Tab (and Windows) restore + restore previous Session deactivated after upgrading to Firefox 29

After the upgrade to Firefox 29 all restore option is disabled
I did this step before post question
1. check setting history if it is not explicit story after closing
2 check about: config to change possible
3. search internet and here for a similar problem with this update, FIREFOX 29

but I could not find something
Firefox Restore tab or windows after close or even previous session
Even after crash firefox did not restore tab or I could select from the menu

Please consider creating a backup of all files affected just by applying the following steps.

In '% appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\' is a file called < something > .default (this is the your firefox profile folder)

1. close Firefox

2. in this folder, delete the following files:

  • sessionCheckpoints.json
  • sessionstore.js + variations such as sessionstore - 1.js, sessionstore.bak, etc.

3. restart Firefox

Session restore should now work even though your last session will be always lost. In case you still have questions, try to disable the session restore feature before you apply above steps and he subsequently reactivation.

How can I get that back?

You could try story ('Alt + S') > "Restore preivous session", then also of the story then 'restore Windows' > 'restore all windows.

You get back them or re-create them, I would suggest that you save all in a folder of bookmarks for your restore them immediately and pin them each, or altogether if you have the extension «Multiple Tab Handler»

Although I don't have a problem with them disappear when I run Firefox, they have always seemed like a potential problem over time. I use them, but I often start their from a folder Favorites so are 'clean' only one page by app - tab.

  • After the last update of Firefox, browser will not restore previous session after accident/quit. It restores the old pages, not newer. And no ' oops! embarrassing page.

Has taken my MacBook Pro to repair and they have updated my software, including apparently Firefox. I have FireFox 50.0.2 Mac OS x 10.9.5. Now I no longer get the "Oops!" It's embarrassing"page after a crash or a restart, and when I click on 'restore previous session', Firefox opens again the old pages, which some I no longer need and do not open most of my recent pages. I think I clicked on all the right settings, including "remember my story." Someone knows what to do? Thank you!

  • tabs and windows from last session won't load

When I start up the computer and open Mozilla everything that happens is a blank tab what I had of the previous session are gone. I tried to go into the options and under general to open them and that doesn't seem to work, and when I go to my top menu bar and look under history, it shows nothing. Before this last update, that's how I restored a lost session when necessary. I'm just at a loss to understand what is happening now.

Hi happyfrog, assume you found the .js file at least one that looks promising in the sense that it is about the time when it would have contained the missing tabs. Here's how you get Firefox to restore THIS file instead of the most recent.

    (1) the folder settings (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox using the method applicable for this post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1061735#answer-727719

    (2) If Firefox still works: leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • (menu bar) File > Exit

Break while Firefox ends his cleaning... This may take a few minutes.

    (3) and rename sessionstore.js something like sessionstore.old

    (4) copy the file that you want to try (old previous.js or other) in this profile folder and rename sessionstore.js

    (5) run Firefox. If your session is not restored automatically, use history > restore previous session. Firefox should display the tabs from the file that you copied in the profile folder.

  • Rename the session restore backup does not work, how can I restore previous session after a crash?

Computer crashed and Firefox don't remember my session. It happened a few weeks ago while I had looked at how to fix and I learned from my mistake and saved the sessionstore.bak file before restarting Firefox. I closed Firefox, deleted sessionstore.js and renamed .bak to js but to start what it does not always restore session. Previous restoration on the history tab still grayed out, about: sessionrestore revealed without tab. I even tried to copy this file and also naming copies as sessionstore-1 & 2. How to operate?

You can try to restore a previous version of the file sessionstore.js or sessionstore.bak. You must rename the .bak to .js file to make Firefox see this session.

You can also test problems with Session Restore:

  • 'Restore previous Session' unavailable

I found 2 similar questions for 10 months ago on forum, ch. w / 25-30 additional people with the prob. 2 weeks ago, I asked about 2 problems, were unable to fix them. Now focus on this one only. Session restore doesn't work after quitting and restore previous session, recently closed tabs, recently closed all gray windows. I tried everything short of uninstall/reinstall and seq. was suggested to create new profile w/o corrupted files, but I have no idea what is corrupt. I'm not a geek, but can generally follow instructions. However, my concentration is impaired, if I really fear the worst.

I have eliminated all the items that you specified. I tested it a few pages opening and stop smoking, and session restore is available, but not automatic.

In ADDITION to the original (default) profile, my favorites now appear automatically, instead of having to toggle in the menu of the toolbar in each window. It is the success! AND, "Recently closed tabs" is now available in the original profile. I've just updated Beta 12... ; would be - what my favorites are now working properly and restore the tabs... Well, I just leave and reopened, another update took place, and now I can restore session. Maybe the problem has been all along in the earlier beta version? (The following questions were written before the session restore is available.) "Perhaps they are no longer relevant.) And finally, I quit and reopened and automatically reloaded pages. Maybe the problem is resolved. Still, I would appreciate your opinion on the probable cause of issues.

Will I need to download each extension of Mozilla, or can I copy and paste from the old profile? Also, how can I get my story in the new profile.

I have attached a screenshot showing how to select restore automatic session just above the setting of the Home Page where it says "When Firefox starts".

In the process of cleaning up my office, I have switched my keyboard. I got the browser window open to ESPN3 in a replay of College football. My keyboard is a keyboard shortcut to open new tabs. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the shortcut key declined over 150 times, opening a new tab for each. In addition, each tab to open a new window pop up game. I opened the Task Manager and stop the process. When opening Firefox again, it automatically opens all tabs and windows again before I can do anything. So... after the termination of the process down again once I restarted the computer. And now, the same thing happens early upward. so... Shut the computer down. Same thing. so... I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled. Same thing again. I am at a loss. Please advise!

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the session data.
Delete sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and groups of tabs open and closed tabs (back) to get lost and you will have to re-create them (take note or bookmarks if possible).
