Tecra 8100 not start

Hello

correction of a problem, it seems that the second...

After that I fixed my problems of inverter, the laptop worked well for more than a week. Last night I tried to turn on the machine and... nothing happened. The display is dark, the spins of HD, the (empty) CDROM gives three little noises, then silence. No JOB.

If I power button once again for a little while, the portable thirty times (1 long and 29 short beeps) beeps. Then it turns off.

If I'm held during the March, the screen displays a page of funny characters such as hearts and clubs and Spades, smilie faces and so on. I'm afraid, theres something wrong with my bios. Is there the chance to reset the FlashPROM? Perhaps by disconnecting the CMOS battery? But how do you here? Questions about questions. Someone at - it a good idea? The shaded for a visit a page ASP would be a death sentence for the machine :-(.

Help, please!

Thanks in advance.

Kai

Hello Kai

As far as I know sound comes if there is serious hardware problem. On this path, it is not easy to give an accurate diagnosis. Remove the CMOS battery will not help at all. Personally, I think that there is serious hardware problem.

You see the Toshiba start screen or these symbols appear immediately after pressing the Start button / stop?

A few days ago and hinges on my Tecra 8100 receive broken - I had to take full-fledged laptop and replace the hinges. When I finished replacement and try to start, I have nothing on the screen. LED light diodes are to: power, battery, CD ROM (there are no leads to the HARD drive).
I must put emphasis that I had the problem with the locations of memory (from last year) and I solved this problem by sticking a piece of paper between the contacts (like everyone else).

    Hello

Who knows what you were doing. It seems at first glance that you plugged the screen isn't properly.
But it could also be something wrong with the memory banks.

It s not advisable to put anything between the memory and the housing contacts!
If you use the compatible memory modules, everything should work properly!

If you are not able to locate the failure I recommend to contact a technician who has more experience in the repair of laptop as a common user like you and me

  • Tecra 8100 - does not start and no activity on the screen

    Hello

My Tecra 8100 not start or take me to the BIOS Setup. It lights up, swirls the hard drive, but there is no activity on the display. The only way I can get something on the screen is turning with the F12 key when I get the 'ready for the update of the BIOS. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive "... message. So I tried the traditional method of updating the BIOS, found on the Toshiba site, but nothing helped. The machine seems to read the disk (that contains the downloaded BIOS) but does nothing. It is just there for centuries, with the disk light.

The last two days I have trawled thro much views and even took the whole machine goes to check the connections loose, but I found no answer yet.

Can someone out there please help?

    Thank you very much

    Hello Rory

I did the BIOS to be updated several times, but I've never seen this message at startup upward. You did it the traditional method as described in the document which you will find under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?z=234&service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=B IOS & FID = TRO0000000b07?

  • Tecra 8100: memory slot problems

    I have a model tecra 8100 not: PT810L 12 c 42.

I had problem with slot B mem, so collapsed to use it. Then I upgraded my RAM and inserted a 128 Mb TOSHIBA THLY6416G1FG-80 RAM PC100-222-620 slot A and used for a month. Then he suddenly went dead one day and did not boot at all.

I took it to the point of service, they found somehow it work by sticking a piece of paper btw Aries and the cover. I used another week with ram cover duck taped it. Same story, then dead in the middle of winXP, switched off and no boot again. It took to the same service point, they tried some other RAM chipsets that it refused to start.

The interesting thing is; When they inserted a faulty RAM in slot A and non-use slot B we get the message "memory incompatible chipset" on the screen. With the RAM mentioned above in the slot B (problem as always) and the A we get nothing, just a blank screen, DVD slot starts green lit, but nothing.

WHAT SHOULD I DO, PLS HELP

What is the RAM causing problems? What must a chipset that is exactly compatible with the model no pls?
Is it the two locations of memory A or B, their change could solve the problem?

This is the machine he itself, must it be thrown away?

    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

    Hello

I n know where you tried to upgrade the memory but as Lisa suggested this was not a serious technician. I changed and upgraded memory on multiple PCs, and you must use 100% compatible modules! You shouldn't t install the modules with a brute force or use strange things as a communication between the housing and the memory module.
Possible slots are damage due to use this procedure. But I hope you're a lucky man and everything will work correctly.

If you n t know which modules are right and taken in charge so you should contact the service partner authorized Toshiba for the right and the upgrade modules.

    Good luck

  • Tecra 8100 does not start.

Hello. I have this Tecra 8100 I think sell for parts, because I am crazy about her. But before that, I ask you here as a last.

It seems the section "power" of the laptop works very well: if I plug the power, the 'dc in' and 'battery' LED will light, and the "battery" led even go from orange to green when the battery is charged.

If I press the button "power on", "power" lights up. The hard disk starts to spin. The fan does nothing, and no "beep" is heard at all. In addition, the screen does not display anything. External VGA output or output TV shows nothing, too. I repeat, that no. a BEEP is heard, until...

I close the lid. A long beep is heard when I close the lid, but no trace of the image on the screen.

I have changed or upgraded nothing notebook: memory, CPU, etc.

I opened and took every piece of it: internal battery, motherboard, sound card, leds and buttons edge... and I tried to connect our case so t may be a short circuit with no luck at all.

    What is a BIOS problem?

The BIOS can be reflashed in this State, as the AWARD BIOS?

Are there keys or buttons I could press to enter a kind of mode to diagnose or service?

    Thank you.

    Hello

The Tecra 8100 doesn t supports no internal memory. Two memory slots are available, and it depends on the unit memory has been installed.
Always is it that you can improve it to max 512 MB (2 x 256 MB)

Now to you deliver; It sounds like a hardware problem, but no one could be able to provide a diagnosis exactly what we can do is speculate on the fault.
I think that it s a motherboard problem

  • Tecra 8100: bios update of cd. exe does not command line

I want to update the bios of my Tecra 8100.
I downloaded the bios, but the pc has no floppy, I cooked up a cd bootable like this

When I start the pc, F2, press c to boot from the CD-ROM, I get in a dos environment. I went to the drive Z, "dir" and see the bios.exe that I've burned to cd. To run it I type bios.exe and continue to be 'command unrecognized file name' when I type dir *.exe, he does not see the file either.

    Maybe I forget something here?

    Hello

Your described method does not apply to Toshiba laptops.
Each computer laptop manufacturers supports various BIOS update procedures

    Toshiba on this page we:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/support/JSP/downloadDetail.jsp?soID=356848&PF=true
Here you can download the latest version of the BIOS for Tecra 8100

The 4810.25 package must be unpacked everything first.
Then you should check the files available.
There is a readme.txt file that describes how to update BIOS using the ISO to CD.

    I hope I could help

  • Tecra 8100 - slot memory B do not work

    Hello

I recently bought a Tecra 8100 and I decided to upgrade the ram from 128 to 512.
I did not buy good modules, but in any case, when I opened the laptop, I discovered that I had 2 modules of 128 MB...
    I did some tests:
-1 module in the slot, he was allowed (128 detected)
-1 module on the slot B, nothing happened, the laptop won't start...
    -switch modules, always 128 detected
That's why I think that my slot B is dead...
Someone has any idea what I can do?
Maybe a bios update will do... I have yet to try this...
Furthermore, what is the combination of keys to access the bios?

    Hello

There is not much to do if the slot B is defective. If you don? t want to repair you can use the module in slot A memory of 256 MB. The number of compatible 256 MB module is PA3051U-1NME.

BIOS settings, which you can open by using the ESC key.

  • CD-ROM drive does not eject on Tecra 8100

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8100 and my CD player will not eject. It only happens when it starts.
Any ideas, everyone, how can I solve this problem?

Even when I get it open habit run all disks?

    Hello

You are not able to open the drive to be on the CD. Is this good?
Generally, each player has a small hole to open the player manually. You can use a thin wire to open the player.
But if the reader doesn t work correctly or t doesn't accept and recognize any CD so I guess the drive is dead and only replace the drive can solve it.

  • Keyboard does not not on Tecra 8100

    Hello

My daughter has a Tecra 8100. Not sure if it is virused, but the keyboard does not work. Powers up fine, although slow, is usual (Spybot, CA anti-virus) virus scans - can't find anything, but still no keyboard. Ran a keyboard diagnostic and it says it works very well. Any ideas? (PS ideas where to get a recovery for the 8100 disk, can't find mine anywhere?) Thank you.

PPS: Since then found that when I start in safe mode, I can use the keyboard? But why only in safe mode?

    Hello

I think there must be a corrupt keyboard driver file or the keyboard has been disabled in the HWsetup Toshiab.
Check the HWsetup and activate the keyboard in the opposite case, a new facility would solve that problem.

But before you try to install the OS you can try to use the System Restore tool for Win XP.

PS: the Toshiba Recovery CD can be ordered from the Toshiba service provider in your country.

  • 20 GB of HDD is not recognized by Tecra 8100

    Hello
I just got this laptop Tecra 8100 and I am trying to upgrade its 12 GB with a 20 GB hard drive, a. I formatted the drive of 20 GB of my office using a portable USB Caddy before putting it in the laptop.
When I boot up to install XP, and before she starts copying the installation files, it will give an error message telling me that no player has been found and restart.

Any idea how do I get the new drive recognized?

    Thank you

    Hello

I discovered that Tecra 8100 supports only the 6 GB (9.5 mm thick), 12 GB (9.5 mm thick) and 18 GB hard drives (12.7 mm thick).
It seems that the 20 GB HARD drive is too big and so the BIOS does not recognize the HARD drive and you can not install the operating system.

Unfortunately, there is nothing to see.

PS: You can try to update the BISO but I put t I think this will help.

    The motherboard is dead?
If so can I get a replacement?
Offered a reference number 8100 SERIES MOTHERBOARD Toshiba P000304110,
will this work in my laptop with my processor?

    Hello

I assume slit B is defective, but it can be repaired and you can't swap the motherboard together. Please keep in mind that this option is not offered by each service partner only some of them have this agreement with Toshiba and offer this repair at low prices.

You can also use 256 MB in a single location and module memory is 256 MB (PA3051U-1NME).

  • Tecra M9 - does not start after memory upgrade from 1 GB to 3 GB

I am trying to upgrade my M9 memory with little success. I bought a 2 GB module which is the same existing brand and spec to the 1 GB module, but the PC will not start no matter what options I try. So far I have tried:

    * Addition of 2 GB for the accommodation of extension from below (3 GB total)
    * Withdrawal of module 1 GB under the keyboard and its replacement by the 2 GB module

None of these options work. The PC gives no beeps or indications that there is a problem, the led lights on the way to the top, the drive led flashes and then it goes into a wait state. Nothing happens.

For the record, I bought initially upgraded memory that wasn't an exact match and I am now on my 3rd module suspecting a memory compatibility to be the issue. This current 2 GB module seems to fully match the 1 GB as well as being twice the size. It is:

    HYNIX 2GB 2Rx8 PC2 - 5300 s-555-12

I am running Windows XP SP3

The TECRA is a PTM91A Intel Duo T700 CPU 1.80 GHz

    Any help would be appreciated

    Hello

To me it sounds like the new memory module is not functional or not compatible with the laptop. Otherwise the cell would start without any problem.

If you bought the memory module in a store, you have to take it back and ask for a replacement.

I n t have experience with Hynix memory modules. For the upgrade of my laptop, I used Kingston memory and it worked without any problem

  • Tecra 8100 white plus-ecran only starts

I have a Tecra 8100 (disc hard 12 GB 700 MHz, 256 MB of memory) running Windows XP and Win 98 dual-boot. It was OK for ages but suddenly developed the following fault. Any help to heal would be great. When you turn it on, normally, the screen remains blank, the hard drive is ringing and the lights are on, on the front panel. No keyboard entries do start/start etc.

When you press the off button, sometimes it'll just off as usual, at other times it will be bleep 30 times, then stop. Keep the power off button will require cutting as it should. Sometimes, lights up the screen and you can start up to Windows XP/WIN 98 etc but the PC freezes on the way to start, or when he gets there, you can't do more with it when this happens.

The CMOS battery is down to 2.77 volts instead of the 3 volts, it should be, I took out memory, tried both sticks of memory in slots and nothing makes no difference. I think that it is an intermittent fault, but it's a common fault, like others on another site to help describe EXACTLY the same symptoms.
    EVIDENCE OF THIS PLEASE!
