Tecra 9100: Media Test failure - check cable then turns off

Hello

I have a Tecra 9100 and I got it at low cost and hoping to make it work for my son to do his homework on but its got a problem.

First he came without a hard drive (on order) then when I turn it on I get + media test check the cable failure then it stops.
I ve disabled boot from LAN and set the default Bios and tried to boot from the CD drive that starts to install ok (I know he won t get far because I ve without HARD drive)

But he died just completely sometimes in the beginning, sometimes at half way.

One can shed some light on the subject.

Thanks rob

Maybe its overheating? Search for dust in the radiator. You can blow the dust using a can of compressed air.

Also test the memory. You can get memtest www.memtest.org and put it on a floppy disk or a CD.

    Hello

Yes, it's a typical message when the laptop cannot boot from the HARD drive and switches to the local network.
I think that your HARD drive is not present may be dead
You can check the BIOS if the HARD disk is which are listed there.

If the HARD drive is not recognized in the BIOS, then I would recommend this replacement.

Usually this error message appears because the laptop tries to start from LAN because she doesn t recognize other bootable devices like ODD or HARD disk.

Usually if the HARD drive would be recognized then this message PXE - E61 appears.

What happens if you insert a bootable CD and press the C key immediately after starting the laptop?
The C button should allow booting from ODD.

  • Satellite C660D - media failure PXE - E61: media test failure, check cable of

    Hello

hope I can help with this problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660D, which I bought in 2011 and he has recently started to act, whenever I try to pass on it tells me

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller series V2.38 (24/12/10)
PXE - E61: media test failure, check cable.
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE ROM
    Operating system not found

This problem started when I tried to install the new operating system (Win 7 32 bit) on my hard drive of the windows partition, this instillation was a success, and I even managed to create a user profile after installation.

However, as soon as I logged on to the computer says me he wants to get back out to check my windows and it did it automatically and since then he never restart and tells me that this media test failure error.

I checked my hard drive if that work by connecting it as external on another computer and its still fine with everything that always there, I deleted and reintroduced it a couple of times, but always the media test failure still occur, I even tried to change the sequence of start several times, including the default settings , but the problem still persists.

I have two laptops of the same type and both of them give me the same problems, I am running out of ideas on how to fix this problem any help will be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello
This message means that the system was not found on the HARD drive and the next boot device was LAN. But unit was not able to boot from LAN and so this PXE error appeared.

You said that the HARD drive is OK. Well, what is the status of the HARD drive in the BIOS?
HDD is recognized correctly in the BIOS on the first page of the BIOS?

Where it is, you should try to reinstall the system once more.
In the case of the disk HARD isn't visible in the BIOS, you must replace it.

  • Portege R100, PXE - boot problem - E61:Media Test failure, check cable

My portege r100 4004GAH original hard drive has had some problems recently, so I decided to replace it with a bigger 4006GAH. Specifications, it seemed that it would be appropriate.

So I tried to install standard windows top. Unfortunately as I soon discovered that didn't work and lead to BSOD. I looked online and remembered that I had in fact to use the recovery of three discs. Fortunately for me I still had the freshly sealed and I've also owned a combined remarkable Targus CD drive supported. If in the three discs are gone. All seemed well and after that the last drive ended, I was asked to remove the disc. The laptop has rebooted and then gave me the

PXE - E61:Media Test failure, check cable
PXE - M0F: Exit Intel PXE ROM
    Insert system disk
    Press a key to continue...

I thought it might be in the order of start, but verified that and it seemed right. HD was first. I also changed the order and the same error came.
I thought while another component of my laptop may be broken. So I put my old hard drive in. It started fine.
The next thought that the new hard drive was defective.

Fortunately, this is not the case. Because when I used the recovery disks not only heard disk hard turns to the top, but the hard drives were detected and recovery installation displays the correct memory size.

I'm completely stumped on hat w what is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

It is not easy to say what the problem is but you said the Portege started fine with the old HDD. So I think that there is something wrong with the new.

In your case I test the HARD drive with a special tool like Drive Fitness Test. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

In addition I am interested in what you have the same problem with a Microsoft installation disc if you have one.

I would like to be loaded from the CD boot for installation of the system. Start device first in the BIOS CD (or F12-> CD) - the same error.

    What should I do?

This laptop has been delivered without an operating system then you need to install support only OS.
If you get this message again and again your drive for the installation of the OS makes problems.

Have you tested with different bootable devices?

Messages PXE always makes me check the boot order in the Bios to you make sure it is correct.  For Windows to load needs to access the hard drive on your machine, this is not the case.  The hard drive must be set before any PXE (Network Boot).  The message of the startup disk not valid because you inserted diskette that does not have a boot disk, then remove the disk from the drive.  Focus on the Boot order in the Bios.

To enter the Bios (see your computer screen to the power, your manual or the manufacturer's web site) you probably rely on something like the delete key, or one of the F keys at startup time, but the actual key varies from a model.  Many computers call it "Enter Setup", the installation program is just another term for Bios.

Set your Bios on the default security settings can also solve that for you.

It sounds as if your boot process is not configured properly, as the PxE boot is usually the last thing tried if no other bootable device is configured, or set to start before the network option.  Recheck the boot parameters.

  • Cisco UCS C210 M2: PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

    Hello

I'm working on Cisco UCS C210 M2 servers. I got 10 146 GB SAS HD with LSI MegaRAID Raid Controller. I did run the Raid Controller and choose RAID6. After that I installed ESXi and it said to reboot the server. Now, when I restart the server I get the following error message:

PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

PXE - M0F: Exit Boradcom PXE ROM

Restart, and then select proper boot service

or Insert Boot Media in some boot device and press a key

Any suggestions how I can solve this problem.

    Thank you.

You will need to go into the Bios of the controller LSI MegaRaid (Ctrl + H) and select the option of virtual drives on the left. When the virtual command window opens, you must select the drive (Raid Volume) on which you want your drive master boot and underneath there will be an option to set as your boot device. Apply and save.

It seems that the system does not recognize your ssd more. Usually, the hard/SSD is the first bootdevice and whether it is empty or does not exist, it will jump to usb or networkboot. PXE = networkboot

Try to start with a live-stick and the check if you can access your SSD. Also see, if the bios/efi does not recognize the drive.

Worse: all your data is lost... (I hope you have a backup)
the positive: this question must be covered by the guarantee! If you are still in the first year and registered for the guarantee of reliability, you get your laptop repaired and all your money. xD

    Hello

I think that this is related to failure of HARD drive or lack of OS on the HARD drive.
Is this message PXE ONLY appears if the portable computer is trying to boot from LAN.

Means either the LAN was chosen in the BIOS as first boot device or operating system is not found on the HARD drive and so the BIOS automatically goes to the local network.

So I recommend this audit in the worst case you will need to check if the new HARD drive would solve this

  • Portege Z830, PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

    Hello

I have a problem on my Toshiba Portege Z830. After that I turn to the top of the computer, windows attempts even to start, instead, I saw the following message:

PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of
PXE - M0F: Exit Intel Boot Agent.
    Insert system disk in drive.
    Press any key when ready...

From what I understand, it seems that laptop is trying to boot from LAN, instead of SSD.

I did that in the BIOS boot order is reasonable. It is:
    1 HDD / SSD
    2. USB memory
    3. USB WEIRD
    4. DISKETTE DRIVE
    5 LAN
I also tried to load the defaults in the BIOS, just in case.

I also tried to re - install Windows 7 and Ubuntu installation, USB. In both cases, Installer was not able to discover any drive where system could have been installed.

That seemed to me like a problem of material with SSD. And it's actually the second time I'll have it with this laptop. I got it about 4 months ago and at that time I sent my laptop certified Toshiba service in Zuerich. They sent it back, saying that the material was OK and he must have had a software problem.

To my surprise, after that they sent back for some portable reason indeed started working, I have not yet lost all data (didn't need to reinstall the system, everything worked).
I was happy, but since now the same thing happen again, I don't know what I have to do.

Whether any other SSD that hardware problem? If Yes, what else can I try?

If the only option is broken hardware, how can I make sure that this time he gets permanently fixed by Toshiba service?

    Thank you
    Alan

    > From what I understand, it seems that laptop is trying to boot from LAN, instead of SSD.

It's OK; the message appears if no other boot device could be found.

    _Question: _
SSD or HDD disk appears on the first page of the BIOS (size of the SSD drive and the name should be visible)?
In case the SSD drive isn't in the list, there must be a problem with this device and I guess you have to replace it.

    > If the only option is broken hardware, how can I make sure that this time he gets permanently fixed by Toshiba service

You simply ask the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country.
I guess guys will try to recover the laptop and where this is not possible, they would replace the faulty device.

    Hi Nash

The PXE error occurs because the laptop tries to start first from the local network.
You must enter the BIOS and change the order on HARD disk or a CD. I recommend that you set the LAN option at the end of the boot order.

The recovery CD you can buy form the Toshiba service partner in your country.
The number on the sticker is only an OEM key. You can not use it with a Windows operating system several.
