  I have installed recently 3 new servers ESX v4 and an equallogic ps4000x SAN. These are connected by 2 powerconnect switches dell 4524. If you want to criticize my configuration, I added attachments, detailing the layout. I would be interested if someone comments on my installation.

  In any case, I'm at the point where I can start server virtualization. What I'm not sure is the best way of ESX/VM configuration to take advantage of Equallogic's snapshot technology. We are likely to buy symantec backupexec agent in the future, so it makes sense to set them up properly now.

  I can't seem to find documents on how to set up so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I will virtualize exchange and SQL servers among others.

  I anyone has suggestions or point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

  We use the last VE ASM, it is smooth, more schedule flexibility than the GUI EQL.  I've done some restorations to test virtual machines and data warehouses of data, on themselves, other stores etc., ASM has worked well.  The previous version looked a little awkward, but 2.0 allows you to selectively restore individual VMs, rather than an entire data store, so a great step forward in the old version.

  There is no such thing as "Windows 2010". It is the latest operating system Windows called 'Windows 7' and a suite of office programs, the latest being "Office 2010".

  I think you mean that Windows 7 is built in games. They are probably installed but turned off. Try this turn on:

  1. click on start Orb (lower-left) and then Control Panel.

  2. click on programs and features.

  3. on the left side of the screen, click on 'Windows turn features on or off".

  4. look for the entry called games & put a tick in the box next to it.

  5. click on OK.

  I hope that your Windows games should now appear.

  It's usually easy to fix, but if you removed all the dll and inf files, you can have a bunch of other problems that you have not yet discovered.

  If you mean when you try to use Add/Remove Windows components you see a message like this:

  Install was not able to load the master file.
  The application could not be initialized.

  This happens because this file is missing:

  c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf

  There is no copy backup of this file on your system and run the System File Checker will not replace the missing file (sorry, that Microsoft committed Support Engineer 'experts').

  You will need to get a real copy of your XP bootable installation CD or from a reliable source.

  When you see the files available for download, you can not see the file extension (.exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc.), but when download you them they will have the right extension.

  When you download the file (especially if you use Internet Explorer), when you get a chance to save the file, your browser is unable to save the file with an extension (by example, .exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc) then you will need to manually add the extension appropriate to the file when you download the file before you save it.

  You can download the file without the extension, and then rename the file to add the appropriate extension.  You do not want to use a file named sysoc when the name of the file should really be called sysoc.inf (if the downloaded file has no extension, you will need to change the name of the file to add the appropriate extension to make it work.

  You must then copy and paste the downloaded folder appropriate on your system.

  The best way is to clean install and start over.

  In addition, it is not legal to have both installed version that the license is for a single installation.

  If it is a dual boot with 32 bit and 64 bit installed on different partitions, there would not have been the conflicts you would have never started in one or the other.
