  I'm afraid you're out of luck.  If the torn label had been noticed before the HD crashed, the existing product key could have been found using a program like Belarc Advisor or the Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder.  However, with the death of HD, it is too late for that now.

  Once again thank you. I have solved the problem another way however. It turns out that because I went from 750 GB to 1 TB hard drive, the Intel Rapid Storage, should be updated.   Usually, if you use the F12 key to start up you can use up and down arrows to choose the right device and if you press ENTER the boot device will start.

  In your case it doesn't start t because you cannot use USB to start but the floppy USB drive.
