Hello

Did you the latest changes on the computer before this problem?

Method 1:

I suggest to start the computer in Mode safe mode with network and check if the problem occurs. If the problem does not occur in Mode safe mode with networking and then you try to perform the clean boot to find what startup item or service is causing the problem.

Step 1: To restart in Mode safe mode with networking enabled:
(a) reboot your computer.
(b) when you see the logo of the manufacturer of the computer, press on and hold the F8 key.
(c) on the screen Advanced Startup Options , use the arrow keys to Select Safe Mode with networkand press enter.
account d) log your computer with a user who has of administrator rights.

Reference: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

If the problem does not occur in safe mode with network you try to perform the clean boot.

Step 2: Perform the clean boot.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.

Method 2:

If the problem persists, try the procedure described and check if that helps.

Step 1: Rebuild the icon Cache

a. open the Folder Options to select (round), display the hidden files and folders.
b. open a Windows Explorer window.
c. go to C:\Users\(User Name) \AppData\Local
d. right-click on IconCache.db and click Remove.
e. click Yes to confirm the deletion.
NOTE: This removes the file to the trash. It is safe to empty the trash when you are done.
f. close the window.
g. empty the Recycle Bin.
h. restart the computer.
i. When you come back, you will notice the size of the file IconCache.db is reduced, and the update is now the current date.
NOTE: If for some reason any IconCache.db isn't there or the size has not changed much, then just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a few times in some cases.
j. the icon cache has been rebuilt.
k. open Folder Options for select (round) show not the hidden files and folders.
Step 2: Reset the icon Cache
a. right click on an empty area of the Office and click on Personalize.
b. click the link display properties.
c. under colors, select medium (16 bit) and click apply.
NOTE: If you already have a medium (16 bit) selected, then select the highest (32-bit) instead. Sometimes, you will have to do a reboot first, then go to step 4. Try both ways.
d. click on Yes to confirm the new setting.

e. now, Select the highest (32 bit) and click OK.
NOTE: If you already have the highest (32 bit) selected, then select medium (16 bit).
f. click on Yes to confirm the new setting.

  • Some icons on the start menu are missing after a remote desktop session in Windows 7

I use Win7 Pro SP1 and whenever I come back to my office after finishing a session desktop connection to my computer remotely, I noticed several of the icons in the all programs from the Start Menu section changed to default page icons. If I try to open any programs that are pinned to the start itself, it will indicate that the program cannot be found. Notepad and Calculator in particular to keep more victims of this problem.

    Hello

This could be due to a virus or infection of malware on the computer or problems with the Database Cache icon on the computer. I wish I had this information to better understand:

    (1) have you run an analysis using software registry cleaner on your computer recently?

    (2) what antivirus application do you use on your computer?

Refer to these methods in the order in which they are presented, and check the status of the issue.

    Method 1:

Run the difficulty of following article and see if it helps:

Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/system_maintenance_for_windows/

    Method 2:

These types of problems occur sometimes due to the infection by the virus in the computer. You can scan your computer from a Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Method 3:

If the problem persists, then check the suggestions by Gaurav Prakash in the following thread and check if that helps. Skip the steps you have done already.

  • Why the icons disappear from the Start Menu?

The Start Menu has two regions: a region for applications whose icons are pinned to the Start Menu and two region, for applications whose icons are not pinnend to the start menu... the positions of icons these vary, depending on the frequency of use.

Why in the region shortcut icons do not disappear into the Start Menu?
They are not being "jostled" more low ranking... they stop just appear.
Open an application can hand its icon at two area of the Start Menu,
but then after a few days (maybe earlier), for example, the icon is missing.

    Thank you
    DaleB

You already have the answer yourself.

"The two region" can only hold x number of icons... Let's say 7.
If you later open a 8th program, among the list of 7 will be "hit.
I opened Windows DVD Maker. Later, I opened MS Excel. Windows DVD is moved from the list.

  • Shortcuts in the desktop or the Start Menu has not created

    Hello

We use vWorkspace 7.2. and AppPortal for access applications on 2003 TS in transparent window mode. All published applications are accessible from the thick client or VDI computers. When I assign an application to vWorkspace folder, the icon appears correctly in AppPortal. Problem starts when I attribute the same request to "Remote Desktop files", in this case no entries are created, nor to the desktop or the Start Menu or any other option. When I change AppPortal to work in integrated desktop mode all entries are properly created.

There are already a ticket about this Quest (CaseID:887952) support. After many hours of phone calls from the Technical Department explained what I need is available only when all of the TS Office are published. I find it hard to believe that I did the same thing easily with other 3rd party broker connection software. What is your experience, do you have "Remote Desktop Folder" work without providing complete desktop TS?

    Best regards

    Adrian Tonina

    Adrian,

AppPortal is designed to run on your client computer of the end user and is able to show the shortcuts in the user interface or on the desktop of the client operating in desktop integrate mode (DI).  When running in mode of DI, only applications that are designated for the integration of office will have shortcuts created on the client for desktop/menu start.  You can specify in the properties of a managed application, Desktop Integration step.  Note that only applications that are assigned to the Connector vWorkspace records will be created through AppPortal.

Applications that are assigned to the Standard and customized remote office records are created through our configuration of the Shell (pnshell) module, and their shortcuts are created on the remote (TS or VDI) desktop computers.  If configured properly, you will see them on the entire desktop of the remote session.

  • By clicking on an elements of the taskbar (or on the Start Menu) ask me each time if I really want to open this file. How to stop this?

When I click on the item to taskbar Windows 7 to Firefox (or on the Start Menu, too), he asks me each time if I really want to open this file:

    ... \ick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Mozilla Firefox.lnk

I say YES and it opens... until next time, when he asks again.

But a double click on the shortcut of Firefox on my desktop doesn't only!

I tried unpin and re-pinnning program without success.

I tried to create the pinning of the original exe or shortcut on the desktop or the StartMenu option.

All have them!  And it has worked perfectly well for years, but I had to reinstall FF today and now it goes.

How can I stop this annoying feature?

I found a column that actually addressed this and he said to go to the CMD prompt and enter:

    ICACLS '%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start start\program' /Setintegritylevel (OI) (CI) Medium

    Tried without success.

Another site told me to uncheck the box that says "ask before opening" but there is no such box on the pop-up.

Maybe because it's a .lnk instead of a .exe?  I do not know.

Please do not suggest that I use IE or Chrome instead.  I use IE much... but there are some things that Firefox is just the right solution for.

    Thank you!

    Hi MiloInSanDiego

The response of the creation of a new user account was because after the steps mentioned by Babu, you said in the post on Jan 3 that you get this message 'Do you want to allow the following program to make changes on this computer' like this could be due to the virus.

By creating a new user account, if there is a corruption of the profile by a virus, it will be there in the new profile. This is the reason for the creation of a new user profile.

If you are facing problems with Firefox, I suggest you to post the question in this forum for better support.
