He is so little known about your configuration - because the forums MS Answers do not ask for information, when a new question is asked.

If you run some kind of RAID configuration, you might do better if you describe your RAID configuration and after the actual event that you see in the event log (is it event ID 55?).  Then maybe you will get some ideas of the Microsoft Support engineer who might actually work.

You see just this event in the paper at random times or is it when you try to run a specific operation and if yes, what operation triggers the event?  Here is an article of MS to help get you started, but if you use Google to search for the error message, you can find more ideas:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/246026

If sfc/scannow solves your problems, I'll send you (or your charitable organization preferred) US $100.

Here's how to publish events to the event to display the log files:

If you double-click on an event, it will open a window of properties with more information.  On the right are black up and down arrow keys to scroll through the open events. The third button that looks like two overlapping pages is used to copy the details of the event in your Windows Clipboard.

When you find an interesting event that occurred at the time of your question, click on the third button at the top and arrows to copy the details and then you can paste the details (right click, paste or CTRL-V) the text in detail here for analysis.  Remove all personal information from your information after you paste If you are forced to do so.

If you paste an event, it will look something like this annoying system startup event:

Event type: Information
Event source: Service Control Manager
Event category: no
Event ID: 7035
Date: 14/07/2010
Time: 17:54:18
User: Jose
Computer: computer

Description:
The Remote Access Connection Manager service was sent successfully a starting control.

To get a fresh start on any log of the event viewer, you can choose to clear the log (the log backup is available), and then reproduce your problem, then just look at the events around your show and troubleshoot events that are happening when you have your question.

You can search for events on the World Wide Web and get ideas.  It's where people events they see and then to the top of their questions, ideas and solutions:

http://www.EventID.NET/

If you find your event in the discussion, the first idea or discussion does not necessarily mean it is the "answer" to your situation, so read through all the ideas to find the one that sounds more like your situation.

From July 25, I started to see

The file system on the disk structure is corrupted and unusable. Please run chkdsk on the volume of OS utility.

in the system (Source Ntfs, event ID 55) event log.

I ran a CHKDSK /R on the disk and it reported no problem with the drive.

Except for the scary messages in the system event log, I see no problem, but I also don't see these errors on the other disk in the machine.

[I forgot to mention that the drive passes diagnostics pre-boot]

    What happens here?

I see nothing in the article in PC Magazine directly addressed the problem. You were talking about the complexity and the possibilities of seriously screw things with True global Image?

In addition, the link to the Microsoft solution irritates me to 'we're sorry, the requested page is not found.

However, I think I found the solution, and it is quite related software.

After scouring the logs of system events and application, I realized that the error I've been see is still bracketed by the subsystem VSS starts and stops and was almost always related to a backup operation or a virus scan.

Some research (Google search, in fact) have allowed me to suspect that successful shadows of the disc were somewhat corrupt, so I simply deleted them (vssadmin delete shadows / for = c: / all). Since then, there has been no error reported, new instant shade have been created, and everything else works OK.

  • \System Volume Information\ Sand.CFD corrupted file is corrupt and unreadeable please run Chkdsk utility

Run the Chkdsk utility, but the error message is displayed the next time I start up.  How can I fix it?  I contacted Norton and they said it was a Windows problem.

You probably had a good reason to get in touch with Norton, especially if the name of the file in question is in fact lightningsand.cfd.

From what I can tell, it's a file placed in the directory SVI by some applications of 'security' Norton and (b) may be an encrypted file "Cryptoforge" (which sounds like something Symantec would do).

I suggest that you completely uninstall your applications Norton following the directions here: http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN&ln=en_US if you really want to reinstall Norton applications, make sure you have both your multimedia installation and product key (s).

  • Error 0 x 80070571: the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable

I recently had an error message saying "error 0 x 80070571: the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable," in reference to C:. I tried chkdsk oh so many times. No change.

Recently, I was able to access the C: files sporadically. Occasionally, sometimes not. However, I can access my files in safe mode.

When I start in normal mode, the system is acting funny. I will try to describe. It starts very well, go anyway for the office and everything. Sometimes, I am able to use the laptop for a few minutes until everything freezes but the cursor; nothing else responds, even not ctrl + alt + delete. Other times, I'm still not that chance. You know how pointing the cursor on an icon temporarily highlights the icon? Highlight the thing is sometimes just to block the system. Once locked, all I can do is hold down the power button.

I tried the system restore, but it never once helped me with the cause of the system error.

I also deleted some programs out of the startup list. Not sure if this would have an effect.
I am running Vista Home on a HP Pavilion dv5.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I tried all three methods.

Methods 1 and 2 have helped for a while, but not long. Method 3 found nothing.

The only solution I can think of is to backup my personal files, then do a system format. Before you do a format, is there anything else that you could recommend?

What you need to do before anything else, it's everything and nothing important to you and to the stability of the machine (your ability to rebuild from scratch) backup because chances are - you will be rebuilding this computer from scratch and everything on this hard drive will be erased.

    Hi helzf,

You can try to run a Checkdisk on drive E to fix disk errors that can cause this problem. You can make a backup of the data on this drive and try to run checkdisk.

    Check out the link:

Check your hard drive for errors

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Note: When you run the disk check, there are chances of losing data if you can take a backup before starting the checkdisk.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • What is this average, Disk Defragmenter has detected that chkdsk command is schduled to run on the volume: (C). Please run chkdsk /f.

Been trying to run the defrag on my C drive and this message keeps coming up.

When you try to defragment a volume of that Disk Defragmenter reports:

Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (c :))

    Please run Chkdsk /f.

This means that the volume that you want to defragment was marked 'dirty' XP.  This is not necessarily all of the data has been lost on the volume, it simply means that XP thinks that the volume should be checked to find errors because of something that happened before.

You won't be able to defragment the volume until the dirty bit has been removed.

A volume can be marked as dirty, if the system underwent a power interruption (power failure, pulling plug, removing the battery, button / stop), abandoned restart or an abnormal termination.  One of these events?

When XP starts, it automatically checks the bit of impurity on each volume.  You can also tell XP to ignore the bit of impurity on any volume, but this probably isn't a good idea in case there is a real problem that needs to be fixed.  If you have a hard drive where the dirty bit will not disappear, you can tell XP not to check.

If the starting XP detects that the volume is dirty, it will be automatically run the check disk with error correction (chkdsk/r) and try to fix the problems detected.

If the chkdsk command succeeds, it clears the dirty bit, and then you can defragment the volume.

You can check the status of your bit of impurity from a command prompt window.

To do this, click Start, run and enter in the box:

    cmd

Click OK to open a command prompt window.

For example, to query the bit of impurity on drive C, type:

    fsutil dirty query C:

    The sample output:
    Volume c is dirty
    Volume C: is dirty

Is the volume of your sale or it is not dirty?

Since XP of course already thinking that the volume is dirty, XP will automatically run chkdsk when it restarts to try to clear the dirty bit, in order to plan another running chkdsk can not help you much.  Sometimes the auto chkdsk on a reboot will be not only clear things to the top, but you can try it.

I would like to start in the XP Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r from there you can actually watch and see what happens and decide what to do about this.  When own running chkdsk/r, it clears the dirty bit unless your HARD drive is somewhat distressed.

  • error defragmenting the Disk Defragmenter has detected Chkdsk/f. is supposed to run on this volume, please run chkdsk

I'm trying to defrag and I get a message saying ' Disk Defragmenter has detected /f. Chkdsk is supposed to run on this volume, please run Chkdsk.»  How am I suppose to do?

Use my computer to access the list of HDs. right mouse click on the drive in the list. Choose Properties error checking check now.

    Run the check.

If the drive that contains Windows, the system will restart and check the disc. After rebooting the system, you can run the Defragmenter.

My wife has all of its graduates work on the computer, I backed up since then, but I try to avoid doing a restore of the entire system.  Can you help me?

    I am running Microsoft XP.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your XP system.  For XP support please visit the link below
    http://www.Microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?DG=Microsoft.public.WindowsXP.General

Also, try to start the computer in Mode safe.
When the computer is switched on 1, start pressing F8 until you get a menu of Windows startup, choose Safe Mode.

Sounds like something important happened (corruption).  If you have important data there (for example, your wives, diploma work), I would strongly suggest taking the computer to a qualified technician so that they can recover data out of there before the drive goes down or the o/s is too damaged.

    Good luck

    Hi IainFisher,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Communities. Of the description of problem I can understand that you are not able to run disk defragment. Provide the following information to understand the issue:

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         Reason why you want to run disk defragment?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Follow the steps in the article.

How to defragment your disk Volumes in Windows XP

Method 2: Follow the steps in the article to run the check disk for errors.

How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

Note: If bad sectors are found in the hard drive, then it could try to fix this particular sector. If you have any data on that, it can get lost.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you.
