  Just bought a computer laptop tecra S1 hand 2nd off ebay. The hard drive didn't work more to have bought another and I'm trying to do a clean install of windows xp. I've done it before on many desktop computers, but never on a laptop. The installation takes a long time - so far, happened for 13 hours. It goes along, but I don't understand why it takes this time... Normally on a desktop computer it would take me an hour approximately. I do the same as you would for a clean installation on a new hard drive to a desktop computer. Any ideas why it takes so long?

  I have a 4GB HARD drive of a Tecra, that I no longer use. I remember the HARD drive password but whant / need to reset it so that I can use it as a backup of HARD drive on another machine. As far as I can see it is possible to reset the HARD drive password when you use the "hddpwd32.exe"program. The problem is that I do not have this program and I'm unable to find it.

  Sorry, but I'm sure that there is no way to reset the HARD drive password because it is saved on the HARD drive itself. In this article, there is description how to create the backup password disk.

  I have a Tecra 8200 running Windows 2000. I ran all the latest news from the BONE. I put the built in Wifi Lucent card and can communicate Ad Hoc with an another toshiba laptop with a wireless Belkin 54 g card. After a few minutes of inactivity, the Tecra 8200 can no longer access the remote computer. The only way to regain access is to the computer remote ping of the IP address of the 8200.I have had the same problem with several remote machines and several cards from Belkin, so I suspect now that the problem lies in the Tecra 8200.Can someone help?

  I put t know how old is your device, but maybe it's time to clean the unit. I use Tecra M1 for a long time, but it's a little bit louder now, and I assume that the unit must be opened and cleaned properly. I put t know how it is in your case, but when the cooling fan is running there are strange noises and I presume that the bearing of cooling fan is also defective.

  Before installing OS try again to roll back OS to an earlier time using System Restore tool. You may be lucky and it works again.

  Fixing these problems is not so easy because many tools designed Toshiba should run harmonic. You can try to remove it and install again some Toshiba tools like Toshiba Hotkey or Hotkey utility for display devices, but I put t believe it will work fine again.

  If possible, the best way is to install the recovery image. After that it all works well again.

  I am very happy to hear that you are very satisfied. I use Tecra laptops for a long time (because of my work), but I am also interested in the Qosmio series. Qosmio G20 is my favorite, but for a short period, I bought TV with HDMI output.

  I think that Toshiba will create new laptop Qosmio with this port. On this path I connect to my LCD TV and have the best possible image quality.

  AFAIK the Tecra S3 has been delivered with the battery 4700mAh standard.
  The Tecra S3 also supports other high capacity batteries. For example:

  PA3509U-1BRM 9-cell Li-ion 7050mAh
  PA3357U-3BRL 12Cell Li - ion 8800mAh

  These batteries are much stronger than the standard battery and should works more than 80 min.
  Additional if you think that there is something wrong with your battery life then I would recommend contacting the Toshiba service partner for the control of that party. But like I said above; These large capacity batteries are working longer than the standard battery.

  I changed any settings whatsover and since then, I tried to access the Power Saver icon in Control Panel, but when I click on it nothing happens. I then click on a few of the Control Panel Power Options and I get the message "...". "a Microsoft power options and use the Toshiba power Saver saver" which obviously I can't access either!

  Is there any reason why closing the lid of my laptop is no longer 'Stand by' mode, basically going in OFF format only, it became a major drawback and don't know where to turn to.

  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  Reading your post I guess windows on own power options and doesn t use Toshiba power saver power profiles.

  Generally, the issue should be resolved by switch again to the Toshiba power saver in the-> power options control panel! But your announcement about turning the power on, it is not possible! It s very strange?  :|

  In this case, I recommend to remove the Toshiba installation energy saver. This can be done in the Add & Remove programs.

  So finally, check out the following steps:
  Remove the energy saver, restart the laptop, reinstall the Toshiba Common modules, reboot the laptop and install again the energy saver.

  After this procedure, the splash screen should work! By the way; the hibernation mode is disabled by default. If you want to use the Hibernate mode, you will need to enable it first!
