Tecra 8100: Yamaha ds - gx hardware broken?

Hello
I have a Tecra 8100 with internal yamaha ds - xg sound card. Last month, the computer hangs when I want to do something with the sound! My first thought was the driver, but even under linux, it no longer works!
When I disable the driver there is no problem but not its too!
So I am afrain material is broken, but maybe someone knows if there is still something to see? It's also happened that it worked again, but after a restart not more? Volatile!

Hello

Have you tried to update this driver?
If this is not the case, try to download the latest version of the audio driver on the Toshiba site.

  • Tecra 8100 - no sound except in mic!

    I have a Tecra 8100 Windows XP.

I can't get sound on the speakers or the headphones emitted by the computer, such as beeps, CD, etc. But if I have to reactivate the microphone, I can hear through the headset, ensure that the microphone picks up (there are a few comments without microphones, proving that the speakers work physically). All volume controls are the maximum and reactivated. All devices are enabled and correctly selected in sound control panels.

Any help would be welcome! Is the sound card, or am I missing a driver? Could not find anything else on the web with similar symptoms. Thanks in advance.

    Hello

A good questions and I never heard of this topic which s...

I think the fist, you should start to update the audio driver of your laptop. Therefore, you can see the Toshiba site for an update:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

Before installing the latest version, you must remove the old version first and reboot the laptop.

Maybe a reinstall of Windows with the Toshiba recovery disc could also be useful and in the worst case, it s only a hardware malfunction and it must swap the motherboard. :(

    Welcome them

  • Tecra 8100 CPU gets too hot

Well, some may remember my previous post about the fan activation in my Tecra 8100.

This laptop came to me as a gift by a customer, because the screen didn't work. After some research, the problem was the internal cold cathode that was broken. Once replaced: Yes! a free book for me! It was a Pentium III 650 Mobile, with 64 MB of RAM and a 12 GB hard drive. I replaced all the components (which are now on sale, btw), and now has a Pentium III 850 Mobile, 512 MB of RAM and a 40 GB hard drive. Someone gave me a card PCMCIA of WiFi 11 Mbit/s, and now how it works with Windows XP Professional and updated Toshiba Utilities and drivers downloaded from Toshiba USA.

What's the buzz? SpeedFan, Motherboard Monitor and other monitoring utilities reported temperatures up 72a? Aºc in the processor. I opened the computer laptop and put thermal paste instead of the sticker that has the heat sink. Temperature guard high and utilities Toshiba even with parameters ' cooling high performance "does not have the fan to cool the cpu...

I hangs at all, but the business cards and pcmcia laptop have too hot even with the system works with any of the applications running. Lowering of the CPU clock or the ratio helps not at all.

I think putting a fan somewhere extra to force air circulation and that cool the cpu, unless...

... Toshiba could develop a utility that allows you to directly control the fan speed. I don't know if the thermal management is hardware or software-driven. If it is a software-driven, it should be easy to create a utility that directly access the fan and temperature records. It would be MUCH better than simply let the computer decide when and how long to activate the fan.

I'm sure that Toshiba engineers are busy with more important things which will not create the utility for us, so...

.. What to check or do to cool the CPU at more appropriate values?

    Thank you all!

    Hello

As in you previous announcement describes the Toshiba power saver controls the CPU and fan usage.
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=12585
This software works very well, and if you use the laptop as prescribed, you should not get all the problems and overheating problems.

The problem is that you have changed all the devices and parts on you laptop. The new parts are effective, but produce more heat.
On the laptop you can cool the CPU with a small fan, and if she goes out, it is necessary to decrease the performance of the processor.
It is a simple fact. All these functions can be set with energy saver.
In addition, it is very important that your cooling module is clear and free from dust and debris obstruct the work of fan.

  • Tecra 8100: solid white vertical & screen turns off

    Hello

My Tecra 8100 has (or had) which seems to be a 'known fault': screen off, can be returned by pressing fn + f5 or the small metal button.
He also acquired a solid vertical white line about 1 mm wide and 30mm from the left edge. I managed to stop the problem of (backlight?) deletion of frame (thanks to those who responded to my previous, now locked, question!) by taking the cover off the screen and by disconnecting and reconnecting the ups. So now the screen always remains on. Unfortunately the white line is still there, and then that previously, the screen was normal except for the line, all right (i.e. all except 1 "of the screen) is now just multicolored stripes.

What do you think? I have been informed that the inverter is no power the backlight, which suggests that the problem of lines is something else. But they occurred at the same time. In addition, as far as I remember, when I was playing the connecting the inverter lines came and went (and then came and remained). Would it still a bad inverter connection? Or a broken inverter? Or more likely to be something else?

    see you soon,
    George

  • Tecra 8100 seeing all installed memory

I'm working on a Tecra 8100 laptop for a friend. Machine does not seem to recognize the memory installed in location B at all. Is there something in the BIOS to force her to perform a new analysis or I'm just looking at a broken slot? Everything seems OK visually and clips seem sound.

    I agree with Feliks;
Module of RAM or housing could be faulty.
You should try the RAM module in A slot in order to check the functionality.
If the same RAM would work in the slot, but not in the B slot then I guess the slot B is damage.

  • Tecra 8100, upgrading the BIOS, whitch that hard drive is taken in charge (40 GB)?

    Hallo,

I have an old Tecra 8100 one I want to update BIOS. Who knows who is supported (20 GB, 40 GB) hard drive and where can I find the specifications?

    Thanks for your information.

    Georg

    Hello

As I m wrong not the Tecra 8100 does support an IDE HDD controller.
In this case, it should be possible to use the 2.5 IDE HDD.

I can't say much about the formats supported, but the fact is that the size of HDD supported depends on the HARD disk controller. The old controllers IDE up to what the ATA - 5 (also called Ultra ATA/66 or Ultra DMA/66) supported LBA 28 bits, which allows you to use the 120 GB HARD drive max.

Since ATA - 6 (also called Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100), you can use IDE hard drives of more than 128GB.

So if you want to, you can check your IDE HDD controller using a hardware diagnostic tool (IE Everest home edition). Then you might find out what IDE controller is and what drives are supported.

    See you soon

  • Install W2K on Tecra 8100

    Hi all

I am trying to install W2K on a Tecra 8100, but I think I'm doing something wrong, because it keeps failing.

If I just insert the CD it starts to start a load several files at a time when the Setup starts Windows 2000 (present at the bottom of the screen) and the installation crashes with a blue screen and the c0000221 error material unknown error \systemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll
I read that, during installation, you will need to press F5 (in the screen where you can load a SCSI or raid driver) and then choose Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC, but after doing this I get the same error.
I have no additional material attached, it's original configuration.

Any thoughts on how to solve this problem and get W2K on my laptop?

    Hello

I think that this question has nothing to do with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) or similar.

I read about the error systemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll message, and there is no particular reason for this error.
Sometimes some service packs missing cause this problem and sometimes hardware malfunction (RAM or HARD drive) could be responsible for a BSOD.

You are able to install Win XP?

  • Tecra 8100: Advice replace please - audio card?

My 8100 Tecra faithful and beloved which is ideal for my purposes locked up the other day, in the middle of a session.

Restart windows resulted in blocking machine once Windows is running.
I started in safe mode - no problem.
I have disabled all devices useless and then through a process of elimination of selectively allowing devices and reboot.
I found that the problem was the Yamaha audio device - that turn on the machine and it would lock up, disable that and he would normally go.
It worked fine now for a day with the disabled Yamaha audio device.
I tried to uninstall/reinstall the device - no change.
I even did a fresh install of XP - no change.

I ran XP pro for over a year without problem (so far) and I consider not audio as criticism - just a nice to have.

    My questions are:

Is there anything else I need to do in the way of diagnosis?

    Tips for common problems?

Can anyone with experience of fixing these machines or similar notice if replacement of all of the audio card is likely to make a repair?

I seem to remember the last time that I opened it about two years ago to change the processor that the audio Assembly was on a separate panel but is that all?

Note that this is a _ancient_ machine and _not_ going to be taken to a repair shop where the Bill would be more that it is worth! I am competent to replace the sound card, more than that and I will probably continue to run without audio - I don't think that it worth replacing the motherboard just for audio...

Thank you very much in advance for any constructive suggestion.

Well, as you know these replacements are very delicate
However, I don t think you will be able to replace this sound card but it s my personal opinion.

From my experience, I know that the card (audio driver) his Yamaha is not fully compatible with Win XP SP1 and SP2. Update the audio driver is necessary.

    Google for it

I searched a bit for some instructions how to remove these boards and found this page.

There you should find a link to the page how to disassemble the Tecra 8100.

  • Tecra 8100 hangs after startup

    Hello
My Tecra 8100 has the same problem as described some time ago: the memory locations of MB were broken and doesn't have a connection properly. Even when I put paper or anything else between the cover and the memory module, it did not work and often my laptop has not yet started.

I bought the new MB and now the laptop still start (I can see BIOS etc.) BUT crashes after Windows XP logo with notice: windows cannot start because the pci.sys file is damaged... The names of 'corrupt' are different, not only from pci.sys.

When I portable computer boot from CD Win (to save the system) it blocks (crashes after 2-3 minutes). I tried to boot from Ultimate Boot Cd to detect the problem, but I can't do anything - always crashes after a short period of time - never start to run tests or Tools CD.

I think that there is a problem of memory - I have 2 modules Kingston KTT-SO100/256, I tried to place them in different locations, together and alone, but nothing changes.
These modules have worked with my old MB all the time.

    Any ideas?
    Radek

I read on other forums that this error can appear if the modules of memory are corrupt or not compatible or the memory on the motherboard slot is faulty.

Well, you have replaced the Board but do you use 100% identical to that of first?
Perhaps modules of memory are not compatible with the new Board of Directors.

I removed the frame of the screen and it made the difference for a about a week but just happen again:(mais je croise les doigts pas très souvent.)

What part I need to replace etc.?

I disable all power management things, and sometimes even of it is would no doubt something with the screen.

I need ideas how to resolve this because it's a good laptop for a student lol prity.
Thanks for reading and any rear power

    Hello

Sorry, but it's really not easy to say what needs to be replaced.
But it s certainly a hardware problem I put t know what should I PIN you meant exactly, but maybe a loose connection is causing this problem I mean a FL-inverter connection

Here's a useful page [how remove and replace card ups FL on Toshiba Tecra 8100 | http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Tecra-8100/remove-replace-fl-inverter-board.htm]

Maybe it could be useful for you

In any case, these hardware issues are always delicate, and in most cases, each unique piece, and the connection must be checked. It's not easy, and in most cases and the computer laptop technician should take a look on this laptop

  • How do I disassemble the Tecra 8100

I had power supply problems with my laptop recently a model of laptop Toshiba Tecra 8100 No.. PT810C.
The cap on the back for power was coming loose. It was firmly attached, but power on the laptop out, relying on the cord at the back in general would result in turn. It's probably just a connection not tight with only one hardware item, and I am currently disassemble the laptop, to see if the problem will be easy to fix.

Now, I already said, removed all the various material on the bottom which is detachable, more unscrewed the screws holding things together, but I hit a snag. I can't find where things are held together and do not have a good scheme to look to know. Does anyone know where I could patterns for these types of devices, or even a guide for anyone new to dismantling computers laptops?

And not to be rude, but please don't post any warnings on the dangers of the work on laptops or suggestions I have a professional working on it.

The value of the laptop is signifigantly less cost to ensure that the work, which means that is not an option, and even if I made a mistake and the ruin of the laptop, it is nothing more than a paperweight as it is currently.

    Hello

The problem is that a manual disassembly are not published by Toshiba :(
I think that these documents are not for public use and, therefore, it is really hard to find all the details.

  • Tecra 8100 does not start.

Hello. I have this Tecra 8100 I think sell for parts, because I am crazy about her. But before that, I ask you here as a last.

It seems the section "power" of the laptop works very well: if I plug the power, the 'dc in' and 'battery' LED will light, and the "battery" led even go from orange to green when the battery is charged.

If I press the button "power on", "power" lights up. The hard disk starts to spin. The fan does nothing, and no "beep" is heard at all. In addition, the screen does not display anything. External VGA output or output TV shows nothing, too. I repeat, that no. a BEEP is heard, until...

I close the lid. A long beep is heard when I close the lid, but no trace of the image on the screen.

I have changed or upgraded nothing notebook: memory, CPU, etc.

I opened and took every piece of it: internal battery, motherboard, sound card, leds and buttons edge... and I tried to connect our case so t may be a short circuit with no luck at all.

    What is a BIOS problem?

The BIOS can be reflashed in this State, as the AWARD BIOS?

Are there keys or buttons I could press to enter a kind of mode to diagnose or service?

    Thank you.

    Hello

The Tecra 8100 doesn t supports no internal memory. Two memory slots are available, and it depends on the unit memory has been installed.
Always is it that you can improve it to max 512 MB (2 x 256 MB)

Now to you deliver; It sounds like a hardware problem, but no one could be able to provide a diagnosis exactly what we can do is speculate on the fault.
I think that it s a motherboard problem

  • Tecra 8100: stutters during playback of music

    Hello

After installing Win2k on my Tecra 8100 each works fine but playback of music.
When play is a stutter, a clickening every 2 seconds.
It is a general problem, not a problem of the music program or file that I play (mp3).
It already starts with the beginning of Win2k jingle.

    Any ideas?

As far as I know that the device is supported for W2K Professional and if you have used all the drivers designed Toshiba it should not be a problem (if the hardware is not faulty). Please check with a helmet. It will be interesting to see if the problem persists.

Have you had it with previous operating system? Do you have it tested with a helmet too? Can you please post more than a few sentences? You already did some troubleshooting and what exactly?

  • Change of assignment of IRQS for Tecra 8100

I think that there is a conflict of IRQ on my Tecra 8100. I have a PCMCIA wireless card to use IRQ11. This IRQ is also shared by the Yamaha audio device. And ALSO by the USB root hub :-(

I can't work on how do I turn off the USB in the BIOS - I put it to "DISABLED", but the USB root hub is always detected in Windows. I will try to update the BIOS to see if I can solve this problem.

I can't work also how turned off the sound board - is it possible?

Initially, I had the PCMCIA card in the PCI 1 port (which had an IRQ 11 cardbus controller). I tried to change to other port PCI (with IRQ 7) but the card still used IRQ 11 - now, I have FIVE devices sharing IRQ 11. USB, PCMCIA, 2 PCI cardbus and audio controllers.

Any ideas on how I can get rid of the USB or change the audio device IRQ?

    See you soon,.
    Dan.

    Hi Dan

I guess I missed the reason why you want to change the IRQ... but anyway, all new Toshiba of devices normally share an IRQ - the IRQ 11, which is the standard IRQ for the PCI bus.
Means that the devices directly connected to the PCI bus, normally all use IRQ 11. And that of the way it is supposed to be and works perfectly.
I know, from ISA only PC, that it is forbidden and required to make the problems - but the PCI and at least the world Toshiba it's ok.

    BR

    Tom
So, my suggestion, reset all the IRQ to the values that the OS or the driver gives it by default.
If you have any real problems with this configuration the state here on this forum and I'll try to help you.

    Hello:

I bought a Toshiba Tecra 8100 used - after two months without problem the monitor suddenly turned down the
brightness - in the beginning the turn-down was little, now, it's quite often.

I tried already several things: first of all I thought it was because of the battery... but after the purchase of a new problem was still there. Sometimes after freezing
several times by closing or simply by pressing the gel
button, it works very well. So far, I can't find a source of
the problem (also changed the parameters of power... is not serious)... so I'm completely at the end of my nerves - in addition to this small, but very serious problem, I'm still very pleased with this end computer.

Hoping to find help in the forum.

    Best regards, Bjoern

I too am in the same situation, but I just wanted to clarify the problem. The machine starts very well, but sometimes the backlight fails completely. It's pretty sporadic, although invariably reboot fixes the problem (temporarily). Is it a software or a hardware problem?

    Thank you, David
