:\drivers\nvidia\setup.exe - n s

I hope this helps someone else who is using altiris or similar.

  • Cursor jumps on T61 even with disabled TouchPad

The cursor on my T61 will suddenly jump to a new place on any page (Word, e-mail, VBA) I'm editing. Sometimes, it's as if an invisible gremlin has turned the wheel of scrolling the mouse, because (according to the application), the screen can jump by the amount it would move by a simple click of the scroll wheel.

I see other posts that the TouchPad can be at fault, but I have as my off completely. It happens that the computer is connected or not anchored and if I use a wired mouse or a wireless mouse. I am running Vista Ultimate and I think that everything is up to date on the machine. The problem started about a month or two ago.

    Any ideas? Thank you!

Update... Thanks again, Andy. The jumping seems to be stopped! What a pleasure.
