Guys you did remember the backup and restore of the Z1 App? that can be completely backup and restore applications and data. But in Z3, you can back up and restore something!

Nor on the Z1, the app would not save all the data and applications.

I have no idea what opened the backup files when you have double-clicked, or if you will not quote you took after doing this...  However, the official way to 'Browse' the content of the backup...

You can view the contents of your backup by opening the wizard to restore files.

    1. Open backup and restore by clicking on the button start , clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance and then click Backup and restore.

    2. Do one of the following:

      • To view your files, click Restore my files.

      • To display files all the, click on restore files for all users. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Do one of the following:

      • To browse the contents of the backup, click Browse for files or click Browse for folders.

When you browse folders, you will not be able to see the files in a folder. To view individual files, use her browse for files option.

With regard to the rate of success vs. failure rate of backup - it is difficult to measure.  Indeed most of the people backs up incorrectly.  It's really * not * enough to set a backup and forget about it.  If you test ever that your backups work/glance to see if you are backing up the good thing - it's just not wise.  Although most people expect that it is essential that the backups were working properly (not a test, a real emergency) to be discovered.  Most individuals who report failures, unfortunately, fall into this category "when my aircraft crashed and I went to my backups - it turns out _ backup _ does not and never told me...» ».

A question... If you manually create a ZIP file (not a backup) - can you still Explorer in it as a folder?

To test... Create a folder on your desktop.  Copy some files into it - of different types.  I say COPY and not MOVE on the goal here - because you can just blow this folder and all that results from this folder later if it was all fair copies of things.

Make a right click on this folder and choose "send to" and "compress (ZIP) file and give a name to the new 'folder '.  (It's really a file.)  On your desktop, you should have the original folder you created and copied some stuff in, and a new "folder" with the name you just gave.  If you open the 'new' folder - you should see the name of the folder that is still on the desktop and go to this folder, you should see the files.  You literally use Windows Vista to the 'discovery' inside a ZIP file as if it were a folder.

  • Why can I not see the files I back up by using the backup and restore of Vista

Can someone help me?  I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and implemented backup and restore feature Vista so that every Sunday he automatically backs up my computer to my external drive.  I was on the computer when he said it starts up and that upward was completed successfully.  I assummed everything was fine until today when I show my father my drive external and noticed that none of the backup of files were there... or at least I did not see them.  The only files on the disk were the ones I put manually on here from my old computer.  I then ran a manual upward using Vista and again it says backup successfully completed.  I then watched the external hard drive and once again no new files.  The strange thing is the back up and restore program shows all the dates he has saved and also allows me to restore files from the back to the top.  To do this, I deleted a file I didn't really need out of my hard drive and then is gone to restore program and found the file and restored.  Problem is that the program does not say where he makes the file from.  What is going on?  Are backup files of certain types of hidden file I don't see unless I use the backup and restore program under vista?  I am currently running Vista Home Premium on a 32 bit system and the external hard drive I have is a Western Digital My Book Essential Edition.

Windows backup is stored in a folder with the same name as your computer.  Open a command prompt and type echo %ComputerName% or startup, right-click on computer, properties.  You should see that % ComputerName % folder on your external drive, and in this context, a backup set. • Windows 7 backup works, but does not appear in the backup and restore control panel

I have Windows 7 Pro and have had a running backup on a network drive for a couple of years now.  So far it has worked well.

Recently, my wife asked me to postpone this off-peak hours and I went directly to the Task Scheduler and update annex it.  I also had to modify the scheduled task to wake up my laptop computer to perform the backup.
Now, after making these changes, I can see the event log that the backup started at time exact (01:00) he succeeded 30 minutes later.  I can also see on my network drive that it saved at the right time and the registry keys indicate the location of the network right.  However, when I go in the backup and restore control panel, he told me to "backup Windows has not been setup" (which previously he would show me the network location and the last backup time and the other at the request of autonomy.)
I know that backups are still viable can I do a restore to the correct network location and properly, it shows me that I have backups on this drive.  So, why the backup and restore screen is now showing me that no backup copy has been put up any ideas?
I'm a little worried that this change to the schedule has whacked a key somewhere that is using the backup and restore screen and finally the backups will fail and I don't notice unless I am constantly reviewing the event logs (which, for domestic use, isn't it convenient for me).

  • can not find the folder created by the backup and restore application

    Hi all

I have A316i phone and when I select "Backup and recovery" app and save contacts SIM it shows that he created the backup (and I can see it in the tab restore). But when I want to find that backup on card memory SD in my phone to copy the hard drive of my PC I can't seem to find.

How can I copy file backup of the phone to the PC (and how to find it)?

    Thank you.

Go to contacts > press the button (bottom left) settings > Import/Export.

You can also export contacts to your google account... That way, whenever you change your Android phone just sign in with your google account and all your contacts and data (birthday, address, photo..) you add to them will show up.

This email is from my laptop.

MS Internet Explorer on my PC gave me wrong yesterday. It would not start.  After several failed attempts, I followed the instructions to remove the update of IE 9. For this I made and re-installed. It did not work.  I then uninstalled IE 9 and IE 8, and re-installed IE 9. It still does not work.

I decided to backup per 24 hours.  Since them my PC goes through a cycle off, restart and informing me that it configures updates with State 0% who never changes, after about 3 minutes, it stops and starts the process of starting again.  When the backup process started, I learned that I can't cancel it.  As restarting the round has now worked for 15 hours, what can I do to cancel it?

Backup stores data in a compressed format on optical drives and blu - ray is an optical device device, I don't think you can use Windows built in backup and restore functionality.

You must use a backup solution 3rd party backup on the Blu - ray disc.

  • Document the backup and restoration

Is there some general best practices when it comes to document how your process to backup/restore your oracle databases?

I'm always afraid that if only an admin understand how backup/restore procedures works for critical business systems, if they left the organization that someone fill their shoes may be hard to understand the process and then if a restore is necessary may not able to complete the restoration.

But being not not a DBA myself, what kind of details should they document. What kind of details you document in your organizations?

Also, how many times do you check by database restorations?

Your fears are justified. One of the risk factors more important that an org has is when these key knowledge has not been documented, were reported badly or only exists in the mind of one or several persons.

Here is a presentation of the excellent white paper of the Oracle world that covers this exact topic

    Oracle Database Backup and restore
    Best practices and new features
    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/311394-132335.PDF

This presentation includes an overview of the backup/restore of the issues and possible solutions, as well as a case study.
You essentially have a similar paper for your own organization.

Your first steps should be to do what you did in this forum: gather ALL the information and documentation of your peers and the management of it on backup and restore procedures, if any, exist.

Implying that the step #1 is actually identify (i.e. to make a list of contacts) of the key people in your company with information either in written form or in their own head.

The most important resource is to start with your own expert.

Check out the latest collection of any type that have been made recently and collect information about the way they did. It is much more important to begin with better understand how your own org backup/restore, rather than learn best practices. Best practices do you much good in an emergency if your org does not follow them first.

It depends on the size and complexity of the system, but for the big orgs that I contracted with I usually recommend at least an annual process.

I also recommend you use any offline storage process include the creation of checksums of the backup files. This ensures that, in case the files are needed, they can be added again check to make sure that there has been no corruption. Too many times the files are archived just without any test and then when they needed it turns out that they are corrupt. If you have never made a backup copy of a CD or DVD and then later discovered it wouldn't work you know what I mean.

    In summary:

    1. start by talking to people keys to the knowledge
2 document available and stored in a central location
    3. start a mini-project to fill the gaps in the existing literature and knowledge
4 learn the best practices in the field (what you're asking here)
    5. begin to migrate your orgs practices based on best practices.

Good luck! We need more people like you who are interested in this topic.

  • MCBUILDER. EXE running rampant, competing with updates for CPU and possibly associated with an update failed chess SP2 and the backup and restore

Running Vista Home Premium SP1 and the system has been slow and freezing. MCbuilder appear to be using 50 to 100% of CPU, and it is a process that seems no way of killing. I disabled in Services, but again, it seems to start without any particular reason and hinders attempts to install programs or updates vista hogging resources. This can be associated with a problem that has arisen since June because I am not able to perform backups or set restore points (gives the error "0 x 81000101 the creation of a shadow copy has timed out"). I tried to install SP2 in the hope that it will not solve the problem, but the failure of installation and install KB947821 doesn't seem to work either. As the restoration of the system is defective, I would be grateful for the pointers to the resolve or completely remove this mcbuilder problem.

You have COMODO or AVG Antii-virus installed on your system?  It is known problems with these two programs and MCbuilder.exe.  I don't have Microsoft Resource Builder Cache as a service in the Services (so I can't activate or deactivate it)-you which version of Vista to help (bit, SP-number version)?  I have 32 bit Vista Business SP2. I see no way to turn it off in order to close it with the Task Manager when it is - with the exception, but who could become annoying if it happens frequently and with multiple instances.  I could find nothing useful in Knowledge Base Microsoft on it hogging resources although I've seen a few threads using Bing (which is where I came up with COMODO and AVG anti-virus conflicts).

You can be infected by malware (which may be the origin of the program to activate and run "without reason"). While in Test Mode safe mode (press F8 during startup and select mode safe mode with networking repeatedly) to run anti-malware programs. To resolve this problem (if it is a problem) download, install, and run the following two programs: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html.  You can also try a free trial of Pandasoft (www.pandasoft.com).  Before you download pandasoft, uninstall all anti-virus program you currently use (because the installation and execution of two simultaneously can cause conflicts, freezes and all sorts of problems).  Once you have uninstalled your current AV program, download, install, update and scan using Pandasoft.  I think you might be amazed at how much she notes that other software missed.  Once complete, uninstall pandasoft and re - install your current AV program (unless you decide to spend that I did when I tried about 4 years ago).  You can also try the new, free Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx (with the same caveat that only program AV one ALONE can be installed and running on your system at any time). Restart after finishing all the scans and see if the problem has been resolved.

Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started (which can be a problem if it began all the way back in June - you should have posted here then when this process would probably have worked).  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points (but I doubt that you will have a pretty far back and forth to the system restore may not be a viable option).  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

If the system restore does not work, do a startup repair, boot from the disk Installation of Windows Vista genuine (or one that you can borrow from someone) or a recovery disc.  Here is the procedure: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html.  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

If you do not have a floppy disk, you can make a bootable recovery disk by using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD.

If this does not work, try to start in safe mode (repeatedly hit F8 key so that the start and go in safe mode with networking).  Then we will check some of your system files:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well it will complete with no corruption, he couldn't fix it (if there is such corrouption post here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  I bet there is something involving the program or associated with this program.

If this does not work, you will need to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html as well as the upgrade from an earlier version of the Windows section of the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918884.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side.

I hope one of these procedures can solve your problem (probably the SFC command or controls anti-virus).  If this isn't the case, after return and we will try something else.  Return message anyway so we know how it turns out.

BTW, for update of the problems you are having with SP2, post on the Forum of Windows Update to: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads where the people who specialize in update issues will be happy to help you with your concerns and get SP2 running on your system (perhaps despite this particular problem).  As you say, it can even solve the problem - who knows.

    Good luck!

  • Advice on the backup and restore

I'm looking for some advice please. I tried in the past as well with Vista and my current system to back up my computer to an external drive. I've been quite successful, but today I decided to do things differently by making my own choices and decided to choose to save my 'C' drive instead of the default option. I was hoping to save space on my external hard drive, but the amount of space to be saved has been determined as 183 GB?

I am a bit confused because my computer itself has only about 140 GB of space which took 90 odd. It seems that the backup has been doubly? I really want to back up is my personal items, such as documents, which would save a lot of space, but that would have to be a sensible thing to do? I already save my photos separately and if the worst is over and my computer crashed, I'd be happy to reinstall Windows and restore the items I just mentioned.

If you have time would you care to explain, in simple terms, why the folder on my external hard drive is always marked as empty, after a backup, when you move the pointer over it? So when you go to delete, it's too big for the trash!

    Hello

I don't really know why your external drive shows empty.  However, I backup on D drive on my computer and the system image shows 0 bytes.  It's just how it works.

Looks like you have saved two images of the system instead of an incremental to your external drive.

You can reformat your external drive that would delete everything on it and start again.

If all you want is to keep your documents etc., sure you can just copy them across to your external drive.

There are also a great free backup program called Macrium Reflect that I use.

    http://www.Macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

There is a video on how to use it here: http://briteccomputers.co.uk/posts/category/windows-how-to-tutorials/

  • "Backup and restore" in Windows 7 saves nothing, except the data files?

I want to save my 'Favorites' of internet list, messages stored in Live mail and my address book in Live mail.  It seems that the "Backup and restore" function in Windows 7 saves only data files unless you choose the option of system image, and then it is not yet clear and seems to save much larger files that I could put on a DVD.

Can someone direct me to information on this topic or suggest a better method of simple backup.

By default, Windows 7 saving files in libraries and folders for all users.  That includes everything in your user folder: data applications, contacts, desktop, downloads, Favorites, music, photos, documents, etc..  Windows Live Mail stores messages in the application data folder, so they are automatically backed up.

The system image contains everything on your computer.

Both types of backup can create more data that a DVD can hold.  I recommend that you get an external drive for backups. Owner, Boulder computer Maven
