Taskbar and Start Menu customization errors
I turned on my computer today, and my taskbar has been replaced with the classic windows style. I tried to go back to windows vista style and I received this error message. "The Visual styles could not be applied." When I chose the option of windows vista Basic, the preview screen was black and it displays this message when I tried to apply and change. He also did the same for the option of windows aero.
I tried to get into the command prompt and running a scan (sfc/scannow). I restarted my computer 3 or 4 times, including after completing the scan. How can I fix this so that I can choose the option of windows vista basic?
Hello
Try to manually start the service responsible for the aero feature.
Follow these steps:
a. Click Start and type cmd in the start search box.
b. right-click on command prompt and select "Run as Administrator".
Type the following command and press ENTER:
net start uxsms

Thanks for the suggestions... I used method 1 and 2. Method 1 does not work and the method 2 worked until it got to the point when it asked me to insert my installation CD... I don't not. This computer did not come with a CD. Installation info are on a D drive. How do you it?
Hello EJHX,
You can do this by changing the special folder of the Source registry path. You can use the Update to do, or you can do it manually.
[1] method: The use of tune-up to set up special folders
- Open the integrator of the tune-up or the State Bar Directory
- Select the Customize Windows from Start Tune-Up Center
- Click options preferences and behaviors
- In the left pane, select system under Administration
- In the right pane, select special folders tab controller
- Select "Windows configuration files" in the "Special feature" column in the list, then click on 'change '.
- Find the folder and click OK when finished
- Click OK again to save the settings
Screenshot: http://i45.tinypic.com/2jf0y68.jpg[2] method: Using Windows Registry Editor to configure the SourcePath value
- On the start menu, select "Run."... »
- Insert: regedit.exe
- In the left pane, navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft Computer\ My
\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup - In the right pane, double-click the value SourcePath "' which is a string value
- Insert the desired location, and then click OK to save the settings

I don't know how to recover my volume icon - can anyone help? Thank you!
Hello
If one of the system icons is out, you can reactivate the as follows:
Right-click on the taskbar and select Properties. This will bring up the tab "properties of menu taskbar and start. It's where you mentioned, it is gray. It is very well... From there, you can click on Customize button in the icon section. Look for the icon that you are missing, and check the status. The type of report should read "Hide icon and notifications", change that to "Show icon and notifications".
If this does not resolve the issue most likely you have a problem with group policy on your machine. This can be corrected by following the instructions on the following link:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/01/01/fix-network-clock-volume-and-power-battery-system-icons-missing-with-disabled-or-grayed-out-check-box-options/

I use Windows 7 Home Premium on an AMD Athlon (TM) II X 4 630 2.80 GHz with 6.0 GB of RAM (64 bit OS). PC is up-to-date with the latest updates and use Norton Anti Virus.
I used this PC for several months with no problems. After doing some research in my menu of the taskbar Windows Explorer and start icons have become corrupted. The links always work but do not show the right program.
I tried several things to fix this. I removed everything in the start menu and taskbar, rebooted, added a few back but the problem still exists. I deleted the icon cache file (renamed to db.old), restarted, problem still exist. I made a recovery of a checkpoint system before the problem was still not fixed. When I go to small icons, the problem disappears. The problem only seems to appear when you use large icons in the bar of tasks and the start menu.
Based on what I've tried so far is there any other suggestions on how to fix this?
This tutorial is to rebuild the icon cache when the cache is corrupt.
http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/49819-icon-cache-rebuild.html
Option One is easier.
If that doesn't do anything for you, please repost to Windows 7 forum, section office and customization:

My computer is Windows 7-64 bit.
I recently installed the Moon pale x 64 on the right site.
Everything works fine, except that the "icon" of the particles in the taskbar and start menu is not the blue moon. I wonder why this is and how I can change it.
This occurred during the installation of the particles.Best is to ask PaleMoon support about it.
http://Forum.Palemoon.org/PaleMoon is not an official project of Mozilla, is a 3rd generation of part 'Community' that is "powered by Mozilla".

b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
Explorer.exed. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.
Step 2:
Test the issue in a new user account.

Hi Rehman,
· Did you change to the computer?
· What is the antivirus installed on the computer program?
· The start menu is empty?
· Other user accounts have the same problem?
Check to see if the following is useful.
Method 1: You can run the Microsoft Safety Scanner to check the infection by the virus. Check out the following link to do so.
Microsoft Safety Scanner - free online tool for PC health and safety
Method 2: Check to see if this article helps you to the question of the desktop icons.
Your desktop icons are missing in Windows XP
Method 3: Log on to another user account and check for the issue. If you do not have another user account and then create a and look for the same thing.
