Tecra 8100 turn on problem

I have 2 8100 both now have the same problem. Will be the only power up after about 10 or more power on button pushes.
Both use XP sp2 and both screens very well. They will work very well, so if you come to light morning sector led and lcd led work as battery leads but does not illuminate. After pressing the power on button sometimes up to 30 times and the fires of the machine upward. Any ideas?

Hello

Sorry, but I must ask you something. How do you push the power button. You push shortly and fast or you push and hold down for a few seconds?

    I have a model tecra 8100 not: PT810L 12 c 42.

I had problem with slot B mem, so collapsed to use it. Then I upgraded my RAM and inserted a 128 Mb TOSHIBA THLY6416G1FG-80 RAM PC100-222-620 slot A and used for a month. Then he suddenly went dead one day and did not boot at all.

I took it to the point of service, they found somehow it work by sticking a piece of paper btw Aries and the cover. I used another week with ram cover duck taped it. Same story, then dead in the middle of winXP, switched off and no boot again. It took to the same service point, they tried some other RAM chipsets that it refused to start.

The interesting thing is; When they inserted a faulty RAM in slot A and non-use slot B we get the message "memory incompatible chipset" on the screen. With the RAM mentioned above in the slot B (problem as always) and the A we get nothing, just a blank screen, DVD slot starts green lit, but nothing.

    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

    Hello

I n know where you tried to upgrade the memory but as Lisa suggested this was not a serious technician. I changed and upgraded memory on multiple PCs, and you must use 100% compatible modules! You shouldn't t install the modules with a brute force or use strange things as a communication between the housing and the memory module.
Possible slots are damage due to use this procedure. But I hope you're a lucky man and everything will work correctly.

If you n t know which modules are right and taken in charge so you should contact the service partner authorized Toshiba for the right and the upgrade modules.

  • Tecra 8100 turn yet less startup

    Any help appreciated.

I have a laptop Tecra 8100 who recently refused start or start. If I connect the power indicator DC IN watch green fixed. I press the power button and the laptop momentarily tries to start and you hear sometimes briefly CD player whirlpool in life. But then the laptop stops (usually after less than a second the power upward) and DC IN flashes orange. If I disconnect and reconnect the power supply AC DC IN indicator returns to solid green.

I tried to change the battery pack and the two SIMM memory with known working replacements. I also left the battery power on charges for a while - all to nothing doesn't.

Appreciate any ideas you might have. I suspect that's not useful to refer to the manufacturer for repair as the warranty has expired.

    Thank you very much

  • Tecra 8100 - lack of tv out cable

    Hello.

I recently bought a laptop Tecra 8100. There is unfortunately no tv output cable included.
According to the manual (ie. here: http://www.microdom.by/olddata/pdfspec/tecra_8100.pdf) the tv out port provides a signal s-video (NTSC/PAL) 3, 5 mm mini-jack port.
The missing cable must be a RCA conversion cable.
Is someone can you please tell me if there are special requirements that this cable must meet to the? It is not difficult to get a mini-plug cable 2xRCA audio conversion, but of course, it does not transmit the video signal.

    Clues?

I'm working on Win XP SP2, the installed graphics card is S3 Savage/MX.

    Thanks in advance for advice.

    Hi mate,

I know cable companies; It s a rare accessory of the Tecra 8100. The problem is, that the Mini-Jack 3.5 "has it s own format, so it will fit only in 1 x 3.5" to 1 x RCA.

These cables are either on Ebay, or contact you an ASP (certified partner) which could probably send you such cable for little money from low...

Here´s a link (if you need) to find the nearest ASP in your country:

  • Display brightness turned down to Tecra 8100

    Hello:

I bought a Toshiba Tecra 8100 used - after two months without problem the monitor suddenly turned down the
brightness - in the beginning the turn-down was little, now, it's quite often.

I tried already several things: first of all I thought it was because of the battery... but after the purchase of a new problem was still there. Sometimes after freezing
several times by closing or simply by pressing the gel
button, it works very well. So far, I can't find a source of
the problem (also changed the parameters of power... is not serious)... so I'm completely at the end of my nerves - in addition to this small, but very serious problem, I'm still very pleased with this end computer.

Hoping to find help in the forum.

    Best regards, Bjoern

I too am in the same situation, but I just wanted to clarify the problem. The machine starts very well, but sometimes the backlight fails completely. It's pretty sporadic, although invariably reboot fixes the problem (temporarily). Is it a software or a hardware problem?

    Thank you, David

  • Tecra 8100 TV problems? What Socket? cable?

OK so I have a Tecra 8100 laptop

    > running everything well... except that I can not get the TV out socket work...
    > Ive got windows XP on it...

first thing I want to know about the housing - it is a Jack of 3.5 mm (NOT of RCA or S-vide0)

    > so I finally managed to get a Jack 3.5 mm cable video, audio...
    > which connected to the TV... nothing

    I have the cable entry?

in display properties, I installed the drivers of duo, and there are a few additional options...

    > what confused me, it's that there are 2 monitors there... but is it because of the VGA?
    > I tried pressing FN + F5... but not had any luck

Is there something simple that im missing like a cable?
    > or a piece of software...

    Hello

As much as I know on the right side you will find a video taken of output. To use this video on the service, you will need to use a RCA video connector.
Please also check the settings in the BIOS. Here, you set the type of TV signal and select television as an output device.

To connect the TV, please follow these steps:
    1 turn off the computer
    2. use the composite video cable to connect the TV to the video output port
    3 turn on the TV
    4. turn on the laptop

    I hope this helps.

  • Tecra 8100: solid white vertical & screen turns off

    Hello

My Tecra 8100 has (or had) which seems to be a 'known fault': screen off, can be returned by pressing fn + f5 or the small metal button.
He also acquired a solid vertical white line about 1 mm wide and 30mm from the left edge. I managed to stop the problem of (backlight?) deletion of frame (thanks to those who responded to my previous, now locked, question!) by taking the cover off the screen and by disconnecting and reconnecting the ups. So now the screen always remains on. Unfortunately the white line is still there, and then that previously, the screen was normal except for the line, all right (i.e. all except 1 "of the screen) is now just multicolored stripes.

What do you think? I have been informed that the inverter is no power the backlight, which suggests that the problem of lines is something else. But they occurred at the same time. In addition, as far as I remember, when I was playing the connecting the inverter lines came and went (and then came and remained). Would it still a bad inverter connection? Or a broken inverter? Or more likely to be something else?

    see you soon,
    George

  • Tecra 8100 problem after BIOS update

    Greetings
    I have a tecra 8100, 700 mhz with 256RAM,.
and it works a treat, until I decided to update the BIOS, the date of the previous version was 1999!

As I run an OS linux on this unit, I downloaded a version of the Bios boot image and loaded on startup, it reported the success of the update.

My problem now is that the system starts fine but extremely short slow,.
It takes 15 minutes to start and is virtually unusable.

I ran several tests of comparative analysis and tests of memory of Hiram boot CD and the only problem in the report was my 700 CPU running at 114.82. And of couse running, the CPU runs at 100%.

I deleted the cmos data and be restarted using the default BIOS settings.
Long searched the net and cannot find an answer.

    Help, please.

    Hello

I visited the European driver of Toshiba page and found the latest version of BIOS that is 2, 50 - WIN.
    Do you use it?

The BIOS can be updated only run under windows! That's why I m surprised that you were able to update the BIOS, the Linux operating system running on this computer.

Try to download the most recent BIOS version and update as described on the help page of the BIOS update.

  • Tecra 8100 - exchange of motherboard

    Hi all.

Sorry, my English is not very good, but I need help. My Tecra 8100 does not only turn on the leds of power, battery and drive hard, but does not (Nothing on the screen).
I need to replace my motherboard and it is B36084962019-a (Tecra 8100 model PT810E-01152-IT) but I think only B36086672015-A motherboard.

Can I use these model instead of my?
    Thanks in advance to all.

  • Tecra 8100: Advice replace please - audio card?

My 8100 Tecra faithful and beloved which is ideal for my purposes locked up the other day, in the middle of a session.

Restart windows resulted in blocking machine once Windows is running.
I started in safe mode - no problem.
I have disabled all devices useless and then through a process of elimination of selectively allowing devices and reboot.
I found that the problem was the Yamaha audio device - that turn on the machine and it would lock up, disable that and he would normally go.
It worked fine now for a day with the disabled Yamaha audio device.
I tried to uninstall/reinstall the device - no change.
I even did a fresh install of XP - no change.

I ran XP pro for over a year without problem (so far) and I consider not audio as criticism - just a nice to have.

    My questions are:

Is there anything else I need to do in the way of diagnosis?

    Tips for common problems?

Can anyone with experience of fixing these machines or similar notice if replacement of all of the audio card is likely to make a repair?

I seem to remember the last time that I opened it about two years ago to change the processor that the audio Assembly was on a separate panel but is that all?

Note that this is a _ancient_ machine and _not_ going to be taken to a repair shop where the Bill would be more that it is worth! I am competent to replace the sound card, more than that and I will probably continue to run without audio - I don't think that it worth replacing the motherboard just for audio...

Thank you very much in advance for any constructive suggestion.

Well, as you know these replacements are very delicate
However, I don t think you will be able to replace this sound card but it s my personal opinion.

From my experience, I know that the card (audio driver) his Yamaha is not fully compatible with Win XP SP1 and SP2. Update the audio driver is necessary.

    Google for it

I searched a bit for some instructions how to remove these boards and found this page.

There you should find a link to the page how to disassemble the Tecra 8100.

  • Tecra 8100: display suddenly will Dim

    Hello

during normal operation of the Tecra 8100, suddenly the screen darkens. The display still works, only the backlight is dark. By pressing the small pin, which is turn off the backlight when you close the screen, light reappeares. Sometimes for hours, sometimes for a few minutes, but especially the second. Hello

  • How do I disassemble the Tecra 8100

I had power supply problems with my laptop recently a model of laptop Toshiba Tecra 8100 No.. PT810C.
The cap on the back for power was coming loose. It was firmly attached, but power on the laptop out, relying on the cord at the back in general would result in turn. It's probably just a connection not tight with only one hardware item, and I am currently disassemble the laptop, to see if the problem will be easy to fix.

Now, I already said, removed all the various material on the bottom which is detachable, more unscrewed the screws holding things together, but I hit a snag. I can't find where things are held together and do not have a good scheme to look to know. Does anyone know where I could patterns for these types of devices, or even a guide for anyone new to dismantling computers laptops?

And not to be rude, but please don't post any warnings on the dangers of the work on laptops or suggestions I have a professional working on it.

The value of the laptop is signifigantly less cost to ensure that the work, which means that is not an option, and even if I made a mistake and the ruin of the laptop, it is nothing more than a paperweight as it is currently.

    Hello

The problem is that a manual disassembly are not published by Toshiba :(
I think that these documents are not for public use and, therefore, it is really hard to find all the details.

  • Change of assignment of IRQS for Tecra 8100

I think that there is a conflict of IRQ on my Tecra 8100. I have a PCMCIA wireless card to use IRQ11. This IRQ is also shared by the Yamaha audio device. And ALSO by the USB root hub :-(

I can't work on how do I turn off the USB in the BIOS - I put it to "DISABLED", but the USB root hub is always detected in Windows. I will try to update the BIOS to see if I can solve this problem.

I can't work also how turned off the sound board - is it possible?

Initially, I had the PCMCIA card in the PCI 1 port (which had an IRQ 11 cardbus controller). I tried to change to other port PCI (with IRQ 7) but the card still used IRQ 11 - now, I have FIVE devices sharing IRQ 11. USB, PCMCIA, 2 PCI cardbus and audio controllers.

Any ideas on how I can get rid of the USB or change the audio device IRQ?

    See you soon,.
    Dan.

    Hi Dan

I guess I missed the reason why you want to change the IRQ... but anyway, all new Toshiba of devices normally share an IRQ - the IRQ 11, which is the standard IRQ for the PCI bus.
Means that the devices directly connected to the PCI bus, normally all use IRQ 11. And that of the way it is supposed to be and works perfectly.
I know, from ISA only PC, that it is forbidden and required to make the problems - but the PCI and at least the world Toshiba it's ok.

    BR

    Tom
So, my suggestion, reset all the IRQ to the values that the OS or the driver gives it by default.
If you have any real problems with this configuration the state here on this forum and I'll try to help you.
