  I bought this from Acer Aspire ATC-705-UR58 desktop computer the day before yesterday.  Twice when setting things up (e-mail, etc.) the computer tells me I have to reboot for updates to take effect.  When I let "Restart" and on restart, I have the Acer splash screen but then the screen turns white.  There is no light hard drive so I can't say whether or not something is whatever it is.  I waited for 5 or 10 minutes looking at a blank screen, but nothing happens.  I learned that if I turn off, unplug at the back, reconnect all cables, I can then power on and everything works fine.

  I found only this to happen during a "Restart" and so far, the not it only from a cold start.  I saw there is an update of the bios of some Aspire laptops had this problem but I apparently have the latest bios.

  JordanB and others who responded to my call for help.  I FOUND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG!

  In my previous post, I said I was taking this back for Exchange in the morning.  I uninstalled my e-mail, the OpenOffice, the chrome and the printer.  Deleted all my personal information, bookmarks and documents and was about to get ready to fight to the top when I but I would try one last thing.

  I took another monitor and plugged in and it works perfectly every time now. The monitor I was using was a VIZIO that served with 2 different workstations and expands the display for your laptop.  He worked to find on those, but it won't be on this Acer.  I hooked a Viewsonic and it makes all the difference.  The two monitors are the same size, same resolution.

  I reinstalled everything now to how I had it and it still works perfectly.  I rebooted a dozen times and never had a glitch.

  Well, I know that the issue is long-term... believe me, it's a long, but as they say, the devil is in the details. Anywho, the question is, my grandfather has a HP laptop, which for two years has been able to run through a Linksys switch to his router and connect its printers to his laptop. About two months ago it suddenly doesn't work like that. Now, it works fine if it plugs directly into the router/Ethernet. My uncle suggested that the switch was bad, but after testing the same port, cable and all, the switch worked well for him.   If you purchased Word on CD, it's no big deal; just reinstall it after the factory restore. If it was bought online, copy the file downloaded to a CD and then reinstall it later.

  Is there a particular reason, why you want to do a restore complete? Have you problems? If so, you can try asking here on how to fix them and do not have to do a restore, reinstall all your programs and all of the updates and service pack 1.

  I understand that you're not audio playback when you play videos on the Acer computer while the same videos may sound good on another computer. It would be useful that you could clarify a number of things.

  a. what application you use to play the videos?

  b. all videos have the same issue?

  c. don't you make changes to the computer before the show?

  I have a laptop Acer Aspire 5044 WLMI.  I had to replace (no backup of the OS) HARD drive.  I replaced it with a 120 GB HDD WD Caviar blue. I don't have a boot Acer drive, there was no disc with the laptop when I bought it. I tried to install XP and it goes through an initial process of loading the drivers (I think).  The screen then goes to a black screen that says "STARTING WINDOWS", but there is no visible activity and it remains like that until I turn it off.  I let it sit for 8 hours once.  Acer no longer provides a recovery disc for this laptop.  I think it is perhaps a matter of hardware/software owner who cannot be resolved by Acer, but I thought I would ask this group in any case.  Someone at - it ideas?
