Tecra 8100 hangs up and CPU gets hot

I updated the bios and the performance max cooling and the dynamics processor and then put in a new HD. I then installed Win XP.
During the installation of the cooling fan was still running and completed the installation of the OS. Now, my laptop crashing all the time. The hanging of the changes of time (between 5 and 60 minutes).

I noticed that the fan rarely during 5 s maximum, and the computer gets very hot. The fan is supposed to turn all the time by running and changing speeds according to temp or is it normal that it be turned off. Are there steps that I missed during the installation or special drivers to install.

Hi frank.

Tecra 8100 is a little older. Am I wrong? I checked the page of the Toshiba driver and there is not a lot of XP drivers for this Tecra series. Most of the drivers are for OS W2k Win98and.

I recommend you to check the cooling fans. Maybe dust and debris inside prevents air flow correctly and so the laptop can not be cooled very well.

It s a fact that stuck fans are mainly responsible for overheating problems

  • Tecra 8100 - upgrade RAM and HARD drive

    Hello
I just got a Toshiba Tecra 8100. I do not have this small a HHD and I wanted to know what size I can get it up to. I know y thread already asked this same question, but the technology continues to go better then perhaps there are HHD I can get.

I am also wanting to upgrade the RAM. I've seen places that sell 144pin PC100 512 MB and I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade this 2 of them or not.

    Any input would be great!
    Thank you

    Hello!

The Tecra 8100 was delivered with HARD s up to 20 GB drive. I'm pretty sure that this laptop has a limitation of LBA 28 bits ([www.48bitlba.com]).
I put t know what HARD drive you have at the moment, but a hard HARD 40 GB or 60 GB would work in this good old classic.

In addition, the Tecra 8100 can be upgraded to 512 MB of RAM. So that you can t upgrade your laptop to more RAM.

  • Boot Tecra 8100 - would it be CPU malfunction?

A few months ago, I had a problem with my Tecra 8100 - does not start, everything seems OK but nothing on the screen (no post). I bought another motherboard and replace the old 1 MB, but the problem remains the same: everything seems normal, led lights turn just as it should, cooler works well but nothing on the screen.

I tried to connect the external display, but there is nothing on it, too. I have two memory modules and I tried all combinations with them (they are OK).

Is it possible that the problem is something with CPU - I don't know what else could be the problem?

Please, can someone give me help!

I assume you mean on this subject:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=22595

Well, as mentioned in the first thread, it's not easy to say what could be wrong.
Of course, it is possible that the CPU malfunctions and, therefore, you cannot use your laptop's!

But these are only suggestions, and no one will be able to provide an exact error diagnostic.

  • Tecra 8100 hangs after startup

    Hello
My Tecra 8100 has the same problem as described some time ago: the memory locations of MB were broken and doesn't have a connection properly. Even when I put paper or anything else between the cover and the memory module, it did not work and often my laptop has not yet started.

I bought the new MB and now the laptop still start (I can see BIOS etc.) BUT crashes after Windows XP logo with notice: windows cannot start because the pci.sys file is damaged... The names of 'corrupt' are different, not only from pci.sys.

When I portable computer boot from CD Win (to save the system) it blocks (crashes after 2-3 minutes). I tried to boot from Ultimate Boot Cd to detect the problem, but I can't do anything - always crashes after a short period of time - never start to run tests or Tools CD.

I think that there is a problem of memory - I have 2 modules Kingston KTT-SO100/256, I tried to place them in different locations, together and alone, but nothing changes.
These modules have worked with my old MB all the time.

    Any ideas?
    Radek

I read on other forums that this error can appear if the modules of memory are corrupt or not compatible or the memory on the motherboard slot is faulty.

Well, you have replaced the Board but do you use 100% identical to that of first?
Perhaps modules of memory are not compatible with the new Board of Directors.

I have installed the latest driver for my graphics card with the correct .inf and I expect a day of bios but Toshiba updated those isn't available.

In my opinion is the best solution to find a tool that control the speed of the fan, but I can't find one.

Why doesn't the fan at full power? If the graphics card is not so hot and cut the clock in two.

    (1) find the latest version of the bios - looking (Toshiba does not work)
    (2) install the latest driver for the graphics card - completed
    (3) clean - finished

    but no one really works!

    I thank very you much.

    Hello!

In your case I would clean the fan with compressed air jet. You can buy this by a local computer dealer and could blow the dust from the cooling fans. In this case, it s not necessary to disassemble anything.

Make sure that there is sufficient free space around the laptop for a good air circulation.

    Good bye

  • Tecra 8100 CPU gets too hot

Well, some may remember my previous post about the fan activation in my Tecra 8100.

This laptop came to me as a gift by a customer, because the screen didn't work. After some research, the problem was the internal cold cathode that was broken. Once replaced: Yes! a free book for me! It was a Pentium III 650 Mobile, with 64 MB of RAM and a 12 GB hard drive. I replaced all the components (which are now on sale, btw), and now has a Pentium III 850 Mobile, 512 MB of RAM and a 40 GB hard drive. Someone gave me a card PCMCIA of WiFi 11 Mbit/s, and now how it works with Windows XP Professional and updated Toshiba Utilities and drivers downloaded from Toshiba USA.

What's the buzz? SpeedFan, Motherboard Monitor and other monitoring utilities reported temperatures up 72a? Aºc in the processor. I opened the computer laptop and put thermal paste instead of the sticker that has the heat sink. Temperature guard high and utilities Toshiba even with parameters ' cooling high performance "does not have the fan to cool the cpu...

I hangs at all, but the business cards and pcmcia laptop have too hot even with the system works with any of the applications running. Lowering of the CPU clock or the ratio helps not at all.

I think putting a fan somewhere extra to force air circulation and that cool the cpu, unless...

... Toshiba could develop a utility that allows you to directly control the fan speed. I don't know if the thermal management is hardware or software-driven. If it is a software-driven, it should be easy to create a utility that directly access the fan and temperature records. It would be MUCH better than simply let the computer decide when and how long to activate the fan.

I'm sure that Toshiba engineers are busy with more important things which will not create the utility for us, so...

.. What to check or do to cool the CPU at more appropriate values?

    Thank you all!

    Hello

As in you previous announcement describes the Toshiba power saver controls the CPU and fan usage.
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=12585
This software works very well, and if you use the laptop as prescribed, you should not get all the problems and overheating problems.

The problem is that you have changed all the devices and parts on you laptop. The new parts are effective, but produce more heat.
On the laptop you can cool the CPU with a small fan, and if she goes out, it is necessary to decrease the performance of the processor.
It is a simple fact. All these functions can be set with energy saver.
In addition, it is very important that your cooling module is clear and free from dust and debris obstruct the work of fan.

  • Tecra 8100 - CPU max, DVD - ROM and BIOS update issues

    1. I have a 500 MHz processor on my 8100. I would like to upgrade to maximum capacity. I think it's 800 MHz since it is the highest, the series went to.
But if it's 800 MHz, any Mobile PIII on this frequency do? Or should I check for special settings of the processor?

    2. I don't have a floppy, or ways to get drive one. And I'm not going to ebay one just for an update of the BIOS. Any ideas? A bootable CD with the files will do?

    3. What is the location of the DVD-ROM and what alternative models can I use? The 8200 went up to 8 x DVD - RW. Could I go further?

Thank you. I hope that my post is OK like this instead of three different positions.

1 take a look at the other Tecra 8100 models to determine which processors are compatible.

    2. I don't think that would work a bootable CD, you must follow a special procedure to update the BIOS and requires a floppy drive. If there is a version of Windows, you must use that instead.

3 upgrade the DVD player can be difficult because you must use the correct master/slave settings, and it must have the same design of the façade of the original.

Personally, I'm selling the laptop and buy a second hand faster one. It can work out to be cheaper.

  • Question about CPU on Tecra 8100

    Hello.

I think I bought the toshiba tecra 8100 on summer (when I had the money), but I have question. What is this laptop processor?
I read it as 600 mhz, 700 mhz, 800 mhz and 850 mhz, but what really are? Or it's possible overclock via the bios etc?

    Hello

I Don t understand the question is what a laptop processor. It s the thing that makes your 'computer' computer or think. No matter what.
The speed is set in Mhz, so it depends on the model how Mhz, the processor of your machine has.

The exact clock speed is written on the label on the bottom of your machine. You can also try CPU - Z to determine the exact speed of your processor.

And NO, not possible to overclock the CPU of machines it s.

    Welcome them

I would like to know if this is a way to tell the Bios or the utility how to set temperatures and speed to keep my cool computer of the fan.

  • Tecra 8100: Question on the temperature of the processor and speed

advice please, I installed a p3 900 processor in my tecra 8100 and he sees it only as a 700. Since the Bios was outdated, I downloaded the latest bios which had no effect on its speed. However, as the update of the bios fan never happens that maybe a coincidence?

Can any body advise me the temp for the processor and the motherboard. My diagnostic software shows 55(c) of the motherboard and 43 for cpu, no fan activity at all. The original processor speed was 600 and I expect the 900 full because I think this is a 100 mhz bus.

Any help or comment gladly received thanks.

    Hello Peter

I'm not an expert, but maybe don windows to see the t the correct CPU speed. I recommend you to use a tool (clock THG) which indicates the speed of the processor.

  • Tecra 8100 - does not start and no activity on the screen

    Hello

My Tecra 8100 not start or take me to the BIOS Setup. It lights up, swirls the hard drive, but there is no activity on the display. The only way I can get something on the screen is turning with the F12 key when I get the 'ready for the update of the BIOS. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive "... message. So I tried the traditional method of updating the BIOS, found on the Toshiba site, but nothing helped. The machine seems to read the disk (that contains the downloaded BIOS) but does nothing. It is just there for centuries, with the disk light.

The last two days I have trawled thro much views and even took the whole machine goes to check the connections loose, but I found no answer yet.

Can someone out there please help?

    Thank you very much
