Tecra A6 - memory remapping with new BIOS?

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the bios on a Tecra A6 to enable the memory remapping so that all 4 GB can be used?

Shaun

Hi spmontgomery,

Theoretically the BIOS update is no problem, but you should know this will improve the maximum RAM capacity because it s a limitation of the motherboard and chipset. Updating the BIOS will not help you.

As far as I know, Tecra A6 supports up to 2 GB of RAM and that s the most that you can use.

I think that you should use the most recent version and it s a v4.83.1.0. It seems that the v4.36.10.0 was published also, but in this case, it s always recommended to take a newer version.

With regard to the system of freezing for a second or two:
I think that this might be related to some background processes. Perhaps a process that runs in the context of the Vista operating system causes this tiny interruptions.

Of my knowledge tool Tempro runs in the background and scans the system and HARD drive.
You can check the processes in MSCONFIG and if necessary may disable some of the trials.

  • X 301 secure Erase with new BIOS

    Hello

I went to an X 18 - M Intel SSD on my X 301 some time ago. I noticed that the new BIOS has been released with the Secure Erase feature some time ago. As I was going to rebuild my laptop today, I thought I would give it a go. It turns out that it was a mistake. The utility has failed on the Intel SSD, requiring a reboot after operating for six hours. After the reboot, it turns out that the utility took a hard disk the disk password (it wasn't one of front). Since I have no way of knowing what password it has set, I'm actually locked out of my drive and it's a brick for all purposes useful.

Is anyone (Lenovo in particular) know what password is set during execution of the Secure Erase of the latest version of the BIOS feature? My only alternative is to know if there is a default master password from Intel. Since in principle, this should be empty, I think I'm scuppered unless someone in Lenovo can tell me what password they defined using the utility.

    Thanks in advance.

It does not occur when you update the BIOS of 2.50 to 2.70 only when you have 2.70 and do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit

    Greetings

    Hello

    > But when I load the old BIOS 2.50
How you installed the old BIOS? Older BIOS versions are not available on the Web from Toshiba site and the downgrade is possible to an authorized service because special BIOS update program is necessary.

Satellite X 200-191 belongs to the series of PSPB9E if you downloaded the update for this model or other model (PSPBUE) that would be a mistake?

I read similar messages here in the forum and the reason was a replaced mainboard and ASP has forgotten to write the DMI information. You change the motherboard?

I just got the updated BIOS version 3.30 on my Tecra A11/M11 invitation.
I'm still under Win7 now, but plan to add a dual boot with Ubuntu when the next LTS strikes in April.

Is anyone having problems with the new BIOS?
Should I upgrade or leave intact 3.20?

I don't find any evidence of trouble with 3,20.

Why upgrade BIOS if everything is OK?

In addition to as much as I know that Toshiba can't stand not the Linux operating system, and I doubt that the new BIOS would improve any Linux performance so, if you are satisfied with the version 3.20, stay with that

    Hello!
How can I enable the memory remapping in BIOS (5.90) on my laptop?

    Thank you.

    Hello

It seems a problem with the Microsoft 32-bit Windows operating system.

    Please check this:
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB7601WE0007R01.htm

    You can find this info:

    _Issue: _
I put in the memory 2x2gb in my book * and the BIOS * and the operating system is worth about 3 GB

    _Solution: _
This is a limitation of the 32-bit system.
System resources need of addressing which overlaps physical memory below 4 GB.
These requirements can reduce available addressable memory space to and reported by the operating system

  • There is no option in the bios to enable the memory remapping? !

There is no option in the bios to enable the remapping... my last windows 7 x 64 memory showed all my 4 GB of ram... but however I have clear now to install win7 x 64 or x 64 pro win8 it said usable 3.79 and info pc does not recognize my nVidia GPU (only graphics card intel HD recocnizes) while the nVidia control panel can recognize GPU and intel HD graphics together... my system is asus u36jc notebook... help is there Please...: |

    Hello

    Please contact Miceosoft answers.

Memory remapping option is not available in the BIOS and we can't really. If you do not want to remap the memory, turn the computer off, remove the cover from the chassis and modules of memory Exchange (only if there is more than one).

I assume you are using an Intel core i processor series, 2nd or 3rd generation. Usually when your pc doen't need many complex graphic treatment, the processor works as the graphics processor. In this case, when you check with Windows, it will show only currently work graphics processor - Intel HD graphics card. In addition, you can switch between graphics, to know what is the default value. In this way, if you select graph nVidia, Windows will display it info.

I suggest to keep the setting of graphics as such for extended battery backup.

  • Tecra A4-109: is - this 1 GB PC2-4300 DDR2 memory compatible with this model?

    I've had this laptop model Tecra A4 109 for a year and a half. I need to upgrade its 512 MB of memory by default. http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/JSP/productPage.do?service=EU&action=SHOW_ATTRIBUTES&t ab = 1 & PRODUCT_ID = 102108 & Type = 2319 & family = 2328 & series = 100900 & model = 102108 & x = 98 & y = 14 #1
from this site, I checked the memory compatible types.

As this link says "1024 MB (1 GB) memory PC2700 DDR SODIMM (333 MHz), 1 GB PC2 - 4300 DDR2 Memory, 1 GB memory DDR2 PC2-4300" are the compatible memory. (But in the manual of the laptop that is present in the C:\TOOLSCD\manuals, the compatible option only is 1024 MB (1 GB) PC2700 DDR SODIMM (333 MHz) memory).

I checked a few memories of laptop DDR2 by traders the but they actually wouldn't fit in the memory locations with ease. If I force it to adapt, it can insert into the slot. But there is a chance to have a broken and useless memory. Memory DDR work with 5 volt DDR2 memory work with 2.5 to 4 Volts AFAIK. Of DDR and DDR2 memory slots are also a bit different from each other. Now I'm confused.

Official web pages of Toshiba says and what I found in the laptop manual are contradictory to each other. Who is telling the truth?

I'd appreciate the help. Thank you...

    Hello kamel

I can understand that you are confused, but it is not so complicated. I checked a few pages and here is the result:

Tecra A4 comes in two different models.
    1 Tecra A4 - PTA40E-xxx (your model). Compatible memory module is 1024Mo PC2700 (PA3313U-2M1G)
    2 Tecra A4 - (PTA42E-xxx). Compatible memory module is DDR2 400/533 1 GB (PA3411U-1M1G)

As you can see that the two hardware platforms are completely different. Copy the PA3313U-2M1G module. It is compatible with your Tecra.

  • Tecra S5-10 X - CD/DVD drive causes BSOD with new CD not burned.

    Hello!
I have a laptop TECRA S5-10 X with windows XP (downgraded from Vista)

My computer has trouble dealing with discs not burnt from the interface of microsoft. Make a right click on the drive takes more than 20 seconds to answer. After 2 - 3 times (sometimes right the first time) with or without ejecting the disc, I get a blue window of death "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".

I tried the Toshiba DVD Diagnostics passes.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver.
I tried to do repair for windows
I installed service pack 3 for Windows XP
    I've updated the bios
I've also updated the (Microsoft says it might be useful) NvIdia video card driver

    Nothing helps.

I'll be very happy to get any other suggestions that will help me avoid a reinstallation of windows.

    Thax in advance

    H.

I think you should try to remove the top and lowerfilters as Akuma said. This often solves problems with the CD/DVD drive.

In the worst case, you must reinstall Windows.
You also have this problem only with XP or Vista?

I doubt that it is a hardware problem so reinstall Windows could solve it.

  • Is Tecra S5 - useful to update the BIOS?

Recently, I bought a laptop Tecra S5 and yesterday I noticed an update of the BIOS on the Toshiba site.

I googled a lot searched this forum and found a lot of discussion about people having problems after updating (flashing) the BIOS. So I want to ask you if the update worth it, and if someone with an S5 did. Could someone also tell me if there is a way to ensure that you can roll back previous BIOS version after that an update does not?

The laptop is precious to me and since living in this time of financial crisis means that I won't be able to buy a new one if I screw this up I want to be sure. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I installed Vista 64 due to having 4 GB of RAM.

    Hello

First a BIOS update is not required if your laptops gently. Never touch a running system ;)
A BIOS update is only recommended if you have any problem with him, for the memory vivid example not properly recognized or so.

I only updated the BIOS of my laptop if I have problems with it, and that means that I have updated the BIOS on my Toshiba notebooks 3 times yet. I m not a Tecra S5 owner but I never had a problem with the BIOS updates. Some people who said that the update of the BIOS didn't forgot to read some instructions how to do this:
Before you start an update of the BIOS, you must close all running programs and close all background processes that you don't need. Also your antivirus and firewall should be disabled and must be signed in as an administrator. Don t forget to connect the AC/DC adapter, before start you.
If you follow these tips, normally the BIOS update must be done successfully.

A BIOS to a previous version downgrade is possible that anuthroized service provider. This means that you can downgrade it yourself.
But the newer versions are pre-tested Toshiba and should not cause more problems as before. Newer versions of BIOS problems.

    I hope I could help a bit! :)

    Welcome them

  • Tecra M3 PTM30E - cannot update the BIOS

    Hello

I can't install my new Bios on the Tecra M3 PTM30E-09X01LEN system.
    The message says: not supported.

    Why?

    I put t he understand.

    Hello

First of all, I want to ask you why you want to update the BIOS?
You have some problems with the laptop that could be solved by the BIOS updated?

Also what BIOS you use and where did you find and download?

The Tecra M3 PTM30E seems to be a European model and the BIOS must be placed on the European driver Toshiba page.

    I checked the page and there are two versions of the BIOS;
BIOS 1.20 - WIN-FBCF is only for the models with filter virtual control of Angle (FBCF)
The BIOS 1.50 - WIN is for models WITHOUT filter the virtual control of Angle (FBCF)

Seems that you used the wrong BIOS!

I use 2-2 g and sticks 2-1 g. The specification on the a6000n show 32-bit 4g and 8g 64-bit. I did a scan of HP software upgrade and it came only with the new drivers for my DVD replaced. You are welcome.  Thank you for the additional information.

There is nothing you can change in the BIOS to allow you to use more than 4 GB of memory.  However, as you suggest, you can switch to Win 7 64 bit.  This will allow you to add up to 8 GB.  This is memory that is recommended by Crucial memory:
