Tecra M5: External monitor flickers - grounded question?

Hello

I just bought a new Acer Full HD LCD Monitor (P244W) and have tried to connect on my Tecra M5 VGA port.
It works, but there is a noticeable and more annoying flicker. I tried with XP (SP3) and now Vista (SP1) and it happens for both. I have the latest BIOS and NVidia drivers. The actual laptop LCD screen still works fine, it's just the external screen that flickers.

To make sure that there is nothing wrong with the monitor, I plugged the ATI video card VGA port on my desktop pc and it displays fine without flickering.

After completing the web for people with similar problems, I narrowed down it to her being caused by my power adapter with a grounding problem as the flicker disappears as soon as I unplug the AC adapter and just run the battery. It seems the solutons common to this problem are:

(1) try some different VGA cables with better shielding against interference.
I tried this and it made no difference. I tried cables with or without the magnet ferrite/Starter thing at both ends of the cable and the flicker remained.

(2) try the different screen resolutions and refresh rate.
Tried to adjust some lower resolutions, but the twinkle remained (not to mention that I prefer to keep the native resolution of 1920 x 1080 for my monitor). The NVidia driver allows only 60 Hz refresh rate at 1920 x 1080, so I couldn't change that.

(3) make sure that the computer laptop AC adapter / CC and the monitor are connected to the same wall jack and are on the same power expansion card.
Tried, but it does not solve.

(4) run an extension cord to another circuit of power supply in my house and to the AC adapter and the monitor of this to see if its something wrong with the wall socket using im.
I tried connecting to a wall in my laundry, but does not resolve it.

(5) try using a different power expansion card and nothing else is connected on the power adapter and the monitor.
Tried, but it does not solve.

(6) get a pin 3 to 2-prong adapter, so the power adapter is connected to the Earth is no longer.
Most of the people on the web seem to say this corrects the problem, but I don't know how it is safe to leave this way long term. Especially, when stories of mobile phones capture the fire are multiplying.

(7) get an adapter to generic brand as they sometimes solve the problem better than the Toshiba power adapter grounding.
Yet once again, I would avoid this option rather than even the most generic brands cost dear.

(8) remove the battery and run its own from the AC adapter.
Tried, but it does not solve.

9) play with the settings of monitors.
Tried, but none of the settings fixed it.

So, what are my options?
Is there a known cause and the solution to this problem?
If my laptop is still under warranty, can I get a replacement AC adapter / CC or something to work around this problem?

Thank you

I have connected my tecra to a 2242 W LG via VGA. Now my external screen is swimming. It is somewhat strange because the external monitor already worked before with three different phones. My settings are 1680 * 1050 at 60 Hz.

    Hey,.

What do you mean with swim? Do you mean that your monitor flickers?

If so try another cable. I would recommend a high quality of Lindy for example cable.

Otherwise, check the forum. You will find similar topics and it could be related to the AC adapter:

    Hello

PS When I press Fn + F5, I have no options to choose from, unlike the other FN +... combinations. I don't know that it should be everything, but it is perhaps worth mentioning.

Also when I select only 'use a view' of the nVidia control panel and select my NEC monitor in the list, the monitor turns on and the light turns green, but the screen is still black. Like I can't accept changes the output switches to the computer screen after a few seconds.

    Hello

I think you should test with the preinstalled Toshiba operating system.
After that the laptop was recovered, connect the external monitor and use the FN + F5 in order to detect the external display.

  • Tecra A9 - external monitor black after closing lid

Greetings, I looked for answers to this but can't find so far.

    I have a Tecra A9.

My problem: I have an external display connected. Sometimes, when I get to work in the morning and open the lid of my laptop the monitor to the laptop and external monitor are black. I can restore the laptop using the shortcut key screen, but no matter what I can not do the external monitor to view anything until I restart. I tried turning power off and then on, by disconnecting and then reconnecting the data cable.

I leave my machine all the time, do not turn off during the night. I have the ability to shut down/hibernate/suspend on closing the lid off.
I have disabled all the management of the power supply for the monitor so that it turns off by windows.

I am running Vista 32 bit Ultimate Business and have a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. I checked Toshiba site for the latest version of the video driver Vista and have the latest installed. By checking on the Intel site, I learned that I have a custom Setup and you me advised to go to the provider's site for the latest version of the driver.

This problem occurs only occasionally and I failed to pin what make it even except what happens sometimes all night, maybe after I have use connection remote desktop to access the remote machine.

I think I might have a problem with the video card hardware, but of course I can't prove anything.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I test more?
    Thank you.

Try to update to other drivers, such as the package added Toshiba.

Updated the BIOS and try a new installation of Windows (run recovery) if possible.

  • Tecra A9 - external monitor shows scratches during the use of the computer laptop pluged.

    Hello

I heard at least Tecras A9 product witch scratches on the external display only 3 when the laptop is pluged. When you use the laptop with the battery, the monitor works fine. they tried to divide the monitor and power cables as far as possible, but still the same problem. When you use the laptop with a non-toshiba-AC adapter, the external monitor works fine.

    Hello

In my opinion, you should visit the nearest Toshiba authorized service provider. They can plug in your Tecra external monitors and test. If the result is the same, I am sure that you will get free AC adapter replacement.

Do not wait and discuss the days here. Contact with them and I hope they help you.

  • External monitor flickers and send the display to the laptop screen

I'm running Windows 7 on a ThinkPad. I have an external monitor from ViewSonic VX2433wm I connect and use scope display mode. This all worked fine for many months, and then a few months ago I started having a problem where, after several minutes, the ViewSonic and the computer screen will be time twinkle a few times and then just what is on the ViewSonic flies to the computer screen. I have updated the monitor display drivers and the laptop, but still have the problem. In addition, I discovered by chance yesterday that, even if the external monitor is turned off but connected to the laptop, the screen of the computer, still wobbles. It's driving me crazy!

    Hello

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1: change display settings also change color depth then test

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/getting-the-best-display-on-your-monitor

Step 2: Flickering of the Correct monitor (refresh rate)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/correct-monitor-flicker-refresh-rate

Try using the display quality problems to solve the problem. It ensures that your video card driver is compatible Windows 7, and checks to see if your color grading, video effects and display settings are correct.

  • External monitor flickering Macbook 2016

I have a Macbook 2016 and an Apple USB - C for Multi AV-HDMI adapter and a LogiLink USB - C for adpater DisplayPort.

I am using a Dell 3008WFP as an external display monitor (maximum resolution 2560 x 1600 @60 Hz) with my MacBook, but it doesn't seem to work well.

The monitor will often empty after a short time ('economy' mode) or only occasionally displays a picture and then turns off again. Using a LogiLink USB - C for Displayport is a bit more stable then the adapter Apple, but also often suffers the same problem.

On a small monitor Samsung 1920 x 1080, the Apple Multi AV adapter seems to work perfectly well, but on the Dell, it is not stable (via HDMI to a resolution of 1920 x 1200, as the Dell only supports supported resolutions higher on DVI or DisplayPort).

The map is updated latest firmware 2.33. Is there a problem with my MacBook (again)? Or is it a software problem? Is there a work around? Does anyone have a good experience with the MacBook to 2560x1600@60Hz on an external display?

    Hello Schendstok,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

    Hello!

For your first problem, I think that the AC/DC adapter is faulty or it s a motherboard problem.
This should be checked by a technician for laptop.
I put t know what OS you use, but you can try to use the driver from the Intel Web site.
There should be a more recent version available:

  • Tecra S11 - 11G - external monitor flickers when the Wifi is enabled

I have a similar problem on my brand new Tecra S11 - 11G. The only difference is that the problem is present only when I have my laptop plugged in and turned on WiFi radio.

If I turn the Wifi radio off and keep the laptop connected to the power source, the external screen keeps flickering. If I keep the WiFi radio and disconnect it from the power source blinking stops, too.

I reported this problem to Toshiba customer to the Portugal (where I bought it) and they gave me the ticket case #710008193. They said that they would not replace the defective unit and that I should leave for repair. It is absolutely amazing because the laptop is brand new. A customer still expects to have a well work product when needed out of the box without having to call the repair man. I think it is their obligation to replace the damaged aircraft. In addition, this laptop is part of a fleet of the company who buys only Toshiba laptops and we are talking about a Tecra and not a Satellite. We deserve more respect from Toshiba.

In a year or two, I have a new laptop (company policy) and it surely won't be a Toshiba.

    > They said they would not replace the defective unit and that I should leave for repair. It is absolutely amazing because the laptop is brand new

That is why amazing? A hardware malfunction can still happen and this happens not only in the world of the computer/laptop. Therefore, manufacturers provide a service to a client and failure may be fixed and covered by the warranty.

    > A customer still waiting to have a well work product when needed out of the box without having to call the repair man. I think it is their obligation to replace the damaged aircraft

Of course you are right, but in the reality of things happening.
My PS3 died after a short period of time. It has been fixed and replaced under warranty conditions, but this isn't a reason for me to say; I would not buy PS3 more because of this problem.
My BMW had some engine problems, that it was fixed under warranty and I would buy this car again once because this car is great and I think other builders are no better, and I think this would also happen to other manufacturers

That s my personal opinion in the opinion

  • Tecra A2 external monitor problems

Recently, I broke the screen on my A2 and until I can afford to get it fixed, want to use a monitor tft external that I have. I use fn and f5 to enable vga but the resolution is all wrong, and when I try to change the tft screen is disabled and it is up to the laptop broken screen I can't see.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    Thank you

    Hello

I put t know why you suggest that your resolution is fake because I checked the resolution display information and it seems that the max resolution is 1024 x 768.

In addition, FN + F5 key combination doesn't change the screen resolution but display devices. You can use this function to switch from an extended desktop, external display and two screens.
If you want to change the display resolution, so you should go to the display properties. Here, you can change the settings.

  • Tecra M5 - external monitor (TV) graphics in black and white

    Hello

    I have my M5 connected to a TV via a SCART (s - video-> adapter SCART).
Everything works very well (including sound), except that the image is the B & W.
Whatever I do, I can't get it color.

    When I S - video-> s-video color (in projector) is fine.

The clues as to what I could do to get a color picture on my TV?
    (M5 2Gb, Xp Sp2)

    TFAI

Just answer. We're not the assignment of the cable pins SCART. I had the same problem with my TV. There was a black and white photo and I don't know why.
I checked the contacts and moved the cable up and down and for some reason, the colour appeared. Then I tired 3 cables SCART different and to have worked.

    Maybe it helps.

  • Tecra A2: Question about DVI and external monitor

    Hello
I am trying to get a DVI Signal of the Tecra A2 using the Advanced Port Replicator III but without success. The A2 does support DVI anyway?
Another question: is it possible to set up the main display to the external monitor using "extended Desktop"?

    Thank you
    Ralph Menon

    Hello Ralph

Your unit doesn t support DVI port and you can't use it. As far as I know just the ports that you can find on the device, you can use in Port Replicator because the signal is just loop through.

The problem with the screen is that mobile has the main value and it cannot be changed (on my Tecra M1 nor). The windows will be implemented on an external but password box will always be displayed on the screen of the laptop.

  • Tecra M11-LaTeX runs slow on external monitor using Express Port Replicator

    Hi all

I am having trouble with my Tecra M11 with an external monitor, through an Express Port Replicator II.

It is very accurate, but I am running texlive 2010 on my laptop to write a thesis. Whenever I use my laptop screen feature is very good, and it works very fast, no lag when I compile my document. As soon as docking it into my docking station at work to use it on a big screen, whenever I use the same program, it slows down a lot, finally causing the crash program. Its frustrating to lose a lot of your thesis like this! When I connect the external monitor directly to the laptop, it works fine again.

Something goes wrong in the docking station. Anyone know how I can fix this? Im a little confused and ideas. Maybe I pilot or something im unaware of. My docking station is maybe defective?

    Thank you

    Jake

Port replicator port on which do you use? VGA or DVI?

It won't be easy to provide the answer to your question. It is not possible to test all the software available with docking station and research solutions.
    I would say: bad luck.

  • Tecra M3: black screen on startup, the vertical lines on the external monitor

    Hi all

I searched a lot on the Internet for a solution to this specific problem, I have, but did not find a thread
with exactly the same problem. I have a Toshiba Tecra M3 with Windows XP SP 3. Two weeks ago, I encountered problems with the commissioning. After a couple of times to restart it would work. Then it became worse... When I try to run I see no splash... the screen remains black. If I press the power button, I hear the fan and CD player but no screen. It is totally black. I know its working because I can go (blindly) in the installation program. Press end, and then press Y and enter. The computer will restart but still no screen.

I plugged it to an external monitor. Pressing Fn and F5 allows switching. The external monitor shows different
vertical lines in multiple colors. They change if I go to settings or you try to start windows.

Does anyone have a solution to these problems?

I have fear of solution can be given by the service only.
In my view, this question must be tested properly.

I can't say for sure, but to me that sounds like a technical question. Without testing you will know for sure what is the problem.
Here on the forum we can only speculate why this happen.

As you can see on notebooka? s LCD problem. On external it doesnâ? t properly work as well. It may be a faulty graphics card.
Try to contact the nearest authorized Toshiba service and speak with the technician.
