  I solved the problem with "hidden" files The answer is a little embarrassing. When I imported my files in W7 in XP they missed to 'sort by date/time. Because they were alphabetically in XP, the order of the new date set match alphabetically on the first import in W7. I didn't know they were are more sorted by name because the order of date / hour now equated the name order. I opened each file the file sort order has changed and it settles at the bottom of the list that is logical, newest at the bottom. It seemed to me that I was lost files because they fell in alphabetical order and moving toward the bottom of the list. Once I clicked on sort by file name everything came back and worked well since. Sorry, I should have posted this a long time ago.

  Thank you for sending the files. One of the files does not contain any character or paragraph Styles. In the other, I see the character styles named as paragraph styles. All indications from within the file are that they were created as character styles. The file format includes indications of the type of the style as well on everything that they are applied and in the list displayed in the palette. All of these styles are indicated by styles of characters in both places. The attributes that are in the styles are limited to what is allowed in a character style.

  In some places where the styles are applied, they are applied to the blocks of text or widget and replacements parts for paragraph-level attributes (i.e. h1 tag, space before and after, etc.). This leads me to suspect that they have can be created from blocks of text pointer tool selections (or other elements of text in widgets) and it was perhaps accidental that they have created using character Styles where paragraph Styles Panel rather than the Panel?

  Photoshop elements 11 will use only up to Camera Raw 7.4. You'll either need to upgrade Photoshop Elements or use the free DNG Converter provided by Adobe. The latest version of the DNG Converter is 9.1.

  Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

  Recovery methods:
   
  If you are running XP/SP3, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.
   
  To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.
   
  Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.
   
  In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.
   
  Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.
   
  Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.
   
  First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.
   
  If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.
   
  If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.
   
  If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

  A general warning to help avoid this in the future:
   
  Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.
   
  Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages.   Sorry for the confusion. Care for others - do not use 'MaskMe', unless you want ALL your passwords and information connection recorded on a questionable site 'confidence' and autofilled whenever you don't want it to be.

  Reach... Control Panel / folder Options / View tab.
  ... To check "Show the hidden files and folders" / apply / OK.

  Are you referring to (files, emails, contacts and other programs) shortcuts on the desktop?

  When updates are installed on the computer it says system files, this process of service not Microsoft that are running in the background can conflict with updates and tour damage the system settings.

  This problem can also occur if system files are corrupt.

  Try the following in order to recover the desktop icons.

  Even though the desktop icons disappear, the programs are still installed on computer you can launch them.

  Method 1:

  Ø, right click on the desktop

  O select view

  Ø, click show the desktop icons

  Method 2: Click the Start button > select programs > verify if all the programs installed on the computer display > try to start or right click on the program and Select create a shortcut

  Check the updates that triggered this question go by the date.

  I lost all contacts and emails.

  Have an iPhone 5s (new in December) using the latest operating system. Back to contacts with cloud, photos etc. have in desperation tried restore from the backup that I did in December but has not worked or the data is missing. I can't see the contents of the backup file, but it is one that I used when I changed service provider in December, it should be there.

  I guess the problem is somehow related to my problems to Hotmail because it seems too much a coinsidence have the same problem on both

  Recovering contacts from Hotmail is done by adding the account hotmail on iPhone.

  FYI iCloud do not back up the information that are already synchronized, and your hotmail contacts are synchronized with the iCloud contacts and Hotmail servers (if you had them would be synchronized with the iCloud server).

  To retrieve the contacts to iCloud you would go to icloud.com on the computer and go to settings after you open a session. In settings, you will find backups of your information is synchronized usually some contacts/calendars and other files, and you can choose the one you want to restore, but iCloud does not restore the hotmail contacts.

  My internet Favorites and shortcuts of desktop today disappeared after a system restore.  When I try to add my favorites of IE, I get a message that says: there are already files with the name (although I do not see them in my favorites file).  For example, if I try to add Google as a favorite, it says that there is a favorite with this name and asks if I want to overwrite.  If I do, it creates Google (2).  It seems that the Favorites are still there, but I can't see them.

  Maybe their attributes changed to hidden, a virus could do. I was after having been infected with Fake hard drive, my Quick Launch bar, Favorites and several desktop icons disappeared. A restore of the system restored my Quick Launch bar but the Favorites and several desktop icons remained missing. To check that your try these:

  1. set up your computer to display the hidden files and folders:
  Show hidden files

  2. navigate to C /: user //Favorites. Check the attributes of files and folders. I found here that attribute of the Favorites folder is not hidden but the subfolders and files are, so they don't show in the browser. Rather than change the attributes of the files one at a time, I changed the attribute to the favorite folder to hidden after what I have removed the hidden this file attribute and apply the changes to all subfolders and files.

  3. navigate to C /: user //Desktop, same as described in 2.

• brush edit gray circles have disappeared, but changes are still!

  A few days ago, I did a local brush change and when I let go the mouse a grey circle never appeared, but the edition that's happened.  I looked at some previous changes that I did on the images a bit back and again the gray circles have all disappeared.  The gray circles remain in the gradient tool and I can click on them and set again without problem.

  Please can someone help? They disappeared in Lightroom 3 and 3.2RC...  I noticed this problem before the RC has been installed, so I must be a problem of catalog.

  Note: all previous changes remain, but publishing circles have all gone, so I can't click to re - edit any previous brush cause me a major problem.

  Looks like you accidentally hit the 'H' key along the way... This will hide the Brush tool buttons... simply type the h once again, they should reappear...
