Tecra 8000, linux & ethernet & pnp

Hello

I am trying to install Linux on a Toshiba Tecra 8000. The problem is with a chipset Realtek ethernet PCMCIA card (module: 8139too), which is recognized, but the network is unusable. I always get an error of SIOCSFFLAGS and assigned interruption is 0, which means that it has failed. I have read many times that I have to disable plug-and-play, but there is no choice when I start with a floppy and run the TSETUP. EXE. Y at - it an alternative to this? Do you have any other clues?

Thanks, Thomas

Hello

Perhaps the following site will help you solve the problem.

Here are 2 official linux Toshiba sites and there are also some tips.

PS: You can also enter the BIOS if you press the ESC key immediately after lighting NB!

  • Tecra 8000: Desk Station V + chipset/HDD on Debian Linux?

    Hello!

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 and a desk Station V, currently under Debian Linux.
The HARD drive I have in my docking station is functional, but very slow (and I know that's not the drive itself, it works very well in another computer). I can't seem to activate the DMA ("' HDIO_SET_DMA failed: operation not permitted", is it still possible for hard disks anchored? "), but it works with one internal.

The HD internal (had) gets pretty decent speeds, but externally (hde) works at a snail's pace:

    Ulmo: / etc # hdparm-t/dev/hda
    / dev/hda:
Calendar of the disc in the buffer reads: 14 MB to 4.94 seconds = 2.83 MB / sec

    Ulmo: / etc # hdparm t/dev/hde
    / dev/hde:
Calendar reads disc in the buffer: 2 MB in 3.92 seconds = 522,50 kB / sec

Any suggestions? A fact, anyone know if the Desk Station V requires any configuration of chipset/IDE controller or support?

    Thanks for any help whatsoever.

    Hello

As much as I know the Station V Plus office devoted additional features to Enhanced Port Replicator II as follows:
a PCI/ISA bus and a bus PCI expansion slots, a Bay 5 inches.
a selectable Bay and a built-in SCSI-2 (Small Computer System Interface) controller.
I also found information on the net that the Desk Station V plus supports also only the UDMA2.

Well, I think that the internal interface for laptop is a bit faster than the DSV.

  • Tecra 8000 wireless

I got a Tecra 8000 with a 10/100 network port replicator which will be used as a second home office. On my main PC, I use a Netgear DG834G ADSL wireless router (802. 11 g) for wired broadband. What is the best (or too cheap) way to establish a wireless connection with the Tecra?
There seems to be a number of adapters (for example Netgear WG511) or USB (for example WG111T) adapters. Is the Tecra 8000 USB v1.1 or v2?
I might just put the router close to and click on the ethernet link but I'd rather have the laptop away from phone available catches.

    Hello

As far as I know that the Tecra 8000 has two ports USB 1.1 somewhere on the left side.

In my opinion the Netgear WG511 is much better solution.

  • Re: Tecra 8000 and module MPEG PA2834U

    Hello
I would like to see on my old Tecra 8000 PII 300 DVD movies. I bought a DVD player, but the movies are restless. I know a hardware MPEG decoder (PA2834U) which can be installed as an option module option.
This module can be installed on my Tecra? Is the model number: PAT800E-B943IT, originally, it came with a CD-ROM drive.
    Thank you in advance,

    Hello
    I have a Tecra 8000 PII 400.
The PCI card (which is actually a 'C-Cube Microsystems Cinemaster C 3.0 DVD Decoder (rev 02)') works fine with W2k.
On linux, I don't have the drivers to make it work (but I use xine player for watching movies, which is fine with the 400 MHz processor).

  • Corrupt BIOS on Tecra 8000

I have a Tecra 8000 flea market some time ago and Mepis Linux is installed. Everything worked fine until I gave it to my sister who spilled a cup of tea top.

Allowed us to dry out, but now, although it seems to be 'living' I get the message "ready for the update of the BIOS. Please place BIOS update diskette in the drive snd press a key when you are ready to move forward. "when I turn on the monitor.

I hope that this suggests I can restart the machine, if I install a new BIOS.
However, there is no floppy drive on this computer in which you insert a floppy disk!

I tried to download a BIOS upgrade and save it on a CD, but it is not recognized, probably because there is not BIOS.

Does anyone have suggestions as to how I could try to get the machine working again?

There is a floppy driver for Tecra 8000 with a special connector.
    You need a floppy drive!
Check on ebay for it or try to contact your local Toshiba service. They may have this player.

  • Tecra 8000 does not recognizing PCMCIA

Ive been using my XP loaded Tecra 8000 and connected to the internet via a wireless system using the USB port. It continues to lose signal, Ive just bought an Edimax Cardbus Fast Ethernet PC Card. It fits in the PCMCIA slot and gives me a RJ45 connection directly to the router. The problem is that I mounted the card in the Bay, but it was not recognized by XP. Should I change the bios for the PC to recognize this new material?
    Thank you very much
    Rob

    Hello

I guess you need the driver.
Have you installed all the drivers and got all the drivers with this card?

    So note to check this site for card manufacturers;

    You will find all drivers

  • Updating BIOS for Tecra 8000 without floppy

I searched this forum a solution update the BIOS without a floppy drive. The only one i found was this thread [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=66966&tstart=0], but there is no file .iso for the tecra 8000 series.
is there a solution to get the new bios installed on my tecra 8000 without any floppy drive?

I checked Toshiba BIOS download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp and TRAD BIOS version is proposed. This old Tecra is maybe 10 years and now, Toshiba has offered traditional update the BIOS only.

Win versions are later available with latest Tecra 9000/9100.
    I'm sorry.

Maybe stupid question now, but why do you need the BIOS update?

  • Tecra 8000 - failure to CD-ROM - new installation disc?

The CD-ROM drive in my Tecra 8000 has a defect. It attempts to load a CD-ROM, LED is flashing, it stops, and then the drive LED is lit.
So I guess the drive is down.

What kind of new CD-ROM is suitable for this laptop? Toshiba only original ones?

    Hello

Wow, the Tecra 8000 series is really old. Do you use yet this laptop?
It feels like the notebook would come from the stone age ;)

However, I think that the CD/DVD drive supports * interface IDE but not all readers would be compatible due to master/slave/cable select settings

It seems that the reader of DVD-ROM + Toshiba - SD-C2002 + would be compatible.
Not sure if you'll be able to get this disc because of the age of the unit, but probably the authorized Toshiba maintainer in your country could provide some readers compatible optical disc

  • Tecra 8000 and broadband connection

    Hi all

I recently asked to watch Tecra 8000 a friends (PII 233) and give it a bit of an update... Don't know why the most I've ever done, is to add a few small components in my PC at home!

My question is - is this possible for a connection broadband to be put in place - I looked all over the laptop, but don't find nothing which would suggest it is possible.
(Also what other improvements should be can) watching us.

Sorry for the noobness, but any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Ben

Wow this is really an oldie
Broadband do you mean the LAN port?

As far as I know that the Tecra 8000 was not equipped with LAN port.
It s really amazing but it is a fact

However, if you want to use LAN then I advise you to buy a PCMCIA (Cardbus 32-bit) LAN card that would be allows to connect the Tecra 8000 to LAN.

    See you soon

  • Tecra 8000 - how to connect the HARD drive to another laptop?

Hello, what kind of camera do I need to connect an old hard drive Tecra 8000 to a laptop from another production?

I want to just transfer some data, but the connector on the Tecra ac no longer works.

    Hello!

You can use a drive enclosure external DRIVE with USB port for this.
The external HARD disk enclosure should be for 2.5 s HDD with IDE interface. All that s.

Contact your local computer dealer. I'm sure they will have these cases.

The problem during the installation of this card is that the tecra does not see the network card.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem. Network adapter is Belkin F5d7010 54 Mb.

Try to change some settings in the BIOS.
In the configuration box, you can set the configuration of device option to all devices.
In addition, in the area PC card, you can try changing the compatible option CCIP or CardBus / 16-bit.

Play with these settings and check if a this will allow the card.

PS: Have you installed all the drivers that should be shipped with this card?

  • How to get to his work on W2k on Tecra 8000?

Is it possible to get the sound to work on a Tecra 8000 using windows 2000 pro? I just upgraded from win 98 and the audio driver install the Yamaha opl3-sax, but there is no sound. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling different drivers, but none seems not to work.

    Hello

I also recommend to check the Device Manager. If there is no yellow exclamation next to the sound card, so I would say that the audio driver has succeeded not installed and there must be something wrong with the audio settings.
Have you checked the sound and audio devices in the control panel? You should check all the audio controller if they are defined at the top level.
In addition, I would recommend controls the controller of volume on the side of the laptop. People sometimes forget to define. ;)

Have you tried to get into the BIOS?
    Check it out.
But usually after the update laptop BIOS should properly work and boots.
Have you followed the instructions on the BIOS update on the page of Toshiba?
Maybe you did something wrong and the motherboard is damaged.
