  • Is it possible to reset the date of the last virus and update the spyware definitions in XP?

I have xpsp3.  I was looking at my calendar to find out what day of the week, an event that happens in November, and unfortunately I forgot to go back to the date of the day before I have updated the definitions of viruses and spyware on MSE.  Now, MSE think my latest definitions of viruses and spyware are obsolete, because they were supposed to be updated three months from now.  So my question is: is it possible to reset the date of the last virus and update the spyware definitions in XP?

Correct the date on your computer. Remove the antivirus/malware product and reinstall.

    -OR-

To restore before the update, use the system restore. Make sure the date is correct. Update.

  • I got the Conficker virus and now I can't get Windows Update to work

I got the Conficker Virus/worm infected my system, but have now got rid of him (I think).

I noticed yesterday that Windows Update has just stopped working, it has a red symbol X and said 'windows update cannot currently check updates because the service is not running'. Then, I figured that it could be a virus and tried to download AVG anti-virus, but the virus stopped me to access a website or a program to do with protection against viruses (including all Microsoft sites). Finally, I used a separate laptop and negative to download AVG and some other anti-virus/malware programs and down them mode without failure. I then ran Windows malware removal tool. That seems to have gotten rid of the virus (which has been identified as Conficker), I can now go to any Web site, so it seems that the virus is gone or disabled.

However I can not even access Windows Update. My guess is the virus disabled some component of it, but how now operate again? Is it possible to re-enable it manually? Or y at - it something that I can download to fix?

  • Vista infected with the Vundo Virus, and you're screwed. Can anyone help?

Recently, my computer has been infected with the Vundo Virus, so I tried to remove it. Somehow, everything I tried just did worse and nothing does not. Finally, he said that my computer has an unauthorized change. I clicked on the link and tried to validate, and the BSOD popped up. Then when I loaded my computer again, I tried again and it says that it cannot validate. I had to go to safe mode with network to get on this page, and when I try to use the OneCare scanner, the page would not be responsible. I need help serious to this problem as soon as POSSIBLE.

PS My Windows Vista Home Basic is true because it is an OS disc that came with my Gateway ML3109.

    Please answer, Logan

At this time the the most intelligent thing to do is to backup your data on an external support (such as an external hard drive) and restore your computer as long as the plant. The machine is still infected and all that you have done to try to solve this made things only worse. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • After fighting a multitude of Trojans, viruses and spyware, I can't connect to Windows Update and don't worry I'm still infected!

So I'm trying to save my dad's computer (and its files + settings) after that he was struck with a variety of bad guys: Alureon, FakeSysDef, Blacole, Gen-Nullo, difficulty system, etc..

Has finally got the office programs and files back after the entire MBAM, TDSSKiller, SuperAntiSpyware, etc., of jazz, but STILL not get things all the way back to the normal and good scans with MSSE, MBAM and MS Security Scanner are clean, I am afraid that the computer is always infested with something or the other...  (mainly due to my inability to use / access Windows Update: receive the 0x800A0046 error code AND get it published (feat of Java Blacole) out of a Flash drive, I used my system between the two machines... stupid, I know)

so, here are the details: Dell XPS: Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3: seems to have been hit in early November that there is no fixes/updates after 11/14 or more.

I told him years not to run multiple antivirus + spyware programs at the same time, but he ignored me consistently.  I have since completely uninstalled Norton (using their removal tool on a newly created user account, as I couldn't make it work on sound - both are admin ETCA) and Webroot and installed MSSE.  At one point he swindled with system security 2011 and from there installed PC Fix, difficulty system and any other fake antivirus, it can click.  When the first infestation (before everything went to sh * t) I was takled him thanks to a restoration system and scan... About a week later, he ignored previous orders on not clicking or not to install anything without calling me everything first and got the rest of them (see list above).

This time, we could not access any program, web page, without failure, System Restore, its own user account, etc etc.  Somehow (with MBAM, TDSSKiller, etc) I entered the computer, installed process explorer, started the happy hunting and following 'view' & restore icons/programs/etc.  And yet we always face the dilemma of Windows Update, the loss of its sites Favorites/tabs, loss of / NO content in administrative tools (both through the control panel and Start Menu: file is empty when it is open) and inability to use the system restore.

I found this thread ( http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_update/windows-update-not-working-ie8xphome-error/db7956c9-d77c-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5 ) in which the fellow was in THE SAME EXACT POSITION I'm NOW - for a tee - who said: "those who would be interested - this problem has been resolved by an engineer from climbing on the Team Support of Windows XP.  It was "Removing Group Policy" through a registry fix, "Reloading safety model" via several downloads and finally run a .bat file also downloaded. "So I guess I need help do the same.

Can someone help me or offer any other advice or assistance to get this sorted out?  Thank you in advance for anything you can do!

    See you soon,.

    Katherine

    Hi Mike,.

Yes, I tried all these steps without success...

    Buuuuut...

I ended up calling the Microsoft's Technet support, which helped me to identify two registry entries that the horde of virus/trojan/rootkit had created changed, that I had not already taken AND finished the download of some clever little program (difficulty WU Utility I think?) which allowed me to reset + reregister the BITs, cryptographic, & System Restore services...  That did the trick (although, as far as I know; dear ol ' pop reported no problems at the moment ;-))

Thank you Jeebus! Laughing out loud

    See you soon,.

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running
resident who can cause as many questions as the malware and may be more difficult to detect as the
    cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy
to detect malicious software often comes with a much harder to detect and remove the payload. Then
its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one
extreme overkill point and then run the cleaning only when you are sure that the system is clean.

    Hello

Just in case there are persistent pieces of malware here is the method of complete elimination.
.exe question difficulty in the next message.

Try Mode safe mode with networking - repeatedly, press F8 that you start.

The best two methods allow scanners to run and/or AV.exe out of the way or removing.

    1.
CTRL SHIFT ESC - task manager OR right click on the taskbar - task manager

Process tab - complete the process on AV. EXE and continue with the uninstall Guide.

If necessary use start - computer or Windows Explorer to navigate to

C:\Program Malwarebytes Anti - Malware\mbam.exe or where it is installed - if
necessary right click on the shortcut of Malwarebytes - Properties - tab - target line to see where it
    is installed.

Right-click on it and rename it to ZZMbam.COM (or something different than now) and
Double-click it, and then run it like this. You can rename it back later. Do the same with
other programs according to the needs. Use this method to others as needed - NOT assume all
a program deletes all or that it is no other malicious software.

    ---------------------------------------------------

    2.
Another method is to use them:

Use Process Explorer to "Suspend" the process will not stop

Then use AutoRuns to delete the malicious program startup items.

Now use UnLocker to delete the files in the malware.

  • My problem is a misuse of the proxy settings and I can't even remove it by editing the file pref.js. She just keeps restore use manual proxy settings.

I had the trojan cycbot and removed. However my browser will not connect to the Internet, unless I don't manually select no proxy connection settings. then restart firefox, settings changed to a manual proxy.

I think what you can do here is to go to Subject: config then in the filter at the top, enter each of these entries at a time, then right click on them and choose reset. This should restore their default values.

So network.proxy.http_port should come back to '0' when you do this instead of its current value of 64586.

  • How to remove a Trojan virus

I opened Safari and immediately he began by a screen of loading with a pop-up window and a voice saying: "please contact this number" I forced Safari leave immediately and have an anti virus scan and it came with 7 virus - namely VBA:Downloader - AOV, others were the same, but different three-letter.  Anyone know how to remove the Trojan virus. The work computer use AVAST for mac as anti virus, and I do not know how to remove them.

ClamXav lets you remove them, or if you know where are the files that contain them, remove them in the Finder.

  • Is there a free application to detect the virus and Trojans on my iMac?

I think I have an evil entity of some sort on my computer.  It is not malware.  Is there a free app to download to search for viruses and Trojan horses to an iMac, OSX 10.9.5?

    Thanks for the recommendations.

You don't need anti-virus software and must not install, free or not. They are unnecessary and a waste of your money. If you have advertising software problems:

You can try to download Microsoft Security Essentials from the link below for a CD or a USB key and try to run it on the infected PC and check out them.
