  First I tried in windows / removal of unwanted software programs. Installed an adblocker for FF
  Then I downloaded the adware 3.8 removal tool and the problem is almost solved. Still a few details could be improved, but I can live with that.

  I think someone took advantage of the installation of FF and it makes any other malware on my computer.

  Looks like you have set browser.newtab.url to Subject: House which opens the default home page in each new tab. The simplest thing to do is to reset this preference so that instead of the new tab page:

  1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press ENTER.

I also disabled 'include suggestions Safari' from the 'smart search' field under my Safari preferences (see below); restarted my computer and the problem persists.
