Telephone security and microsoft calls?

I got a phone call from a man claiming to be Microsoft Windows technical support. He said that during a recent Windows Update, they rec'd a mass of my computer error warning signals, and they wanted to access my computer to resolve the situation. They asked me to push the Windows key on my keyboard and the R, and they would give me what they get. I told them I have this would confirm with Microsoft at all first and hung up. I dialed * 69 and found that they had no return number. I guess this isn't a usual practice of Microsoft?

Hello

Microsoft will never cold call users asking for personal information or gain access to your PC. As much as possible these calls should be reported to your local association of consumer protection agency.
In the United States, you can visit the Web site of the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) to report such issues:

A person supposed to be Microsoft called and said my Firewall Security Center was not working and had an ID # they said was my ID of computers that he read out to me and that I have no idea whether or not this is the ID.  They wanted me to be in front of my computer and asked me to do things and wouldn't continue until I started, I started to do what they asked which of course I did NOT! Is - is this legitimate?

Its a scam.  A well known and long-lasting.  Microsoft will never ask you for personal information (they already have them) and you never call cold.  Nor do they send messages of anti virus - and they do not have to connect to your machine.  NEVER allow anyone to connect remotely to your machine.

They are the partners who do this nor Microsoft does not only

  • Should I run F-secure and Microsoft security patches.

Should I download the Microsoft security patches.  I have F-secure antivirus software on my computer and they said not to come in any other capacity.  I understand the issue of conflict, but I'm not computer savvy enough to know if it's antivirus protection that conflicts with F-secure or repairs for Microsoft software.  Thanks for your help!

You should definitely download and install all the patches 'high priority' security offered by Windows Update or Microsoft Update.

You must install not "optional" updates and do not have to install updates of hardware (drivers).  If you think always that you need to update a driver, get it on the site of the manufacturer of your computer (especially for laptops) or of the author of the particular piece of hardware.

F-Secure advises (correctly IMO) that you don't have two active antivirus applications at the same time.  Security patches and one-off analyses (for example the monthly download of the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool) do not appear in this caveat.

  • I forgot my microsoft internet security and acceleration server password and username

I forgot my user name and a password for microsoft internet security and acceleration server

    Hi Tom,

Unfortunately, we are limited in what we can do to help with password lost or forgotten by Microsoft Policy, which applies to anyone who answered questions here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/189126.  But there are a few options to try:

You have another administrator account where you know the password that you can connect to the password changes to this account?

First of all, make sure that you do not have the CAPS LOCK SHIFT keys or Numlock enabled - this can change what you think, you type in something else (different case or a number or a letter) and the system see what you entered as incorrect.

Second, if you have another keyboard, you can use with the computer, try to do this. Maybe it's that one of the characters of your password is not working properly on the keyboard or the keyboard is inserting extra spaces or something else that makes you think that you enter won't be not what you're really in.

Unfortunately, if this does not work in this case the only option, we can suggest is to restore the system to factory conditions (or do a clean install). But too late for this time, next time create more than one administrator account in order to have a backup in case something like this happens again. A new installation will create a new administrator account. It allows to do some backups to avoid that from happening.

I'm sorry, that we cannot do more to help.

    Good luck and best wishes!

  • Problems installation security for Microsoft Office System and all of the programs in the Microsoft Office System (error Code 646)

I have a laptop running Windows 7 for x 64 bit. Whenever I try to install an update to security for Microsoft Office System2007 or any program that is, I get the error code 646. Everything else seems to be updated. It's really aggravating because when I will shut down my computer, I have to wait until the updates are installed before it stops, but then when I turn it back on and turn it off again, he always says I have to install the same updates to day when I finally stopped and I still have to wait until they are installed. It's a never-ending cycle. What the heck is wrong with Microsoft Office that makes it to where everyone seems to have the same problems? Don't you think that this problem must be corrected instead of simply suggest to download manually? Download manually takes too much time and honestly makes no sense. What is the point of having Windows Update if anyone seems to have manually make updates of Microsoft Office?

    Hi baby Deanna.

Download the updates manually would let us know what update is causing the problem and that's when we suggest the user to try because it could limit the question.

Mention updates with which you are having problems with.

    Step 1:
I see that many users have encountered this problem and they were able to install the updates successfully by disabling the User Account Control [UAC].

First disable user account control before installing updates.

Access the link for more information below how to turn user account control on or off:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-AU/Windows7/turn-user-account-control-on-or-off

Note: Enable UAC once the diagnosis is made.

    Step 2:
If you still experience the problem, run utility of Windows update that might help us diagnose the problem better.

Access the link for more information about the Windows Update troubleshooting tool below:

We look forward to hearing from you.

I bet that if you check the size of the file that has been downloaded it will be probably very small, indicating that it was not downloaded correctly.

I don't think you have another computer at hand, or a friend with a USB key which may be able to download and copy it for you?  Maybe burn it to a CD or something.

I could download it and save it to my desktop so I am confident that it is not a problem with the link itself or the file is available for download with success.

I know this isn't a very good suggestion, but the only other option would be to challenge support and see if a technician can take control of your machine and see if they can solve the problem of internet explore.

    Hello

There are a few things you can try:

    Change the resolution of the screen;

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-screen-resolution

If that fixed it, go to the website of your computer manufacturer > drivers download Section > then key in your computer model number > find your operating system > find two graphics / video or from the Chipset drivers and download and install.

Then try to change the screen resolution.

Or do a restore of the system before it is passed (which will also remove MSE!).
