The amount of available disk space keeps fluctuating.

I returned from more than 20 GB of space available Tuesday to 2 MB Wednesday, up to 702 MB, up to 100 KB, then back to 200 MB. Is this a virus? I ran several scans of varioud virus and nothing was found, but I see no other reason for the significant loss of disk space. I am running XP with Norton as my antivirus.

Hi LostinCyberSpaceMD,

  1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
  2. What is the correct disk space showing in disk management?
  3. You have installed any new software, and programs on the computer?

Method 1
See the link below and try the steps mentioned, check if it helps.
How to make a computer faster: 6 ways to speed up your PC
http://www.Microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx

Method 2
If the previous step fails, then check if the problem persists in the safe mode and after return with the result.
A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

Method 3
If the problem does not persist in safe mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.
How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Reset the computer to start as usual
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
1. click on start and then run.
2. type msconfig, then click OK.
The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
3. click on the tab general, click Normal Startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.
4. When prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

Reading your question a little more in detail, I doubt if you are using the Win32 GetDiskFreeSpace API function (including my previous post is the solution) of the function GetDiskSpace from the Toolbox of the programmer.

With respect to the other, it works even with capacity greater than 2 GB disks, but you must use the appropriate formatting code to display the returned value. I updated my example to display the total of free space in the debug output window and added a comparison with the value of 3 GB using UInt64TypeCompareUInt box to tools programming interface.

After you perform a custom installation (I wanted to start with a clean install) of Win7, everything works.  I installed the Windows/Office updates and all my other program files.  When I run the transfer Assistant, it locates the 'old computer' transfer file and reads OK, showing users and the size of the 40.1 GB file transfer.  When I click the button forward, I get error: there is not enough available disk space to transfer your files and settings.  However, I have more than 280 GB free on my C: drive.

  • Vista Home Premium gobble up available disk space

Toshiba Equium a200 came with a 160 GB hard drive and a lack of space, so I replaced it with a 320 GB drive. Two low months down the line, I get a message C reader closer to its limit. Why is Vista Hungary both for hard disk space?

    Hello snakes47,

System Restore is one of the main culprits for eating fast disk space; However, by default, System Restore can only 12% of the available disk space to store its files. You can try to disable restoring the system and then reactivating to see what percentage of disk space, you can recover. See this link from my site: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/turn_off_system_restore.htm do not forget to reactivate new estore system after system restore points have been removed. Incidentally the System Restore creates a restore every day then, point we re-enabled, you can expect the space of hard disk to reduce again, but, as I have already said, only 12% of your disk space must be used. That is unless you have made changes to the amount of space allocated to system restore yourself in which case the amount you have allocated will be precedent.

Another source is memory dumps but, again, it will happen only if you get the blue screen errors or your system is to have several errors. A free version of CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner. Install it and then run it. This will clear your dump of memory and history files, temporary internet files, and a host of other files that are not needed. TIS can help recover more space for you.

  • Why Windows 7 displays an incorrect amount of free disk space / used on my DVD - RW drive?

Why Windows 7 displays an incorrect amount of free disk space / used on my DVD - RW drive?

Windows 7 can show the incorrect amount of free and used space in serious DVD - RW or DVD + RW media properties.  After burning data on the disk, Windows 7 could show that there are 0 bytes of used space and free space available on the disk capacity.  In reality, the amount of used and free space on the disk is reversed.

    Hello Sunsoaked,

Thank you for your message.  The best thing you can do at this stage is to begin to copy the data from your hard drive on your external hard drive.  You mentioned that you have a lot of photos and music.  These are two of the easiest to transfer items.  To do this, copy your complete record of the music and the image on the hard drive.  After you be sure that all your data has been copied, you can then delete the music and images of the hard drive which is full.  This should dissipate enough disk space for you to perform a defrag, etc.  Remember that when you delete these items, you will also have to empty the trash free up disk space.

  • Amount of disk space available on the disk hard keeps fluctuating.

I have a Compaq CQ2103WM-B desktop running Windows XP, hard disk Go 139.  I started to receive notices of high memory use, began to receive notices of disk space is low. I ran the cleaning disc several times, it has been very slow, constantly showing only 2 bars, sometimes for hours. He finally released the space and I have deleted several programs and files, emptied the trash. After a few minutes the amount of free space started going down again. For several days, I kept repeating this process, but keep decreases the amount of free space on the disk. Now, it fluctuates to the amount of free space on the disk every few minutes. I downloaded and ran CCleaner, it frees up space and again it has disappeared in a few minutes. He got so low that I can't watch videos, use system restore, download other software or software upgrades (like Norton), cannot download pictures from my camera or save files in programs such as Corel Draw. Right now is 3.97 MB free space, he went down in the KBs, sometimes it goes up, but it changes even if I do nothing. I scanned for viruses and malware, Norton managed to reach space, but it lasted only a few minutes. I don't know anything else to try. Would it be a software problem, the malware that Norton cannot detect, the hardware, or if my system has been hacked and someone uses free space on my computer? Any information would be appreciated.

In disk clean up, look for the button "other options" above I think it is, go to the

the bottom of the next page, look for "System Restore" cleaning, this eliminates all but the last

files on the C: drive, perhaps to burn them on a cd. In addition, in my c: drive-count, R.click, open,

Do scroll through folders & see what take place, install a slave drive can be

you are the answer. With this, you can move all data from the user to the slave instead of having

  • Question on the available disk space on the Satellite Z930

I'm new on this Yes, you can not shoot me down if this is a stupid question. I just bought a new ultrabook Z930. Storage space announced was 125 GB (drive C is only show 100 GB available). Only, I installed MS Office Standard 2007, Norton anti virus and printer drivers.

However, I now only 65GB of disk space, and I do not think that these applications take 35 GB. I removed the shadow at all.
Can someone give me some advice please?

Unfortunately we can not see info exact drive HARD, but maybe you saw something wrong.
Check please Disk management in the computer management options and you can see all the information base on the HARD disk and each partition of HARD drive.

I can imagine that this 35 GB is total data backed up on some partition that contains the operating system and all the stuff pre-installed.

  • After installing the updates, available disk space is less.

I recently started to use one of my old computers again.  It ran Windows XP SP2.  I noticed that the automatic updates were leaving so I have them turned on, and when you are prompted to install/download the new updates I did.  I ended up getting 150 + new updates and the next time I turned on my computer I had spent 5 GB free space at 665 MB of free space.  I checked to see if it was a different program, I installed, but none of those (found in Add/Remove programs of control panel) are larger than 500 MB.  What happened to my free space. and how can I get it back?

  • What is the effective available disk space in exadata

    Hello
    Greetings of the day,

    Is below correct understanding?

There are 7 items in a machine half rack and are all copies mirror of the other, if the effective storage space = space in a single cell.

Even if we have a normal redundancy in each cell, then effective the whole exadata storage space will be half of the disk space in the cell.

Is there a rule that all cells must have equal disk space?

From the perspective of the DSO.

Is there a rule like all the all fails it (2 or 3 depending on the level of redundancy) groups must be of equal size with a disk group?

  • Compacting files: I get the message, "not enough disk space.

Compaction stops, a message on "not enough disk space. I tried to delete the .msf file and also delete "inbox." Nothing works.

The kind of details that really your search does not exist. Once I looked for something similar and some of these topics, I'm still trying to learn more.

But I can offer some advice.

IMAP. Words like Subscribe riffle and quota, inherent to the IMAP protocol and are not terms that you will find are defined in Thunderbird, or he has documentation. They are defined terms in the IMAP protocol, see RFC 3501

Their isn't a such thing as a remote folder, but IMAP is synchronized. essentially local copies of the mail are a cache to speed up performance, although there are options for do not keep local copies. My experience is that it's slow. I'm assuming that IMAP, it is that what you call remote folders.

Size limits on technical terms are difficult. Historically, Thunderbird has a limit of 4 GB per file. This has been deleted way back to IMAP. local POP e-mail accounts and local folder still have the limit, or at least bug if you exceed the limit. Whenever the developers think they killed the bugs, another arises.

What files are compacted. Why all of them! Compaction has a dual purpose. In IMAP account it purge deleted mail from the server (a permanent deletion) locally the large amounts of wasted space are compacted to recover used space again by mail folders as being deleted. The physical elimination of the deleted mail only occurs during compact.

Remove folder is as simple as right clicking them and selecting Remove. Some special folders and the local folders account space simply cannot be deleted.

There is a manual here http://en.flossmanuals.net/Thunderbird/ but I do not think that it deals with the issues you have raised.

  • fluxuating of available disk space

I have the same problem as many others, disk space on drives hard my keeps fluxuating, 4gigs a minute, 2 the next. There have not been significant downloads to my computer. I ran the cleaning disc several times, and I have a (more recent) restore point. Ive also run virus scans, but nothing appears.

    Anyone have insight into this?
(I counted as the amount of all the files on the disks of space should take a player should have 17 of 34 free concerts, the other must have almost 11 of 34 free concerts)

WinSxS contains several versions of many files so that a program can use whatever version it was created, without worrying about other installed software on the system.

The removal of duplicates in this folder will have only one result. A complete reinstallation of the operating system and other programs.

Processor 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5

    Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Mac HD 160,11 GB free on 499.25

    Hello

My wife gave me his iMac and she is listed as a user Admin I created my own user. I want to create more disk space by removing his admin account.

    Apple gives these instructions:

OS X Mavericks: remove a user

If you are an administrator, you can remove users that you would no longer have access to your Mac.

When you delete a user, you can save the home folder of the user, which contains the files and the settings of the user, or delete the folder.

Open the preferences users and groups, and then click the lock icon to unlock it. If required, type your password, and then click on unlock.

Select the user you want to remove, and then click Remove under the list of users.

    Do one of the following:

To save the home folder of the user as a disc image, select "Save the home folder in a disk image." The disk image is saved in/Users/deleted users.

In order to leave such base file, select "do not change the folder." The folder remains in / Users /.

To delete the folder of your computer, select "Remove the folder." If you want to keep the programs that read the raw data to recover all files, select "delete the folder safely."

Click on the user to remove.

If you do not remove a personal folder user, you can restore the user and the content of the home folder.

My questions, that they do not explain the instructions.

    1. can I delete his account if I'm not the Admin? I can access the admin account.

    2. can I designate me as the new admin, and then delete his account?

    3. I have, indeed, will create more disk space by removing account here?

    4. If I register his record as a disk image, which will open disk space without delete me the entire account?

A technician Apple told me that I can not increase the memory of 8 GB to 16 GB on my vision.

    5. can't increase memory - is this true?

My computer works as fast as I want and I'm trying to reduce the load on the system.

    6. I go about it the right way or is there something more I can do?

    Thank you

Hi Tony, I asked your serial number erased. You never want to post in a public forum.

To answer your question, no, you can not delete the account if you are not admin. You try to delete the account to become the sole Director of the computer? If so, everything will always be linked to his Apple ID and will require a password to authenticate anything. If this is the case, you must wipe the drive and reinstall the OS using internet recovery.
