Tecra 9100: reboot without end - media test failed

Hello

a friend of mine apperantely has some problems with its Tecra 9100 and he asked me if I could help him. Maybe some of you guys know what this could be... I'll post his original comments to e-mail on the situation:

"When I start the computer it keeps restart indefinitely, it is not answered none of F8 and do not accept any CD I get into the BIOS and ask from CD, but without success.

"I went into the BIOS and something and now he told me
LAN adapter failed media test. Please check cable and reboot the system (cable only I plugged the Power one) I can't get out of this when it reboot. »

I'll try to get my hands on him by phone today so I can get a better description of the problem. But maybe some of you know what could be the problem.

Thank you
Daniel

Hi Daniel,.

The message that appears during the startup process, which would indicate that is the boot sequence is incorrect and the laptop tries to start from a lan device, or there is a problem with access to a HARD drive or bootable CD.

I first try to access the BIOS boot screen (press ESC as soon as appears the screen flash Toshiba) and check that the initial MESSAGE is successful, then access the BIOS (F2) Setup and carefully check all the settings to ensure they are compatible with the laptop.

Finally, I would like to check the boot sequence so that CD-ROM followed by HARD drive as the first two points. (You can of course put HDD first, I prefer just CD first me).

    Hello Mohan,

    ·         You did changes to the computer before the show?

These errors often occur if there are incorrect BIOS (Basic Input\Output System) settings.

Method 1: Check if the computer startup options are changed in the BIOS. You can set the hard drive as the first boot device. In addition, make sure that this option "Wake on LAN" or one similar to it is off.

Method 2: Load default BIOS (Basic Input\Output System) settings, and then restart the computer.

Important : Change/update BIOS can be a complicated process, and if an error occurs, your computer could be rendered inoperative. Be sure to observe the instructions of the manufacturer.

  • Operating system not found on Equium - PXE - E61:Media test failed

    Hi all

My daughter has a computer satellite laptop running XP.
However, the system does not start and the following messages:

PXE - test failed - check the cable for E61:Media
PXE - M0F: output of the PXE Rom
    Operating system not found

We do not have a disk operating system.

What is the problem and how can I do for her?

    Hello

For me, it seems that the HARD drive is dead and the laptop can not find the installed operating system.
In this case, he tried to boot from different sources and finally LAN.
But it does not and therefore, you get the PXE - E61:Media test failure error message.

In my opinion, the HARD disk needs to be replaced and the operating system must be installed again.

    See you soon

After factory reset, if the TV is not connected to Wifi then stable enough and no problem! can even watch mkv from USB. Any solution?

Service center reinstall the software, problem solved now. Better to use USB to perform the update!

    HI Tom,

The error message that you receive indicate that your laptop is trying to start the connection to the LAN rather than from his own hard drive or a CD-ROM. I suggest that you verify that the boot sequence is specified correctly in your BIOS, or alternatively, you can press F12 during your market and you should get the boot device menu sequence appears so that you can specify that you want to boot from your hard drive.

    Kind regards

    Hello

PXE - E61:Media test failed is displayed because the laptop is trying to boot from LAN.
This can happen because the LAN option has been fixed in the first start position in the BIOS or because the phone didn t find any other sources bootable.

In many cases, this can happen because the HARD drive was not recognized.
Check if the HARD drive is visible in the BIOS must include details of the HARD drive in the BIOS
If this isn't the case, then the HARD drive is unavailable due to hardware problem.

It would also be possible that your CD/DVD drive cannot read the disc, and so the laptop can not boot from the disc.

All these questions can be releated to hardware failure... ODD or HDD, or both...

  • Tecra 9100: Media Test failure - check cable then turns off

    Hello

I have a Tecra 9100 and I got it at low cost and hoping to make it work for my son to do his homework on but its got a problem.

First he came without a hard drive (on order) then when I turn it on I get + media test check the cable failure then it stops.
I ve disabled boot from LAN and set the default Bios and tried to boot from the CD drive that starts to install ok (I know he won t get far because I ve without HARD drive)

But he died just completely sometimes in the beginning, sometimes at half way.

One can shed some light on the subject.

    Thanks rob

Maybe its overheating? Search for dust in the radiator. You can blow the dust using a can of compressed air.

Also test the memory. You can get memtest www.memtest.org and put it on a floppy disk or a CD.

  • Tecra 9100: Delayed write failed - hard drives on their way?

    Hello again,

I am a member of the Club feared messages error "delayed write failed" and some of that my hard drives are to blame.

These errors pop - up when a large enough facility is in place, or whenever my system is written something great for my hard drives (which I might have to wait a while to complete). It happened before installing the battery Bluetooth Toshiba. My laptop has finally frozen during installation and all I could do was to move the cursor. 30 minutes in the installation, I get several of these stupid error messages. They say ' delayed write failed - file C:/xxxxx/xxx/xxxx was not justified perhaps due to a connection or hardware problem "(or something like that). When the message window there is almost no way to escape in out makes a power off. But when I turn on the back, I get the blue screen of death that checks my record of inconsistencies. It is very annoying and disturbing because it means probably that my hard drives should be cracking up.

After doing the search several times on the issue, I know it's my hard drives fault for sure. I have two hard drives; They both give me error messages. They must be on their way, after all I bought this 2nd hand computer laptop and they made noises strange "at delay." Recently, I noticed once they made a "beep" "beep". Never heard before so it cannot be good.

In any case, I think that I need new hard drives. Can someone recommend me one or two who are used to give me these error messages (and are relatively cheap at least 30 GB)? Thank you

P.S when I opened the PC health since the Toshiba Management Console it says '' drive S.M.A.R.T (disk 0) may fail soon. '' Ouch.

    Hello

Each HARD disk with adequate material specifications may work on the Tecra 9100.
The HARD drive should support an interface IDE (ATA-5) and should not be larger than 60 GB.
I'm sure that BIOS Tecra 9100 will support 30 GB, 40 GB and perhaps also the 60 GB.
But the larger sizes of HARD drive might not be recognized by the BIOS correctly.

By the way; You can make a call to the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country and could order the compatible HARD drive.
In this case, you will be sure that the drive is supported and runs without any problem to 100%.

    Hello

    I agree with danydemaeseneire
You should first check if the right Boot order (ODD, HDD, etc.) has been in the BIOS. If the LAN is set to the first position, then you must change this!
To access the BIOS please use the ESC and then F1 keys.

Another possibility is that the OS does not exist on the HARD disk. In this case, you need to install the operating system.
Press the C or F12 key immediately after turn computer laptop to boot from the CD.

    Good luck

  • Replace the failed HARD drive in Inspiron 1545 without recovery media

My COMPUTER illiterate brother gave me his Dell Inspiron 1545 [Amin Note: Service Tag published by policy TOU] set after he dropped it on the floor.  I used a cart of Sata USB drive to copy successfully most of his records off the coast to another PC (some were corrupt), but I do not know how to go on installing the OS, etc. on the new HARD drive, I bought (a 120 GB Samsung SSD Series 840).

Dell Diagnostics (F12 at startup) gives me several errors of HARD drive for the Western Digital HDD (WD-WX70A8983788) 320, for example:

When you try to boot normally, Windows Vista complains that there are mistakes, tries to correct them and sometimes I can get it to boot on Windows Home screen how it freezes.

When I have already fixed a laptop, I had access to a recovery media / DVD and a key product of Windows OS, but this Dell does seem to be none of that - just a recovery partition on a hard drive now doubtful.

What are my options to install the new HARD drive and hand over its files on since I have no recovery media or a product key Windows OS?

    I must:

    (a) reduce the size of the partition on the dodgy HARD drive less than 120 GB and then clone the dodgy HDD on the new SSD, so try and difficulty of installing Windows using the Dell recovery tools? (He had used<120GB of="" the="" old="">

    (b) clone just the recovery Partitions, and then copy the relevant files on?

    (c) try to make a Vista DVD and somehow get the product key of Windows disable the suspicious HDD (it doesn't seem to be a Windows product key sticker on the laptop, the Toshiba & IBM unlike I had sitting next to me).

    (d) something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.  First thing I will once I have it get up and running is to create the recovery media that he did not!

Option one could be quite bad if the performance of the system was initially quite bad. It depends on what has been installed on the machine. I recommend a clean installation.

Follow my Guide from reinstalling Windows / a Clean Install of Windows Vista:

    http://philipyip.WordPress.com/Dell-community-forums/

This will guide you through the clean install using downloadable Digital River Media (Microsoft online partner). It will tell you where to download the installation files and how to do an aswell USB bootable as the rest of the installation.

For product activation, there are instructions on the use of the activation program to backup and restore (step 2 and 11 b). I saved product activation OEM Dell Dell Windows Vista to 7 reinstallation DVD. If you run a utility finder key on the old installation, you will get a corresponding product key. It is not would be in line with the key on your COA. The guide explains system locked preinstallation and activation more in detail. An alternative to the product activation is also possible; You can use the product key on the laptops COST 25-digit which must be placed under the battery in the Inspiron 1545 to protect it from deletion. This will require automated activation of phone to a Center (11th step) Microsoft product activation so I prefer activation backup and restore program.

I am from the United Kingdom and do not like the fact that the form of relocation brackets is for US customers only. The situation has worsened for Windows 8, Microsoft has not provided downloadable media. Please add your voice to this idea from IdeaStorm Windows 8 media IdeaStorm resettlement so that users in the United Kingdom or elsewhere outside the United States can get media to reinstall via an online application form or download link. Unfortunately IdeaStorm requires connection separate from the rest of the Dell Community.

  • Tecra 9100: Unable to connect external monitor to the APR III Plus via DVI

    Hello
I have a laptop Tecra 9100 that I try to use with an Advanced Port Replicator III (APR3 +) to connect to an LCD flat screen widescreen Dell via the DVI connector, but so far without success.

All other connections on the APR3 + operate without problem, the monitor stir however not until Windows finishes loading, how it shows a totally white screen with black bars very close down vertically.
I upgraded to the latest version of the BIOS and tested all the cables, but in vain. I also carefully searched from Toshiba Web site, but the only document which deals with taken ports supported on the APR3 + I can find does not list my laptop model at all.

Please can you tell me if this mode of operation is supported and if it is how to enable it?
Alternatively, if it is not supported, could I use a VGA - DVI cable to connect the APR3 + LCD flat screen?

    Concerning
    Ross.

    Hello

I see that you have updated the BIOS. I think that it was not a bad idea, but you also need to check if you have installed the latest version of TOSHIBA Mobile Extension 3.
I don't know if that helps, but please check.

How to check the current version of TOSHIBA Mobile Extension 3
-Select Control Panel in the start menu.
S ' please click on ' Add / Remove Programs "from the control panel.
-TOSHIBA Mobile Extension 3 for Windows XP V3.xx.xx.XP"appears in the list of software to ' Add or Remove Programs".
-If the current version of TOSHIBA Mobile Extension 3 installed on your computer is V3.19.00.XP or more, please upgrade to the new version V3.21.00.XP.

How to upgrade the TOSHIBA Mobile Extension 3 to version V3.21.00.XP
-Uninstall the current version of TOSHIBA Mobile extension 3
    -Restart the computer.
-Download the new version, unzip it by running, and run "Setup.exe" from the compressed file.
