Technical question of indexation of Spotlight search

I wonder about how the spotlight indexing process occurs and if maybe it's the cause of the problems of start and stop and the kernel panics.

When live, I got used to print some articles in PDF format for later reading offline - or when I get the chance.  In November I started going through many articles and deleting or filing - and in the case of their deposit - I was deleting pages that were released just junk, so I did that article.

If the PDF files have been indexed for content when I moved to different folders - or altered and saved - and if all goes well index deleted when I deleted them - would it have caused a problem when I stop this process.

I got a stop where the system remained in market (light on mac pro 2008) but not asleep - then force a shutdown.   I had a tension where the projector showed that indexing - for about 10 seconds - without report.

The console logs showed messages that a process completed- and kernel panic with no ID is.

So is indexing made by MDS and MDS worker - and how will I know when indexing is complete prior to the stoppage.

I changed the spotlight preferences to search only files - removed all the rest - but will they even indexed.

And why - if the work must be done before the power off - Apple is not only to display a message on the screen!

As the first users think seem to complain after an update - how to slow their macs (really busy busy) are - if it's just a bad thing worse.

I'm on Snow Leopard - on Mac Pro 2008

Additional information - I always stop after use as no point in leaving a system on when only used a few hours a day.

My DirectoryService.error.log shows that inadequate completely new closures in 2008.

Standard use - after - as the power outlet Strip which is controlled by a wall switch - I cut that.

Something was still running and stop feeding ended this work - only that he might be the index - which I really do not use for detail on a PDF unless I want to scan something while it is open.

I am now waiting the minute 1 stop & look at the light of itty bitty on the front of the tower to use it is over.

My drive is less than 50% of the full - last cleaning was to make sure that it stays like that.

  • Can I restore a note deleted if it appears always in my spotlight search?

Please be patient with me, I must admit from the outset, I have limited knowledge of IOS and how everything on my duties for the Ipad.

Here's my situation. I was editing in a note above in my notes app and somehow one click accidentally deleted all the text in the note and therefore the note itself. The note was of significant importance. I mean, life turns on without her, but I really need this note. I immediately started searching to see if there was anyway to cancel the text deleted, but nothing I've tried has worked. I then looked to see when was my last backup and it was yesterday, but I don't know what time. I believe that the note was created before yesterday, but if my backup restored the note that he wouldn't of course understand the additions I made the remark today and I really like to get that support as well. So I did a spotlight search, and the note appeared in my search for spotlight. For a moment, I was very optimistic, but when I click on the note it immediately opens the application of note and the note does not appear here. So my question is, since the spotlight search shows that the note that this means that the deleted note is still somewhere on my Ipad and might be restored? Or is my best bet an Icloud restore backup and live with simply everything I wrote in the note today disappeared?

Also, is there a way I can avoid this in the future? Perhaps a delete to confirm I can switch so he asked at least before deleting altogether?

Thanks much for any help you can give!

Have you looked into the recently deleted section Notes?

Your last backup date and time will appear in the settings > iCloud > iCloud backup > on.

Your best bet would be to restore the backup. What you see in the Spotlight search is the cached file. Some third-party software, might be able to retrieve the note, but I still think that restoring the backup, then adding your changes back would be the best solution.

There is no way to stop what you were doing with iCloud Notes unfortunately from iOS 9.2.1. You get a warning on the Notes, but with iCloud notes if you tap the trash icon, the Note is deleted. Until Apple decides to add a warning before iCloud Notes are deleted, simply to be careful when you type and you select.

All notes that are so important, can be copied and then kept as notes the so that they are also on the iPad when you remove icloud.

  • How restore/recover deleted notes (which also appears in the spotlight search)?

OK so here's what happened, I was normally using my iPhone 5 (ios 9.3.2) so I decided to go to the notes... and then all of a sudden the notes app crashed and when I opened it again, all my NOTES DISAPPEARED. I don't know what caused this problem, but I know that my iPhone had full accumulation in time.

But when I tried to search for deleted notes, I noticed they were still burst into the spotlight search, but every time I press it, it just opens the notes app and that's all...

Is there anyway to restore my notes, because they are very important... Any answer would be useful (I'm desperate)

P.S. I do not have a backup icloud, or computer

Without a backup, my hope for you is that these notes had been managed by an email service, and most of the time, they are even if the user is not aware of this. Check that all your related email accounts work correctly on your iPhone. If you have access to a computer, it can be useful to compare what is on your iPhone for what you see in your email account on the Web site of the account. So for gmail, you would go to gmail and access notes. Yahoo, you would do the same.

I strongly suggest you keep regular backups for situations like this. Backup your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch - Apple Support

If your notes are managed by iCloud, you can contact Apple for support and service - Apple supported. You can then ask to speak with security accounts and request their assistance in the recovery of all notes iCloud can successfully and have been deleted somehow. A backup is not required for this synchronization service.

I realize see your notes in the Spotlight can be a head scratcher, but Spotlight is indexed to refer to files in their original location. Think of it as these shortcuts you can do on your desktop. You click on the shortcut and it will take you to the respective application that would hold this content. In this case, it would be the notes you see is empty. Spotlight, itself, is not keep these notes.

  • Turn off Spotlight search in iCloud drive

I have over 40 GB on my drive to iCloud and whenever I am connected to the Web, kernel task uses all CPU. I suspect that Spotlight indexes my iCloud drive and check, I tried to put the iCloud drive in the folder to be excluded but could not find a way. You know a way to disable Spotlight search in iCloud drive? Why is it not possible to use the index as it is and not having to constantly update :-(

I doubt that the problem is caused by that, but it is not an area where I am all expertise (i.e., what I know).

I could however add iCloud drive for exclusions of Spotlight. Use the menu go to the Finder and hold down the Option key to make the visible library; While continuing to hold down the Option key, click library. Release the Option key. Drag the folder "Mobile Documents" (which is the local copy to iCloud by car) from the Finder in system preferences > Projectors > Privacy window.

  • IOS10 problem - cannot change a contact found using spotlight search

    IOS10 problem

Not sure if there is a specific option that is put in place for that, but I noticed that I can't edit a contact found spotlight search as I used to do before the upgrade. Before, when you click contact, if the result of the research, I'd be on the real contact app and could then modify as needed. Now I see only the contact and start a call or message or a video, or post or share but not to change the real record!

For me, it's a pain, because it forces me to go back to contact app, highlight the contact before making changes to this.

I just reliased the same problem this morning and it's complete in the anus pain, why would you take a feature on, I use it everyday for work by adding in customer emails etc and now I have to go through contacts! :-(

  • Get the path after Spotlight search

When I find a doc via Spotlight search, I know that I can click on it to access.  But how to get the full path of the file so I know the exact path where the file is located?

Just hold down the command key to display the full path. The path appears at the bottom of the pop-up window of Spotlight.

  • How to get the button "Search Web" on all spotlight searches?

I have an iPhone running iOS 9.3.2,and 6s and something that I noticed is that I no longer get the "Web search" button for all of my spotlight search. Here are some photos to show you what I mean.

In this first photo, I typed in 'claire underwood house of cards' and should reach the "Web search" button at the bottom so that the query could be entered into Google as any other search. However, I noticed that this button is not pop up for stretched from the search terms such as "claire underwood house of cards" in the way which he used to. I don't know if this is perhaps the result of an update, but I don't see the button more. I could easily just go into Safari and type it in, but it is not as intuitive.

If I type in a shorter like simply "claire underwood' search, as shown in the second picture below, I get a lot of results, as well as the button"Search Web". I used to be able to enter anything on stage and immediately search the Internet which is much faster. No idea how to solve this problem?

Figured it out. For some reason when I got Bing Web enabled in Spotlight search results, it would not view long queries and leave the field blank. It turned off but kept the other apps I like to search and it works perfectly. I didn't care much for Bing, but it should be fixed. Now it makes it easier to just search Google directly from the home screen.

  • Spotlight search with iCloud problem

I want to find emails and notes on my MacBook, I wrote about iCloud.  However on my MacBook if I do a Spotlight search in the iCloud word she includes all the notes, events, reminders, etc. which are saved on iCloud versus showing that the documents that contain the term iCloud.  He will show me the documents that do not have the word iCloud anywhere in them.  This seems to be a problem in OS X, because when I do a search on an iPhone it works correctly and it shows only documents or events that contain the word iCloud.  Apple, why have you implemented this way Spotlight search and plan you set?

  • Spotlight search in compressed .zip files

I was told that Mac, including users with the Mavericks can search files in compressed .zip files. I had an experience of zip files using the 'Compress' command of the Mac, then threw the original uncompressed files and emptied the Recycle Bin. Spotlight can't find the files in the compressed files that remain.

I'm wrong about this capability in the spotlight?

I don't see no settings of Spotlight preferences to choose the files compressed with an archive.

Return to what you have enabled in system preferences: Spotlight: categories of search results. All mine are checked. Although I no longer run Mavericks, I know let me see inside Pages and MS Word .docx documents words (both zipped, renamed containers), and I could also see unique words within other documents zipped. I had all my categories Spotlight search Resutls checked in Mavericks and this continues in El Capitan.

  • Disabled Options of Outlook 2007 indexing and advanced search options

Im running Windows 7 RC1 Ultimate x 64 and I recently started having a problem with Outlook 2007. Somehow all advanced search options (hit the double arrow to the right of the Inbox "search" field to specify, body, subject, etc.) are disabled - that is grayed out and I can't use them. If I go to the search options in Outlook all under the category indexing and search is also disabled. Finally, I noticed that if I go into Windows Indexing Options > change, under the heading change of the chosen places 'Microsoft Office Outlook' is grayed out as and when I go over it the ToolTip says "indexing of Outlook emails like summer disabled by the system administrator.

I confirmed this isn't something set via Group Policy, because I have several other similar PC which presents all works very well on. The only thing I can think is vaguely remembered changing some indexing options a bit back to allegedly to increase performance, but I don't remember what that or if I did before or after loading Win7.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  • Indexing options and search for Windows 7 are not locate content of the document since "update" Open Office 3.3 3.4 (he worked for 2 years before that)?

I have Win 7 with Service Pack 1. I have "updated my Open Office 3.3 to 3.4 and now Win 7 search and options DO NOT locate my document content indexing more? I contacted the support of Open Office: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=55483

They claim that: "indexing and search in Windows 7 are performed by Windows 7", so there is a problem with Win 7 search and indexing options.

I checked the indexing options in Windows 7 and the "Index Properties and content of the file" is selected for ALL the 'odt' as well as all the files 'o'.

I set up a test document: I put only one word "Wednesday" in the Open Office text document, saved and it called "text". I am looking for Wednesday and the search comes up with two other documents containing the word Wednesday in them, but not the Test document?

I just discovered something. When I did the 'Test' experience above, the file was saved in format 'odt' a:. I changed it to a ".doc" file and it now appears in the search results. As mentioned above, I've changed ALL the files starting with the letter 'o' in Indexing Options > Advanced Options > Types of files to the article: 'properties Index and contents of the file. The description of filter for files 'odt' comes back as: "IFilter shop OpenOffice IFilter" where as 'doc' filter is listed as a: «Filter Microsoft Office» Is it a "Boutique OpenOffice IFilter IFilter: issue" Blocking "the documents appear in the search results? If so, how should I do (I mean in addition to all the documents 'odt' replacing 'doc'?

Just to clarify: document names 'odt' come to a search, but not the content document.

  • Question of indexation UCM

    Hello

I'm relatively new to the AAU so please excuse my question if it's very basic.

I want to rebuild the full index on the content. The problem is that I have 10% (approximately) 20 GB free out available 200 GB) of free space on the disk where content is stored and I fear that runs the full it will cause disk space be fully occupied until it completes successfully. I know that the index is stored in the tables in the DB (DB has enough space), but I wonder if she will write all the files in the folder content and reduce the free space by a drawing of lots, or even completely occupy?

Also, can you please tell me how long would take indexing after as I start running it (approximately)? (I have about 40 GB of content)

Thanks in advance for your answer.

I'd be a little concerned about the amount of available disk space, depending on your current configuration.

    • If you are currently storing content in folders on the file system, it can not also be an issue from a perspective of indexing.
    • If you store content in the database however, content server will need to out the content on the file system in order to perform content indexing.  Having to write content on the disc is where you might have problems.

How long will it take?  There is no formula regarding how long x amount of content will not.  It only depends on the types of files themselves and the complexity of the content in the documents being indexed.  40 GB of JPEG files will end very quickly, because these files have no text to index.  40 GB of several sheets workbooks Excel with thousands of lines and columns of numeric data may take some time.  The system must extract the textual components of each file, write the text that it finds in a txt by each content element file, and then the content of this txt file is passed to the search index.

  • Can I later change or add information used by the Spotlight search?

In MS Office and Adobe, whenever I do a "Save as" or make a PDF of something via the print menu, a box appears and asks me for the title, author, keywords, etc..  The boxes are slightly different in Office and Adobe, but I guess it depends on the OS X Finder and is used by the Finder in the research.

I realize often later I want to add or change something in one of these boxes, but I don't know where to do it. Anyone know?  Thank you!

These metadata are stored by the programs themselves. Programs may write some of them to the metadata of the Finder which Spotlight - 2016 desktop search. I don't know if Office uses the metadata of the Finder to fill in the Properties window, or if it stores separately, it writes the data in the metadata of the Finder.

For Office documents, try the menu file, properties. Maybe it's different for other versions of Office. It's probably something similar to the Adobe docs.
